Lawyer Dies Along with Lawsuit

The infamous feud between the office of Attleton City Guardian and singer/guitarist Pizzazz may be at its conclusion, as her lawyer, Gary Mackley, died in a car accident last week. The case isn’t being pursued at this time, and Pizzazz gives this statement:

Gary Mackley was a great, hard working guy, but it really seems in bad taste to go through with the lawsuit. Right now, his family needs some privacy and support."

Services for the late Gary Mackley are to be announced, but it is confirmed that Pizzazz and her talent agency will support his family with the arrangements.

Several Days Bad Luck

A string of bad luck appears to have hit Fayren over the last week. From mishaps in spell casting to newly constructed furniture among other things suddenly breaking. It seemed to have an unnatural element to it, so after some investigation by the City Guard it was discovered that some sort of spell has been cast over various areas in Fayren.

The spell seems to manipulate luck and causes the worst or near worst thing to happen in certain situations even if there was no chance of it. The City Guard is stressing to everyone in Fayren to be careful and don’t take any unnecessary risks until this situation is done and over with otherwise things could turn out disastrous for you.

Missing Funds

Alix Jordyen, the head of the charitable Foundation ‘Caring Star’ in Nova City was one of the prime suspects of an embezzlement case until just a few days ago. Caring Star helps women and children afford cybernetic prosthetics when they can’t afford them themselves. When a large amount of funds went missing a few months ago, an investigation was launched. There was no concrete evidence as to who was behind the crime, but the Alix Jordyen was the prime suspect after the investigation turned up some evidence that could possible connect him to the crime.

However, the one behind the embezzlement turns out to be Jasemine Wylow, a money manager for the charity. However she won’t be spending any time in jail for her crimes, as she was killed after ingesting some food she was allergic to. A secret safe was discovered in her home after her death that had evidence that pointed to her as being the one behind the embezzlement of the funds, allowing Alix Jordyen to be removed from the crosshairs of the investigator and the case finally being closed.

Alix Jordyen said how he was disappointed in how Jasemine Wylow, a long-time friend of his, could do something so wicked as to take funds. He stressed that he would be making sure that nothing like this ever happened again.

What is Mister Enigma’s Mysteries? It’s a special section of the newspaper, that like the Puzzle Corner, requires you to put on your thinking cap! A Rush Order

The secret, she knew, was always to be inconspicuous. Not that she needed to be
reminded. There was reminder enough in the big, black Citroën parked at the oppo-
site corner of Place Saint Pierre. The two men in the front seat were Gestapo and
made no effort to conceal the fact. They’d be more than normally suspicious too
these days, for everyone knew the invasion was coming any time now. Here in
Caen, the atmosphere wasn’t quite as jittery as elsewhere because just about every-
one was convinced the Allies would hit the beach farther to the northeast, at Calais.
Corinne herself believed that, even though her mission was here in Normandy.
She stepped off the curb onto the cobblestones of the square, head down, resisting
a powerful urge to look at the Citroën. Be inconspicuous, she told herself. Be ordi-
nary. Be just another warweary, French housewife struggling to get through one
more bleak and difficult day.

Behind the car, the bells of Ste. Étienne began tolling the noonday Angelus. She
stared lovingly at the twin spires of the old abbey and could barely resist a grin at
the irony. Thirteenth century these spires were, looming some 90 meters over the
square. The irony, Corinne understood better than most, was that this traditional
Catholic call to prayer still prevailed in a city that had been strongly Protestant for
over 300 years. If asked, Corinne could have added that Ste. Étienne dated back to
the 11th century, that it was a fine specimen of Norman Romanesque architecture,
and that the body of William the Conqueror had rested in its high altar until it was
spirited away during the French Revolution.

Indeed there was very little about Caen and Ste. Étienne that Corinne didn’t know,
one of the reasons she was here. Three years before the war began — it seemed
more like a century ago now — Corinne Beardsley, Professor Corinne Beardsley,
had successfully defended her thesis on stress and balance in early Norman archi-
tecture. She would have been content to spend the rest of her life on the subject,
but the day France fell she had been recruited by the Special Operations Executive,
the SOE, as a radio operator. She would have been content too, spending the war
in England doing her patriotic duty in that role, but a month ago the SOE had come
to her again. As unpleasant as it might seem to her, they said, not to mention ex-
tremely dangerous, there was a medieval church building in Caen that had to be —
their word was “eliminated” — for reasons she didn’t need to know. No one would
know how to do it better than Corinne Beardsley, they said. And so it developed
that two nights ago, on the 3rd of June, a gray, single-engine Lysander had touched
down in a dark field near St. Lo. It tumbled her out without ever coming to a com-
plete stop, and then left her in the hands of the Resistance.

The Angelus bells continued as Corinne crossed the square, but it seemed the only
sound in her ears was her own footsteps, growing louder and louder as she neared
the Citroën. Then she realized that what she was hearing was her own heartbeat.
And no wonder. At the bottom of the shabby cloth bag hanging from the fingers of
her left hand were folds of plastic explosive.

Corinne shifted the bag so that the rosary in her other hand could be seen more
easily. It was important that she appear to be especially devout. She stopped for a
second and stooped to scratch her ankle nonchalantly. It gave her a chance to take
some deep breaths. Just a few seconds more and she would pass the car, pass the
façade of Ste. Étienne, and then drop into the Church of Saint Pierre behind it.
Here she would pray the Angelus like other women of the city and then remain to
pray at every statue, to wander about with her rosary — and scout the building for
its weak point, for the spot where the plastic could do the most damage.
As she passed the car, the two Gestapo agents got out almost casually. Even before
they said anything, Corinne realized she had made a deadly mistake.

Intentional - Several deaths ruled as accidents are being reexamined as it looks like each accident was intentionally caused. The culprit is unknown by a level 2 payment is being offered to anyone that can bring them in.

Nova City

Among the Willows - Three criminals theming themselves after cowboys with modern weaponry have been stirring up trouble in Nova City. A level 2 bounty has been placed upon each of them.

Goodman: The leader of the group. An accident took away both of his arms and he had them replaced with cybernetic ones. He uses pistols as his main weapons.

Baden: Has cybernetics implanted in his body to increase his strength. He uses close range weaponry.

Quigley: Had his eyes cybernetically augmented. He uses more long range firearms and can hit a target within moments of it coming into his view.

Bad Beat - A group of criminals in Everglade have been stirring up trouble. Murder, theft, kidnapping and blackmail are just a few things on their list of crimes. They each wear the suit of a playing card somewhere on their bodies. A level 2 bounty is being offered for the capture of each of them.

If I'm remembering right, back then Protestants didn't usually carry the rosary. Her making the rosary more visible made her stand out, since the town's been Protestant for some 300 years.

Corinne's mistake was the rosary. Protestants don't typically have or use those, but Catholics do. Caen is a Protestant city, however, and such an object would be out of place. That's what attracted the Gestapo's attention.

Info: An unprecedented event took place last Monday evening when every patient in the ICU, including those with terminal illnesses, were granted a clean bill of health and walked out the hospital front door. Doctors are baffled as to the alarmingly quick turnaround of over seventy patients, citing that those with third-degree burns, a missing foot, and advanced pancreatic cancer had all been given a perfect health record before their release. Some claim that this is the work of the Spirit of Genessia City, though others remain skeptical as to the nature of the mass sweep of good health as those who were checked into the hospital for relatively minor injuries were apparently skipped over. Nonetheless, attendance at the local shrine has doubled as a result of this mystery miracle.
