[He smiles a little at that, concerned for her, and sympathetic, but more than a little bit dubious.]

...no, I know... but you thought Rose had to be an impostor when she said something a bit mean, and I had a Dalek following me about that's not really there, so it's not so much the face I'm worried about.

[...okay, so maybe what Rose said was more than a little mean, but that's really not the point, and he'd really rather downplay that at the moment, anyway.]

"I thought Rose was a ganger taken because she's pregnant, and then Kovarian shows up and.... Wait. What do you mean a Dalek that;s not really there?"

Oh, Amelia... why d'you think I haven't been 'round Attleton for a bit? When d'you see her, then? Does she come indoors at all? Didn't strike me as the sort who waits to be invited in, if she wants your attention.

"Ah...rooftops." [Rooftops she might have walked off of if not for intervention.] "I don't know why you weren't around. Sometimes you're just not for a while. Where are you, then?"

[...rooftops. Well, that takes the smug right out of him, which is probably telling. He rubs his face a moment as he starts talking, sticking to his observations.]

...around, elsewhere, there are... changes, everywhere, here, monsters appearing in Genessia City, people transformed in Nova City--and in Attleton, illusions, well, not illusions, but projections, they can hurt people, but they're not real, like... whatever we want the most not to see, given form, probably something to do with Genessia's telepathic field, at a guess. Far as I can tell, they only appear outside, try to hurt whoever's projected them, can't damage buildings, disappear if we're indoors or leave Attleton...

[Having had a moment to compose himself, he puts on one of those enigmatic, bittersweet smiles.]

...well, if there's a Dalek that's only there while I'm in town, best I should be somewhere else for a bit, yeah? And if Madame Kovarian only shows up when you're on a rooftop... ...well, without an army at her command, she's just an ill-tempered lady with an eyepatch, but how far would you go to stop her, to protect your family from her? Probably to the edge of a roof, yeah?

"I...I was only ON the rooftop to get at her....." [But now she was thinking, scowling and thinking.] "I want to find whatever runs this place." [Whatever thought this was funny? Yeah, she wanted a few words with that.]

"Your face before you is some sort of werewolf. Rose is a gargoyle." [Because sharing information at this point, if there was something larger, would let him see more of the picture.]

"If whatever runs this place is this active... isn't this the time to find them, then?"

[...not super thrilled about all that, but... he shakes his head.]

Haven't felt anything dif'rent, well, besides what's obvious, and... well. Psychic vampires, telepathic barriers--and now very personal projections, alongside transformations and monsters but only the sort familiar to Earth 'round about your time, and Europe in particular, like the attack of Halloween Pop Culture, just the sort of thing you'd expect from a mass projection. I'm not so sure anyone decided to do it, exactly.

"Well something started this, and isn't fixing things like this what we do? So let's get going. I'll change and we'll start figuring this out. We'll have it wrapped by dinner." [Bravado because she's trying not to fall apart.]

Why don't you come and meet me out by Everglade, we'll have a look about, did I mention everything's candy, there, whole buildings, repairs itself faster than you can eat it, what d'you s'pose that's about, then?

[He knows all too well that frantic need to Do The Thing Right This Second, because that was him for a few years, before they met. So he's 100% going to play along--at least long enough to get her away from being haunted by that specter of Kovarian, anyway.]

[A hesitation... then a small nod. If nothing else, better to stick together.]

"Alright. I'll get changed and head over."

[And it will keep her from checking her phone.]

"Let River and Rory know where to find us?"

Ah, yeah, probably best they know where we are, don't need to start them worrying just now, I'll see you in a bit.

"Yeah." [She cut the connection and got changed, wearing a long coat so she could tuck River's gun into an inner pocket. And maybe a little bit inspired by tie Doctor. It made him look skinny and she figured it couldn't hurt her in the least. She also wore jeans for running rather than her usual short skirt, a comfortable top and a nice scarf. She topped off the look with her Sonic 'Specs and headed out.]

[Just to be confronted by the sight of Kovarian on the roof of the building across the street. She called the Doctor back.]

"Just how sure are we that she isn't real?" [she asked, tightly, phone in one hand... gun in the other. She has it on voice mode. The gun was aimed at the eyepatch.]

...whot? Pretty sure, a bit sure. ...good odds, no, hold on, did you see her again? Where are you, right now?

[As usual, he has a little difficulty balancing Comforting with Honest, but there's one way to be sure.]

"Just outside the house, it's like she was waiting for me, sitting on the rooftop across the street. Smirking." Her grip on the gun tightened. "So just how sure are you that she isn't real, Doctor?"

Ah, good, keep your eyes on her, and step back inside, let me know what you see.

[He's already seen that the projections seem to disappear whenever you're inside a building, which makes for a pretty convenient test, if you're right at your front door.[/small>]

"I'm sorry, WHAT?"

[FFS Amy why do you have to be difficult when he's making a point.]

Eyes on her, step inside, tell me what you see, go on.

[Three easy steps, he knows you can do it.]

[It is a measure of how much she loves and trusts him that he'd hear her stumbling back. The phone would get pressed between her shoulder and ear, eyes still on Kovarian, gun still raised, as her now free hand fumbled for her keys. She opened the door then frowned.]

"No good, Doctor, if I step back I'll lose sight of her."

Because of the door frame itself.

...right... all right, you said she's on a rooftop, what's she doing right now?

"Sitting. Smirking at me and..." [A moment, then her voice somehow manages to get even more ticked off.]

"She. Just. Waved."

...sitting, brilliant, quick as you like, inside to the nearest window you could see her from, she's not that fast, on her own she's just a cross lady with a vendetta and wrinkles, you should be able to make it before she can get out of sight, if she's really there.

"........................... You better be right about this... Doctor...." [she said, trying to figure out which window would be the best.]

That she's not that quick, yeah, not a doubt about it.

[A rude sound. then she figured out which window was best.] "hold on, going to have to put down the phone to move fast enough," [she warned.]

[Just the briefest pause; there wasn't a better way to be sure, to make her sure, and he doesn't want to make her think he's doubting it. Really, his main concern's that it might be harder for her to stay on task without him Jiminy Cricketing at her shoulder.]

...all right, I'll be here when you can get to it again.

She nodded, not that he could see it, and bent carefully, eyes still on Kovarian, to set the phone on the ground. She stood, glaring, then RAN for the window and looked out. There was the muffled sound of Amy muttering at herself before she came back to the phone, and cried out.]

"You're right, she was gone, but she's back now. And she's holding a baby, Doctor..."

Whot- ...Amy, you're outside, again?

[He pauses just a tick.]

...it's showing you the thing you want most not to see, or at least, the thing that's easiest to shove into a shape and have it follow you about trying to hurt you... you remember the psychic pollen, yeah? The Dream Lord, just after Rory came along with us?

"Of course I remember that... It wasn't really it wasn't...." [Oh this was going to stink.]

"I have to let her kill me, then?" [she asked, striding forward, phone between shoulder and ear again, gun still raised.] "Mind if I take her down with me, then?"

Whot, no, of course not, are you listening?!

[That might have struck a chord, there... ...or he's just getting impatient.]

No, that was a dream, this's a projection, but it's malicious like the Dream Lord, so it shows you the thing you want the most not to see, and tries to hurt you with it. I get a Dalek, it doesn't need to be clever, it's got a gun built in, and anyway, it's a Dalek.

[Because he can't resist throwing in a burn against the Daleks as a matter of principle.]

You get Madame Sourpuss, but what's she going to do to hurt you without a plan and a small army, be snide? No, if she's going to hurt you, she's got to do it by luring you into a trap, why d'you think she's on rooftops? She'd probably try to get you to climb in the oven, too, given the chance.

You don't ignore her, you avoid her while you're in Attleton, and if you haven't got a reason to be, you either stay indoors or get out of there, either way she doesn't exist, which means you can't really ignore her then either, if you think about it, and did I mention the candy houses?

[i.e. there's plenty going on elsewhere that probably isn't going to try and get you to hurt yourself.]

"Fine... I'm coming. But we need to get Rory and River out safely too. They're at least as headstrong as I am..." [she backed into the house to write them a note.] "Well... River is."

[He kind of blames you a bit for that, Amy.]

River's... ...clever, I've got every confidence that she can handle it, and Rory, well, Rory the Roman, make sure he knows you're okay and he's got nothing to be afraid of.

"I left them a note. I'd tattoo it on his stupid face or just take him with me, but he's at work."

"You say it like she could do anything worse than she's already doing," [she muttered. She closed and locked the door one handed, the other hand holding the gun, phone still on her shoulder. Just in case, she wasn't putting down that gun for a good long while. She was even walking sideways to keep Kovarian in her sights.]

I'll be just inside Everglade, got my fez, y'can't miss me.

[He had his priorities straight while packing to be out of the house for awhile, after all.]

"Of course you do..." [she muttered, still keeping Kovarian in her sights as she walked.]

"I didn't realize Everglade was a whole alternate reality." [Snarking at him, even in this circumstance.]

"Ah, still delusional then..." [A glance at Kovarian, who seemed to have jumped, because she was on a different roof now.] "And apparently not the only one either..."
