I'm still gonna find a way home.

But, while I'm stuck here---does anyone wanna have me be their bodyguard? I'm good at killing monsters.

[Link frankly didn't care if there were special protocol to be followed. He figured if he could earn a little extra money, he could use it to buy some supplies and he could live on his own.]

[This is no sheltered child. It's difficult to say whether his answer pleases her, causes her concern, or earns her irritation. There's only a faint lowering of her brows as she fixes her serious gaze on his young face.]

Let me find one of those Redea---Zombie things. They're starting to avoid me, it'll take a minute.

[If he could get a job, he could get money, live apart from everyone, and find a way to get him and Navi back home. He didn't expect anyone in the city to be nice any more, and he honestly didn't mind showing off his skills.]

[While other people in the city might easily qualify as 'nice,' Winter is not one of them. But while she might not lend out charity, she's not heartless either, and if he can impress her sufficiently, there may be an opportunity yet for the boy.]

[Link set his device down, and it gives an awkward view of him effectively taking out a pair of zombies. As good as he is, it's obvious no one has ever trained him on any sort of style. He's got innate talent for this.

After several minutes he cleans his blade and picks up his device again.]

These are really grosser than the ones back home, and they don't fight as good. But, they're still attacking people, so we gotta get rid of 'em.

[Winter observes in critical silence. As one well-versed in the blade herself, she's well-trained in spotting what he does right, and what requires improvement. Does she tell him to step away from the danger on account of being a child?]

[No. Remnant is a harsh world. While children are seldom expected to fight monsters, one who possesses talent should not be restrained from exercising and honing said talents if the desire to do so is there.]

[His care for his weapon is also noted. Good; she does not tolerate those who practice improper care for the tools that keep them alive.]

I would propose that you apply as a member of the castle guards in Fayren. Soldiers in training are paid a living wage and provided food and shelter. If you wished to continue your training as a member of the royal guard, you would answer to me and receive direct training to improve your swordsmanship. You are quite good, particularly for your age, but I saw several areas which require correction.

As the first eight weeks of my training are conducted entirely outdoors, you would be provided the necessary supplies to maintain your own camp, albeit as part of a unit rather than in solitude.

If you find these terms acceptable, you may submit an application to the employment bureau. In the meantime, continue to provide protection to those who need it within the city, and I will send you funds for food, supplies, and shelter until the crisis has passed. Do you accept?

[His hand reflexively went to his pocket, where he kept the three spiritual stones he'd gathered for Zelda.]

[On the other hand, it sounded more appealing than just sitting around being bored.]

[Link's face lit up.]

[A look of relief flickered across his face. That seemed incredibly fair. Link shook his head at her question.]

No Ma'am, she's not.

I see. But it is a possibility that she may arrive at some future point. I, too, have a superior officer to whom I must answer. The conflict of authority is a matter I clearly understand.

Should she arrive, you may decide then if you wish to continue in your capacity as one of our guardsmen while maintaining your loyalties to the princess, or depart should the strain prove too great.

[He might be a little on the illiterate side of things.]

A form on which you print your name and qualifications, to be submitted at the employment office.

[ And he gave a confident nod. The rest, well....]

Then I am certain the office personnel will assist you with the rest once you make your intentions known.

[Honestly, she wouldn't be surprised at all to find that some of her soldiers might offer to help him with his reading and writing after a day's training has completed. ~~She'll be surprised to find herself doing so, though, but that comes later.~~]

[Link shook his head.]

[She inclines her head and the feed ends. Shortly after this, there's a ping! sound as Winter diverts some of her funds into Link's account, as she promised.]

[There would be a crumpled application, so very obviously handled by a young boy. The name "Link" is written firmly with a less confident "uv of the Kokiri" written beside it.

The single qualification listed is a sentence written painstakingly "i can ~~fit~~ ~~fite~~ fight." ]

You seem a bit young to be fighting the monsters.

[Not that she would know really that some young people are used to this type of thing and are good at it.]

I had to fight some back home. I got pretty good at it.

Was there something going on back home for you to have to?

[Link nodded a little.]

An evil man from the desert set monsters on people. I had to help get rid of 'em---and get some things for the Princess.

Ah, okay. Though why did the evil man send monsters on people? I mean apart from being evil.

[A little blonde girl appeared on the screen. However, it was clear that she was really little. She was kneeling over the camera, bug-like antennae dangling and she had butterfly wings slowly fluttering. She appears to be a fairy, at least for now.

She looked quite curious and impressed if her blue eyes were any indication.]

You fight monsters...? I don't meet many boys who fight monsters.

[Fairies, kids, and especially girls, were all okay in Link's book.]

I didn't used to, because there didn't use to be any around. But, then, they started appearing and---and I was asked to help back home.

So, now I do.

[She smiles. She admires those who are strong.]

So are you like a knight in training? Were the monsters scary? Are the monsters showing up in Genessia anything like those you fought in your homeworld?

Not exactly. I'm just--I'm just doing something for the princess.

[Link gave a small shrug.]

A little. The Zombie things? They're like ReDeads, only, not as powerful.

[Zombies? Like undead? Anastasia has a massive issue with them, but she tries to hide any body language to reveal that.]

You serve a Princess directly? That is quite the honor and I hope she rewards you well. What is your Kingdom like?

[Now, as a Princess herself, she quietly wonders if she practiced what she just preached for any of her friends here.]

Oh, I'm just--just helping her. Her dad wouldn't listen to her....

[Link smiled at the question about Hyrule.]

Hyrule's really---beautiful. The mountains and the fields----Lake Hylia---the villages---it's amazing to see. The forests are beautiful too, but, that's where I grew up.

[She can just almost picture it in her mind's eye.]

It certainly sounds like a nice place to visit. Particularly Lake Hylia and the fields.

What is the temperature like in Hyrule? And the seasons?

I'm pretty good. I mean, I'm still alive and the monsters aren't, so---I think I'm doing pretty good...

[He gave a small, if somewhat shy smile.]
