Dear friends, having just arrived from my work at the Hospital, I had come upon an interesting train of thoughts I might question of those willing to answer--

[He comes into view finally, sipping from a mug and turning his handheld so it can look at his desk and himself as he seats himself and starts writing on his papers.]

What is "humanity"? It sounds like an obvious enough question, but in my heavy observation of everyone here, I find it doubtful I can receive a consistent answer save that it is a defining characteristic that separates most of us from certain and cast-out individuals who unfortunately have to make a living the same as the rest of us.

Previous discussions on this I've had before tended to quickly devolve into a contest on who was more "humane". Yet, quantifying "humanity" is something I've not been able to do to a degree precise enough to record, and that's saying something since I tend to record... everything~

[He takes another sip from his mug and does a few calculations with his fingers before he writes something else. The camera is of course tilted in such a way that it's only clear he's writing due to the pen he's holding, but he has his usual pleased if not somewhat smug expression on.]

So I ask all the denizens here; can you define "humanity" for me?

Humanity isn't something you can put a blanket definition on. Being human is something different to each person. Trying to define it is an exercise in futility bud.

This is the most concise and accurate answer I've gotten on the subject. Instead let me ask you another question; why do people seem to need base their life off of it?

That's not something I can answer. For me, it serves as a sort of grounding. In my line of work, it would be far to easy to just lose myself in the violence and killing that come with my trade. Holding onto what makes me human lets me enjoy life without putting a gun to someone's head.

It's never been just a job. I mean, I got into this line of work specifically to hunt down the douchebag that had my mother killed, and found I had a real talent for it. ...Not to mention I have fun knocking skulls together.

That's what I was implying however; they do have a different culture and system and if you can not follow it; one tends to be shunned even if they don't know the rules.

As the word expresses membership in the human species, it also expresses membership in the human community. A place in its social fabric, a place in its moral continua, a place in its law...

Well, I haven't been shunned here. That's exactly what I was afraid of when I first arrived here. I was terrified that everyone would be after me, just like back home. But that wasn't the case at all. People have been kind to me and helped me.

A racist term that people use to put humans above other species, as if the only species capable of showing compassion are humans, despite that they're typically the least compassionate of all if it comes to anything but themselves. And sometimes themselves.

Frankly, the term "humanity" is a lie to begin with. Humans suck. [ case and point, emerald. ]

Humanity is..people who have lives and feelings and go through the ups and downs and can connect to each other. I mean, yeah, that's the best thing I think, people have. They can connect to each other. And usually they have morals and stuff.

noun. The quality of being humane; benevolence.
