[To say that Scott had a rude awakening was to put it lightly. When the window of his temporary residence broke, he immediately expected some sort of attack and his hand flew to his visor. It turned out it was only a newspaper and Scott had to remind himself that no one had reason to hate mutants in this city. As far as he knew, that's it. It wasn't as if people needed a logical reason.

But that was a worry for another day. He was stuck with a broken window and glass all over the floor. After cleaning that, he decided it was his responsibility to fix it. He can now be found still in his room, the door open for the extra light it provided, trying to add the new window frame.]

After spending his time over the last couple of his days trying to get his bearings, Shinjiro was determined to get things done today. He needed to figure out how much this money was actually worth. He probably should find some food for his tiny apartment. But, most importantly, he needed to figure out how the hell he was going to find more of his medication. Were there even any Shadows here?

Stomping out of the entry door, looking irritated, he stopped short at the sight of the smashed window. And the person repairing it.

Without thinking, he asked, "Spandex guy?"

[It takes Scott a few seconds to turn and stare at Shinjiro. He wasn't expected anybody else in this floor, much less someone who knew him and addressed him...well, like that.

He's still wearing the x-men uniform, which only makes Shinjiro's comment all the more embarrassing.]

...it's not spandex.

[mortal_son]

Right. Whatever.

[ Welp. Now Shinjiro just feels bad. But, seriously, that outfit. Why on earth was the guy still wearing it? How was he not freezing his ...

... that was completely not the point. The point was, you done messed up, now fix it. Shinjiro ducked his head and looked to the side. ]

What happened?

[You are lucky that Scott's a formal guy and wear semi-serious outfit with dark colors. There are some real ridiculous costumes out there. Some have mask and helmets too, hmph!

He looks at the half fixed window and then points to the newspaper on his bed.]

The newspaper boy vs glass. The window never stood a chance. Frankly I'm surprised he could throw it this high. Apparently, it's a normal occurrence here.

[ He purses his lips, and examines the damage. The building seemed nice enough, considering it was giving them a free place to stay. So the frames were really sturdy, and the glass had been nice and thick. ]

Huh. Surprised a kid could break it at all. Quite an arm.

[ Moves his head at an angle, making his neck pop. ] I can take care of th' frame, if you've already swept up the glass.

Are we even sure he's human?

[For all Scott know, the boy could have super strength and mad aiming skills.]

I already took care of the glass shards but I need to install the frame. Turns out you need four arms for that. If you could give me a hand holding it in place, that would be great.

[ Shrugs - who even knows ]

[ Eyes the window ] Sure.

[ Wanders up to the empty frame, next to the window. Looked easy enough. ]

[Maybe it's better not to ask questions.

Scott gives him a nod and steps to the side to give Shinji some room.]

I didn't know you were still in the building too. [He hasn't seen many people in the building in general, maybe everyone but Scott cared to look for better accommodations immediately. He had never been too picky.] You haven't found the right apartment to live?

[ Lifts up the frame easily - it's a good thing his arms are nice and long, too. ]

I got here two days ago. So I ain't got a job yet.

[ Doesn't sound offended, though. Kind of apathetic, actually. ]

So. Not gonna find somewhere that charges rent, yet.

[Long,s strong arms. Definitely helpful for this kind of task and Scott gives him a smile. He's not weak himself but this required some coordination. With Shinjiro's help he can adjust the window as they speak.]

I'm in the same situation. We can stay here a month, so I'm taking advantage of that to find the right place and job for me. Back home I was always busy but didn't exactly had a job...

[And no one pays you for doing super heroics and saving the world.]

[ Expression is a wince - but he keeps the frame steady. He lets Scott nudge him into place, maneuvering the frame until it sits nicely where it's needed. ]

Yeah, I ain't got a lotta ... "marketable skills" or whatever, either.

[ Wry, humorless chuckle ] Hell, I haven't even graduated high school. Ha.

[Scott shrugs slightly but he's still focused on the window.]

Neither did I. My schoolgirl hasn't exactly been the best. Attleton has schools and I'm thinking about signing up for them.

[mortal_son]

... Huh.

[ Considers. What about him, completing high school?

Yeah. That was a hilarious image, considering what his future looked like.

Barest of shrugs, not budging the frame: ] Seems like a good idea. Build some skills to take home, too.

I don't want to waste time and it will keep me from overthinking things too.

[Scott also know what his future looks like and he doesn't like it one bit. Which is why he's trying to do the exact opposite of what Adult Scott did.

Scott checks to see that the new window doesn't contain any gaps and then smile.] Okay I think it's all ready now, you can let go.

[mortal_son]

... I get that. I do.

[ Shinjiro doesn't think he can stop thinking about certain things. Oh well. Being vigilant was probably for the best.

Takes a step back. Admires the handiwork. ]

Doesn't look bad.

... Right. I don't think I ever got your name.

[Scott pauses, glancing briefly at the other boy and then down. He knows he gets obsessed about past mistakes and future bad scenarios if he's not focusing on something else and most of people thinks he's too serious for his own good. But Shinjiro seems to really understand it.

After another small smile, he too takes a few steps back.] Now to wait until the paperboy strikes again. Ah, sorry...I'm Scott. Scott Summers.

[ Stands there, for a moment, just thinking. Scott didn't seem like a bad guy. But ... ]

... What did you do to piss off the paperboy, anyway?

Nice to meet you, Shinjiro.

[He rubs the back of his head, thinking the question over.]

Nothing? I didn't even know the cities had a paperboy until the newspaper came flying through my window. I think it's just a thing he does.

[mortal_son]

[ Winces. ]

Well. That's great.

So much for tryin to avoid it.

I think some people has the newspaper delivered to their door but you probably have to paid for that.

[And so far both were homeless and not exactly super interested in wasting money. At least Scott wasn't.]

Thanks to your help fixing the window was done far quicker than I expected, would you liek to see if there's anything to drink or eat in the kitchen? I'm starving.

[ Yeah, you could get the paper for free in most cafes, so.

Shrugs. ]

Don't mention it.

I could see if there's coffee, sure.

[Or check the news online, like any cheap normal person would do. It takes Scott less than five minutes to gather the tools and grab his jacket before they are on their way to the kitchen.

He's not very good at small chat and the silence seems comfortable enough that he doesn't feel like he needs to say anything.]

[ It's actually nice that Scott doesn't feel the need to fill the room with empty chatter.

Shinjiro peers at the communal coffee maker. He lifts the carafe, lifting the lid, smells it, looking suspicious. ]

[He does not, yet still pays some attention to what the other teen is doing. Looking around, Scott finds the cupboard with the glasses and cups and offers one to Shinjiro.]

It's stale? We could brew some more if that one's going to taste bad.

[mortal_son]

... Yeah. Let's try that.

[ Shinjiro deeply suspected the problem was with the beans themselves, not the age of the coffee, but he wasn't going to complain. Free was free, after all. Might as well try it fresh.

He wasn't in any hurry, anyway. ]
