This Was No Accident
WHO: Yang Xiao Long & Others
WHAT: Yang's in poor shape after her last encounter. But she gets better. And she gets angry. Then at the end of the week she hunts Mercury down to give him so many words.
WHEN: October 15th - 21st, 2017
WHERE: Hospital - OPEN (10/15-10/17), Anywhere but Attleton - OPEN (10/18-10/20), Mercury's Apartment - CLOSED (10/21)
WARNINGS: Mentions of past traumatic events (Yang's lost arm, child abuse, shitty circumstances all around), possibly some Dad jokes
"Hahh--!!"
Yang jerked awake with a start. The smell of a hospital room carried a lot of strong, awful memories for her. That sickening plunge in her gut when she'd tried to lift her right hand only to see the blood-stained bandages tied around a useless stump...the sight of everyone's faces gathered around her but no sign of Blake or Ruby...
...The dread, sorrow, and guilt on her father's face that he tried to hide behind a smile when he came to take her home, telling her that Ruby still wasn't awake...
And for one horrible moment, when she looked at the empty space where a right arm should have been, all of those memories surged up and threatened to overwhelm her. But then she saw the yellow and black of her prosthetic, resting neatly on the nightstand beside her bed. Slowly, the terror began to wane, replaced by disappointment. Again, she'd needed saving, and again, she'd failed to save someone she cared about.
Her gaze shifted to the nightstand on her left side where her communicator rested. She picked it up.

Yang frowned. Well, it was still early. People didn't recover quickly from the beating of an angry, overprotective father who'd seen his daughter's life in danger. She'd just have to give it some time. For now, she had to concentrate on the good things. Her dad (of all people!) was here. The nurses could restore Yang's aura and fix her injuries. Her father could help her pick up the pieces of a broken heart.
Hunters and Huntresses of Remnant seldom stayed out of a fight for long. As Yang's aura returned, so did her strength and vital energy, accelerating the superficial injuries she'd sustained. Her nose would hurt for a while, and her ribs ached, but the only wound that seemed like it might not fully mend over without a scar was the deep gouge in her right shoulder that Marcus had deliberately carved into her. She only needed two days to recover, but those 48 hours were agonizing. Once the nurses told her that Mercury had checked out almost the second he'd opened his eyes, Yang's worry turned to annoyance, and she checked her comm.

After several minutes of mulling over, she decided to reach out first. For all she knew, he assumed she blamed him for what happened and was afraid she'd track him down again the way she had in Nova City for their reunion. She left a message and went to sleep. When she woke up, another check of the comm device yielded the same results.

"Aaaaaagh!" she growled her frustration, hurling the device across the room.
...
...And then she sheepishly asked a nurse if she could please have it back.
When Yang was well enough to leave, she hooked her painted metal arm securely back in place and rolled her sleeve down over the elbow. If Mercury needed time to sort things out, she'd leave him alone. That couldn't have been a good experience for him, the last thing he needed was Yang showing up to flaunt her injuries in his face.
But he wasn't going to be left alone forever. With each passing day, Yang's impatience and irritation pushed her temper closer and closer to the surface. There were still some people she needed to talk to, so she'd seek them out if they didn't manage to find her first. Once she ran out of distractions, though? She knew exactly who she was going to be gunning for, and he couldn't hide from her for long.

Spider-webs? Of all the powers you could that has to be the lamest one I've ever heard of.
[Wow. Rude.]
Jeez. You're really rocking the whole bounty hunter business, aren't you?
[She notices that glance. She's got an urge to say something, but maybe just talking to her will be a decent distraction.]
Captain America. She's got like a super strength, speed and hucks a big ass shield at people. My dad has like every issue of her comic too.

[She looks happy, though, at being told she's doing good at her job. It's not like she has a supervisor to evaluate her performance, so she appreciates the praise.]
Heh heh! It's thrilling work! Satisfying, too. I think I'll keep doing it for a while. Hey, speaking of which, what are you going to do for work around here?

It sounds like it, you get to have some crazy adventures each week. Almost like a cartoon.
[There's a shrug there.]
I ended up getting a job as a barista at the library. Hyper lame in comparison to what your doing but it pays the bills. Maybe once I can afford a drum set I'll see if I can get a band going and do some shows instead.

[While her alter-ego has more cartoon adventures with Yang, and she'll never even know it.]
Which library? I could stand to pick up a couple of new books to read. Then I can totally have an excuse to get some coffee while I'm there, and punch out anyone who talks louder than a whisper!

[Gwen will eventually screw up that secret. Just give her time.]
The Genessia Public Library or whatever. The big one in the main city.
Not only would I pay to see that but I'd kill for some extra company there.

I'll stop in! Hopefully they won't demand my old library card, I'm pretty sure my teammates tossed out all my old junk when the new Yang showed up. Do you get to flirt with any hot nerds?
no subject
[There's a smirk.]
Every now and again.

[She holds up her two fingers.]
And one of them was into girls, so. Go figure.
[Yang just assumes maybe that Yang was bisexual, because she's always going to be pro-shirtless dudes, how could this ever change? It's unthinkable.]
I dunno if it was an alternate world or not. I skipped out on...what, three years or so? I guess? Anyway, tell me about your conquests.
no subject
[Pfffffft. That's a snort and a laugh at that.]
Really? Nothing wrong with that but I can't see it.
[There's a little nod.
Then a pause as she clears her throat. Busted]
Okay so there's not actually a whole lot of conquesting going on at the library. I mean a couple cute guys every now and again but no one all that special.
Haven't really had a conversation hold any more meaning than this is making my shift go by that much faster.

[It's sad because she thinks she's hilarious.]
Huh... I guess there are just too many nerds with low self-confidence. They'll gather up the nerve eventually, I'm sure of it!
[Nerds can be good-looking. Just look at Neptune! ...Yeah, Yang wouldn't set Gwen up with that guy, she can do better.]
I'll swing by and be your wingman sometime, then. We'll get your conquesting underway soon enough.
