I Feel It In My Bones

WHO: Yang Xiao Long
WHAT: Yang wakes up mildly disoriented in the Bay, then sets out to refresh her memories of Genessia
WHEN: September 28, 2017
WHERE: Genessia City
NOTES: The below log is just a one-shot, but we can start up brand new custom threads if you want to run into her. Just name the date and place!

"Ugh..."

Yang sat up, bracing her arms behind her as her head hung forward, thick locks of untidy blonde hair spilling over her shoulders. For a moment she just sat there, one knee half-bent, eyes half-lidded as her muddled thoughts swirld in her head. The part of herself that had lived in this city...the part of herself that fought in Remnant... Both parts swirled around one another, like oil and water, together but never really mixing.

She gave her head a quick shake as if that might cement both realities into one, but all it did was make her head ache. Instinctively her hand moved to her forehead, but instead of touching warm skin, she felt the brush of cool metal.

It surprised her at first. Her hand slowly fell away from her face so she could look at it for herself and confirm that yup, the robot hand was still a thing. Staring at it now, it seemed so foreign, so out of place. She turned her wrist, confirming that yes indeed, both sides were skillfully crafted out of metal. Her fingers curled inward, and flexed straight. Everything seemed responsive enough. And it still sported her signature colors that she'd painted by her own hand literally.

She swung her legs over the edge of the pod and gave herself a push, her leather boots hitting the Bay water with a careless splash. Yang gathered her box up in her metal arm to let it rest on her hip as she made her way toward the sunlight.

SUDDENLY WEISS.

"Whoa!" Yang visibly jumped back half a foot, startled by the hologram. Familiar face...familiar voice...but was it the same Weiss she remembered? Was she even the same Yang that Weiss remembered? Puzzled, she dug in her box until she found the communicator and powered it up, eyes tracking immediately to the time and date.

"Almost three years," she murmured, no longer paying full attention to her friend's explanation. The hologram seemed fine continuing on, whether Yang was listening or not. But she did tune back in eventually, turning to face the young woman in white. It seemed this place had advanced beyond pamphlets. Probably for the best, she remembered how many people ignored what was written there and panicked over the communicator instead. Good job, Weiss, Yang thought to herself with a smile.

The hologram finished and flickered to silence. Yang took a step back toward the Bay...then moved toward the hologram once more to activate it a second time. It couldn't hurt to get all the information clear in her head, but mostly, she was just kind of glad to hear Weiss's voice again after all those long, lonely months.

* * * * *

Yang didn't announce herself over the communicator. She'd tapped the device a few times on the diner table as she thought about what she wanted to say. But in the end? She couldn't really think of anything. It had been such a long time, she wasn't even sure there was anyone around who still remembered her. Besides, she was still trying to figure out her own situation, and wasn't in a talkative mood. For now, she just wanted to get her bearings and settle in. She wolfed down a club sandwich with a side of fresh fruit, then set out to the department store to pick up some necessities: some extra changes of clothes, a toothbrush and toothpaste, her favorite brand of shampoo and conditioner...and a duffle bag to put it all in. If there was an item that didn't fit in there, she left it on the shelf.

And she still had her shades in her jacket pocket, which she slipped on with a smile.

Part of her was tempted to check on the junkyard/mechanic shop where she used to work, but the owner had left a long time ago. Best to leave it alone. And that same part of her thought about swinging by the old apartment building just in case the Yang Cave was vacant. But without Blake and Ruby and the other adopted stragglers who crowded the place, Yang knew it just wouldn't be the same. Maybe the table that Kamina hammered over the window was still there...

Her nose crinkled as she giggled to herself. This place sure had some good memories. She wondered if the others managed to get that house they'd been working so hard to buy.

With a fistful of apartment building pamphlets and the latest 'help wanted' flyer in her hand, Yang climbed the stairs of the Commons to find her room. She flopped onto her bed, leaving the papers next to her as she folded her arms behind her head and stared up at the ceiling.

Tomorrow, she'd give Weiss a call. For now? She just wanted to make sure she still had her balance.

Just for now.

Five minutes later, she was fast asleep with a half-typed message to Weiss on her communicator.

Weiss! Back in town. How's Frost? How are you? Just wanted to let you know I'm here.
Missed you. :)
Maybe tomor

The device slowly slipped from her fingers as her grip grew lax, and tumbled to the floor with a soft thump.

Yang, how long have you been here without messaging?
I saw your name 15 minutes ago I know you're here.
whiteas: (Speaking of Jaune though)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-28 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
OK you remember Frost so I can skip the intro and get straight to it. Check which Yang you are:

򪪪 Yang 1.0 (who I started with)
򪪪 The one who was here when all the professors were (Ozpin, Glynda, Gen. Ironwood..)
򪪪 Blake's girlfriend

I'm guessing not the third one since I think the Commons was around before that version left.
whiteas: (ok but maybe you could shove it up your)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-28 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot to fill you in on.

That version of Blake is gone too so I don't think you'll have to worry about an awkward break-up, any other Blakes are probably going to be upset with me more than you.

NC. I'm home, I'll come get you. It might take a little while, Jaune crashed my Bentley.

[ Which is somewhat true. She was driving, then they accidentally body swapped so Jaune was technically in the driver's seat when it crashed. Oops. ]
whiteas: (Default)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-28 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Jaune is probably not okay, but that's less because of the car crash and more because of a compounding number of things. But she'll get into it later. ]

OK. I'll ride Joan so you don't have to wait too long.

[ And with that, she's going to ride Arcanine to the Nova City gate. Arcanine is much more comfortable than a car anyway. ]
whiteas: (that's ruby's uncle??)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-29 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ She certainly doesn't have anyone giant to carry her around on his shoulders except for Joan Arcanine, a pun she never intended to make. (Growlithe just seemed like a Joan, she had no idea what she would evolve into!! And Jaune certainly never lets her live it down.) Weiss got there as soon as she could, though because of the Arcanine's size, it's likely Yang didn't even see her behind it's large fur tufts until she slid off the side. ]

Thank you, Joan. [ She's more polite to her Pokemon than most people, let's be real. She looks over at Yang. She has mixed feelings about the situation. Lately a lot of her team's arrival felt like meeting strangers, over and over. Four Rubys, three Yangs, three Blakes. All of them inevitably disappeared and never remembered- it was little wonder she'd developed somewhat of a wall between herself and her teammates that was more of a hurdle than her personality alone usually provided.

This was the first Yang that actually remembered her, that felt like she was still a part of her life here- a life that had gone on long enough she wasn't sure she wanted to go home, not with what the cost of doing so would be. It felt so much easier than trying to force herself to smile through another 'Welcome to Nova City' tour to people who don't know her anymore, even if Yang had missed enough that it was still true. But It was a step above losing everything again, and it'd been a while since she'd seen any of her team. ]

It's been almost three years since I've seen you. This you, anyway.
whiteas: (Ruby is being a pest.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-30 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes. Sun and I still own it, actually. Neither of us wanted to sell it.

[ Okay. House. Storytime. Weiss is definitely going to TL;DR while gesturing and petting Joan's fur. Joan seems interested in Yang, sniffing at her hair and being generally playful but gentle. She's Weiss's gentle giant. (At least, the firey one.) ]

Which.. you don't remember why Sun is co-owner. He and Blake got into a relationship, so he ended up kind of moving into Blake's room. Zuko never moved in but usually just came in through my window anyway because you all were kind of pests if we wanted a private moment. Then eventually you and second Yang left, Blake left, Ruby left, then others came in and we ended up pooling our money to get a small estate. It was gorgeous. Then.. bad things happened, and some of us didn't really feel safe there anymore. It wasn't the estate's fault, but Blake, Jaune, and I had been through something and just.. needed a fresh space.

[ Something she'll save for later. It's clear by her tone she doesn't want to talk about it right now. It's not easy to talk about, and it's not something you want to hear upon arrival either. ]

We sold it and bought a new house, a better protected one. It helped, and Yang 3 and Blake 3 shared a room, Nora and I shared one, Jaune and Pyrrha shared, and Sun had his own. Except then I.. had an accident and summoned a Grimm into our bedroom while Nora and I were asleep, so I went to stay in my office until I was sure I was a little safer to be around. [ Getting tortured and murdered made her a lot emotional. Night terror summoning was not a fun thing. ] After that we all kind of spread out. Too much had really happened to need to stay all in the same house all the time. Nora moved out, Jaune eventually did, and we got a different Pyrrha who stayed in my office with me for a while. Then I got dosed with a serum that essentially splits you into two halves and my less pleasant traits were in one that decided I deserved everything nice and bought myself a house and invited Whitley to join me and made a number of regretful choices. I eventually signed Schnee Company and that house over to Whitley and lived with him so I could focus on being City Guardian which.. I was, until recently when I resigned for reasons I'd really rather not go into, but it was the best decision I could make given the circumstances. I moved in with Sun a little while ago, and we--

[ Ahem. She's got that silly smile on her face that Yang might recognize from such flirtations as Neptune being in the room back at Beacon. ] You can probably stay a couple of nights but I really don't think you want to live with us. We're at a stage in our lives where we need to not live with a million other roommates.

[ Which she hasn't asked Sun about but she really doesn't want to again. She's enjoying the privacy. ]
whiteas: (I'm still not sure about you!)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-09-30 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ Weiss would tell her, but that's one part of her life she doesn't want to relive. Even if Yang had been here, at least for Weiss there would've been very little she could've done. Even if she knew it hadn't been her fault, that she wasn't responsible for that man's actions, it was still centered around her. She had been the one he'd kept alive and made watch everything he'd done. She had been the one he'd wanted to fall in love with him, and then made things worse when she didn't. It had taken her so far down that she barely knew how to keep going. She didn't know how to face her friends, Blake and Jaune and Flynt least of all.

She had run. Sun had been the only one who knew her well enough to know where she ran, and he didn't lecture her or tell her to come back or tell her she was being weak or to get her shit together. He took care of her. They still weren't together then and neither of them thought of each other romantically, but that was the moment that she knew that Sun was the most important person to her. And suddenly the fact that she would leave him alone here if she didn't pull herself together was the reason she couldn't just give up, after it'd felt like she'd lost everything else over and over. There were plenty of other things to live for, but it was something that had taken work. And even after she got back to it, worked through some of the issues, it had taken a while. There were still things that set her off, and even if most of the people affected were gone now.

See, all of those things were for her therapist, that she eventually invested in because she'd needed it, and was still going to from here on out. A fact she wouldn't really admit to many people, but that's something she'll get into with Yang eventually.

Besides, talking about Sun was much more enjoyable. She pointed at Yang, shifting her weight to one side as she clarified. ]

Okay, first: I'm not dating him because he's a faunus. Which needs to be very clear because I don't want any mixed messages getting around because both my father and my brother are here, and while I told them both about Sun and I, I'm still not sure Father thinks I wasn't joking. Sun already wants to push him off a building for reasons I'm not going into but understand, I absolutely don't want anyone thinking I'm dating him to get under my father's skin. I was dating Sun before he even got here.

[ And then she rolls her eyes. ]

And as I found out when he was dating Blake and I happened to let it slip that I already knew the answer to that question, he doesn't appreciate it when people talk about what he may or may not do during fornication. So I can't tell you. [ As much as she would love to gossip about it. But Weiss had matured from that time. She was better at keeping secrets now. She was better at a lot of things, even if she still had her faults.

Weiss moved out of the way so that Yang could get on Joan. ]

Come on, let's go to our place so we're not talking in the middle of the street.

[ It's not a particularly interesting day, by any stretch of the imagination. You would think they'd all be interesting days once you became one of the city's Guardians, that there would always be a threat to tackle, a challenge to beat down, but so far the worst offender has been some weird guy stealing puppies with no malicious intent.

Seriously, what the fuck.

Desperate for something to do, Mercury's taken to the streets in the hopes that maybe he'll just happen upon a crime. A purse-snatching, an armed robbery, a carjacking, he'd take some aggressive jaywalking if it gave him something to do. He's not exactly in any sort of uniform of authority, but it's not like Guardians had a dress code.

He slows to a stop in front of a familiar restaurant, once-broken glass since repaired, even if the interior is alien to him now. It's a place that brings some mixed feelings, some fun memories and some frightening ones, and he stands for a while to stare inside, lost in thought with his hands buried in his pockets.

He usually doesn't spend time on self-reflection, but it's a boring day. What else is there to do? ]
whiteas: (Speaking of Jaune though)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-10-02 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Then what exactly did you mean? Because he publicly uses it for everything from holding cups to hanging from poles and holding my hand.

[ she shakes her head.] I know you wouldn't, but since you wanted to know about Father, I'd really rather he not get it in his head that Sun is just about rebelling against him. He still thinks General Ironwood stole Winter from him, I don't want him to think he has an excuse for my leaving for Mistral against his orders or for refusing to play his games here.

[ Weiss lets out a sigh. Right. She hasn't seen Yang back home since Beacon, there's probably.. a bit to fill her in on. From summoning and disinheritance to Mistral. ] I spoke up at a charity in Atlas after a bunch of socialites were just being essentially terrible people and acting like Vale had it coming. He grabbed my arm to stop me, I panicked, summoned a Boarbatusk in the middle of the party, and after General Ironwood decided not to arrest me, we fought, and he decided to tell the public I was giving my inheritance to Whitley because I was too traumatized to function.

[ She'll still leave some of the details out. Things Yang doesn't need to know, because they're family details. She's told Sun, but honestly.. no one else. She doesn't plan on it. Weiss climbs on Arcanine behind Yang. She can't really see, but she doesn't need to. Joan knows where they're going, and starts heading that way. ]

Needless to say we're not on good terms here, and he's made it very clear that if I don't fall in line, he's not going to play nice. It's why I had two of my deputies take over my City Guardian duties. Whitley has Schnee Company now, since I asked him to so that I could focus on being City Guardian more effectively.

[ Ahahaha that worked out great didn't it ]

Whitley's fine. He's not like Ruby- he's a pest, and he thinks fighting is barbaric, but I think he... [ That's Whitley's business, and she's not sure. Probably better not to say he has no way out. ] He hasn't had much of a chance to exist outside of our father and find himself yet. You remember how I was when we first met. Imagine that, but actually good at pretending to be polite. Still, I think there's hope for him yet.
sarcaskick: (time to get serious)

[personal profile] sarcaskick 2017-10-02 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ He doesn't notice her, right away - and it's not the sight of her in the reflection that does it, either, his vision focused beyond the glass to the tables inside. He'd had some good meals here. Best he'd ever had, really. Too bad the chef went home.

But his Aura pings in the way that alerts him to incoming danger, and it's only then that he catches the blonde's reflection. Well. Okay. He wanted an interesting day, he hadn't counted on this.

He remains mostly unmoving, only shifting his weight a bit from one leg to the other without actually turning around to face her. ]

Hey there, Blondie.

[ He has no doubt she remembers the last time she heard that name from him. Which you would think would clue him in to not use it, but he's not exactly known for his manners. ]

Like what you see?
sarcaskick: (sideeying the fuck out of you)

[personal profile] sarcaskick 2017-10-02 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ He turns on his heel at last, hands sliding out of his pockets to hang at his sides. His words might not have been terribly serious, but his expression is stony, lips not even twinged into anything resembling a smirk. His eyes, for a moment, glance down at her hand - the artificial one, and there's a flicker of something in his expression that lifts his eyebrows just a touch.

That's new.

His eyes meet hers again, sharp and focused, without an ounce of mirth. ]

You want the truth? You're right. It was hilarious.

[ Maintaining distance right now is the safest thing for him to do, so of course he takes a step towards her, then another. ]

I'm not going to tell you I regret it, either. I'm not sure that I do.

[ Which, to be fair, is a far cry from where he was a few months ago, when he absolutely knew he didn't regret what he helped to make happen to Yang. To Beacon. To Penny. To Pyrrha. ]

Things change. A lot has changed since then and now, so if you want me to talk, help me narrow it down - where do you want me to start?
whiteas: (Ruby is being a pest.)

[personal profile] whiteas 2017-10-02 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Then yes, he likes to wrap his tail around me when we kiss and I like it too.

[ It's like being locked in safe and sound, so no one can take her away from him. She likes that, especially after having been kidnapped thrice. The third time was a creepy circus and they got out unharmed thankfully. It's comforting. ]

As serious as can be. Someone asked me if our kids would have tails the other day and I didn't cringe. I mean- I don't want any any time soon but I know I don't ever want to lose him.

[ Which is a weird thought. A worrying one, because despite that Sun is the one person she hasn't lost here, it's still always a possibility. She doesn't know if she can handle losing someone just from disappearing again- especially not him.

Joan breaks into something of a run without being commanded to, but mostly because Joan likes to run, not because they're in a hurry. Weiss doesn't seem bothered but does hold on a little tighter. ]

Who, Whitley? He is my brother, and you're fully welcome to push him out of his comfort zone at all times. That's the only way you all got me out, and it'll come off much better if I'm not the one trying to push.
sarcaskick: (yous a busta)

[personal profile] sarcaskick 2017-10-02 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ She's mad.

Well, it's not like he didn't expect that.

He doesn't resist the first shove, or even the second (though he looks visibly annoyed by it - a third probably would have pushed his patience too far), his body rocking back a bit with each push. No one had actually come at him like this over what he'd done back in Remnant, so even if the events took place years ago for him? This experience is making it feel a little raw again. ]

I did whatever Cinder wanted me to do. Period. She...

[ His scowl darkens - he doesn't like thinking about Cinder anymore, and it's been a while since he's really had to talk about her. Doesn't feel good. ]

She found me when I was at my lowest and dragged me out of there. Gave me a new life, a chance to walk forward instead of bleeding out in the dirt. It felt good. Wasn't until much later that I realized she's a manipulative bitch, but until then I was happy to break whatever she needed broken.

[ A moment, then another, before he sighs in frustration, running a hand through his hair. ]

I was in over my head. Caught up in some kind of... blood feud between my boss and yours - Ozpin, I mean.
