video + action
[ Mercury, never content to just start the feed focused on his face like a normal human being, instead backflips into the frame shortly after the video begins. What might be most surprising to anyone who knows him is his change of attire - instead of the same outfit he wears pretty much every single freaking day, he's in what appears to be some kind of uniform. Blue buttondown shirt, darker blue slacks and a hat of matching color, a nice pair of shoes... he kind of looks like-- ]
Ta-da! Guess who works for the post office!
[ Yeah. That. ]
Well, the Nova City branch anyway. So anyone who lives around here can expect to be seeing a lot more of me soon. Right on your doorstep, even! I can hardly wait.
... I won't be the one delivering the paper, though, so don't whine to me about broken windows.
[ He winks at the camera, leaning in as if to turn it off... but pauses for just a moment. ]
Oh, uh. Right. If any of the other city's guardians could shoot me a line? There are things I'd like to discuss. Sooner rather than later, please and thank you!
[ Now he clicks the feed off. ]
========
PRIVATE TO: Emerald Sustrai
[ ... or at least clicks the feed to a private channel. ]
Tell me your jaw didn't just drop.
=========
ACTION: Nova City
[ Mercury, on the job and dressed for it, is making his way to the addresses he's assigned to for the day with a sack full of letters and such slung over his back. Feel free to intercept him, or have him show up at your door with some stuff.
Or, perhaps, talk about delivering something outside the normal postal system. He's not opposed to some smuggling work on the side. ]

[Action]
He left his sculpting knife on the table as he made his way from the back work room to the shop. If he did well enough, he might need to order someone to watch the front. That way he could work without having to constantly watch the counter.]
We're open! Sorry, I was about to flip the sign - oh! [He recognized this face.] You're the guy that was in the heart costume. I didn't know you worked for the post office. [Which still didn't explain why he was sneaking around as a heart, but he had decided to just let that one go.]
[Action]
He adjusts his hat briefly as the door opens, a lopsided grin on his face. ]
Yep! Gave up a life of spreading love for a life of spreading mail.
[ He unfolds his arms to reveal a clipboard, which he casually pushes towards Ryou along with a pen. ]
Signature.
Re: [Action]
I'm sure you'll be great at it. Got to try new things, right?
[He jots down his name.]
Thanks for getting it here on time. I have a lot of commissions this week.
[Action]
[ I mean, he either tries living by the books for a while or stays stuck in hiding forever. It's not that he doesn't have a choice, but one option at least gives him a little freedom.
So, yeah. Trying new things. ]
That's the job. [ A pause, as he purses his lips in thought. ] For future reference, if you slip a little extra something my way I can get it here even earlier next time.
Re: [Action]
[He was probably going to tip you anyway.]
[Action]
[ ... it's not, but. ]
I mean next time if you need something delivered in a real hurry, for an upcharge I can speed it through processing and have it brought to you that much faster.
[ ... by "speed it through processing" he really just means "grab the box from the warehouse and go". Sorting out the paperwork is someone else's headache. ]
Re: [Action]
Thanks. I'll keep it in mind. [He hands Mercury his tip. After all, why not spread good karma?]
If you ever need something made rushed, I'll do the same for you.
[Action]
... What exactly do you make?
Re: [Action]
I'll probably try some other projects in the future. My first figurines were originally gaming pieces - I used to build whole gaming boards for table top campaigns. Who knows? Maybe I'll try my hand at building my own board game and base it off of Genessia.
[His usual calm demeanor brightens and he looks almost giddy.] I already started a small model of Fayren. But, it's not finished, so I keep it in the back.
[Action]
Mind showing me? I don't really go to Fayren, what with the Hands business and all. I'm interested to see an artist's interpretation.
[ gotta fake it to make it ]
Re: [Action]
Sure, it's in my work room. [He frowns at the mention of the Hands.]
It sucks. Fayren is the first place I visited when I woke. And I have friends there.
[He toys with one of his carving knives looking distracted and a bit regretful.]
I wish I could do something. But fighting never came naturally to me...and I never thought I'd need it.
[He snaps himself out of it because he doubts anyone wants to hear him brood.]
This is it. [He pulls the cloth over a mostly made city. The forge where Adela works is going to stand out the most because it's actually painted unlike some of the other parts and because he honestly put a lot into it.]
[Action]
You're better off staying out of it. Anyone who doesn't want to fight should just move out, really. Kind of dumb for people to stay there intentionally.
[ He leans a bit closer to peer at the model once it's unveiled. Never, in all his life, has he had to fight the temptation so hard to just kick the thing into a thousand goddamn pieces. The reaction would be priceless.
UGH. Being a good guy sucks. ]
Not shabby at all. [ all the more reason to KICK IT-- no, no ] ... What's going on there? [ He gestures vaguely to the painted forge. ] Something special about that zone?
Re: [Action]
That? N-no. [He wasn't even sure why he stammered. Why was he embarrassed?] Well, I do like armor. And swords. When I was little I used to pretend to be a knight. [He laughs to hide his abashment.] I always played those...and Paladins.Though, I have to admit I liked playing the bad guys too.
[It was his guilty pleasure. And then he met a real villain.]
[Action]
what was that last part. ]
... Let me hear your best villain impression. Humor me, here.
Re: [Action]
His voice drops several octaves and there is no trace of the friendly, open boy that owns the shop. His expression is stern and he fixes Mercury with stare that is utterly pitiless. He's sneering at the other boy as that he were a piece of trash clinging to his shoe.]
Though if you insist, we could see how long it takes before your screams are echoing off the wall of this chamber. I'll learn what it is you fear the most....
[He tries to finish that off with a darker variant of his own laugh but he loses his composure at that point and is really laughing now.]
I'm so sorry! Ha ha! That was terrible. But it's been a long time since I've been able to play that sort of game with anyone.
[Because his darker half does enjoy moonlit walks through torture chambers...and loved to turn games into nightmares.]
[Action]
But that man had died, and with it died Mercury's fear of nearly anything. So if anything, this show is just a pleasant reminder that he's grown strong enough to shrug off that sort of thing. ]
It was pretty hammy. You ought to get back in practice.
Re: [Action]
[He puffs out a sigh. Oh well.] What did you and your friends do together back in your world?
[Action]
[ The delivery is so flippant that it has to be a joke, right? ]
The usual.
Re: [Action]
With children's card games and magic![He grins.][Action]
