Rose just tilted her head at Amy. Then shook it. "No. He pities Jack. Because Jack..." Rose sucked in a breath, and sucked on a fingertip. First time telling someone outside of the Doctor what happened. She wasn't sure if Jack wanted it known or not, and if Amy was going to pity Jack she might have to shake her. "I... turned him into a fixed point?" she winced. "No, but--" she narrowed her eyes, crossing them, "He said even before that, if he wasn't jealous. So I mean Jack had some missing memories, we dealt with, and he's a total tease to most people. So that's the part I don't get." Another head tilt, "Because --" Rose closed her eyes and made another annoyed growl. "Well, in the past, if the Doctor really thought Jack had no chance with me or him--" She shook her head.
"Like I said, I don't get it. But I don't think the Doctor doesn't want to be -- Well no, I know he wants to be--" she waggled her fingers, "Enigmatic and mysterious," she laughed in spite of herself. "And I'm not tryin' ta like..." an eyeroll, "Ferret out his secrets." Hell no. His darkness was enough to almost scare even Rose off sometimes. And that was even without the Time War. "I don't understand what he wants. Except when he wants to die, and then... I don't understand that." She frowned. Hard. "I think it's like... ebb and flow of tides, yeah? He pushes people away, so he doesn't have to see them hurt, but then he's lonely, so he comes back to them," she chewed her bottom lip.
"So I guess it's less that I don't understand him, as much as it frustrates me, because he claims he's not using me to hurt himself..." She pushed her hair back with a hand. "Before I met you, I would never have said the Doctor lies. Or if he did, not to me. Now?" She threw her hands up in exasperation. "I would say I can't see what he wants, but nah, I know. He's just a bundle of contradictions. He doesn't want to want it, or he doesn't want to allow himself to stop bein' miserable, or he doesn't want to be happy, he wants to be understood but he doesn't want to stop being enigmatic." Rose facepalmed hard. "Maybe all men are like that, not just him for bein' alien."
