[As the feed begins, one can likely tell that this particular broadcast isn't intentional by the way Qubine can barely be seen pacing back and forth in front of the device several feet away. His breaths are raspy and heavy as his feet seem to pound on the ground, an audible thud marking each step. Any who care to listen would hear him mumbling through gritted teeth.]

That thing...in Attleton...that wasn't Shayla. That couldn't have been. I saw her back home when I went to the Dream Docks. I know she's safe...for now, anyway.

[But who knows how long that will last, as long as a certain dark dragon remains at large. Qubine seethes some more as he thinks of Erebus, who had already made one attempt on Shayla's life. He has to be stopped, especially if Liora's claims are true.]

Erebus...wait 'til I get my claws on him. I don't know why he's so fixated on Liora. He's either attracted to her, or he believes that she'll be his downfall. Well, if she isn't...then I will be. I swear it... [Hiss!] I swear it...

[His pacing and raspy breaths continue until he accidentally knocks over his device with his tail as he turns around, which caught his attention. He crawls over to his device, picking it up and glaring into the video screen. How many people had heard his ramblings? Come to think of it, why does it matter? There's little point in trying to address anyone who might have heard it, so he gives a discontent snarl and a vicious growl, which seems to intensify, his rage growing to the point where he could explode. However, the feed cuts off before he reaches that point.]

[This was unexpected! She had only known dragons to live in Amani lands, and to find one here? She wanted to communicate with it.

The ~~annoying~~ little defender of nature assumed a dragon-like pose.]

[And give off the most ferocious and childish roar she can manage. It's supposed to be some kind of dragon greeting.]

[Annoyance gave way to confusion as Qubine studied the figure on the screen. She couldn't be a human, because she had a different set of ears. Qubine tilts his head as he addresses the creature.]

...What is this?

[It speaks her language! Either that bullshite attempt to communicate worked in teaching the dragon, or there was something more illogical at work in this world.]

This is an Elin. And you are a talking dragon that is talking to an Elin. What were you musing on about, Mister Dragon?

[Well. Not quite the same language. Qubine's eyes flutter a bit as he tries to figure out what she's saying. Is "Elin" her species?]

As for what I was musing about...do you know what's been going on in Attleton?

[In the brief time she had to get this machine working, she did find a back log of the most recent posts. None of it sounded bad.]

No. What'd I miss?

[He lets out a sigh, rolling his eyes, sounding rather bored now.]

Those who ventured into Attleton's borders would find their own worst fears coming to life. That's what I was musing about.

[She lets out a sigh of her own. An exaggerated, drawn-out sigh.]

And you went to Attleton, and by some manner of magic, your fears came to life? What does a huge beast like you even have to fear?

"Some manner of magic..." I suppose that's one way to put it.

[He really doesn't know.]

As for what I have to fear...it's losing the one dragon I care about the most.

[As a Valkyon Priestess, she came to understand the feelings of the more mortal races.]

Ah... Physical wounds, I can heal. Emotional ones...require therapy. Speaking of... am I able to go to Attleton? Or has it been quarantined?

...If you'd like to go, nothing can stop you.

But I wouldn't recommend it...

Then I suppose a better question is, has anyone been hurt, harmed, maimed or disemboweled in any way, shape and form?

I believe most of the damage suffered there is mental and emotional, but I believe that physical damage is quite possible as well.

Hmm... As I said, I can't do mental or emotional scars. I'm a priestess, not a therapist.

[So much for carrying on with her usual things.]

Are you okay, Qubine?

[Qubine has to seriously think about that question. This was the kind of pain he was trying to prevent by keeping Shayla safe. Even if what he had seen in Attleton wasn't real, the pain he felt as he tore up her doppelganger was. He couldn't just magically forget about it and move on, but he couldn't let this hold him back either. Weiss's bitch of a sister didn't help.]

[He lets out a heavy sigh.]

I've been better...

Do you want to talk about it? Sometimes, it helps.

[He tends to talk anyway, so he might as well with someone who's willing to listen.]

What I saw in Attleton was my mate...dead and reanimated.

...I'm sorry.

Those illusions in Attleton looked very realistic.

...That was exactly what I was trying to prevent back home. I couldn't bear that kind of pain if I lost her. But I ended up feeling it anyway. I couldn't live with myself if I lost her for real...

This was very cruel of this world to have you go through this. But at least now you know she's still safe and you'll have other opportunities to prevent it from really happening back home.

...And that's exactly what I intend to do when I do get back home.

[That's about the only thing he gained from this whole mess - a renewal of his resolve.]

Do you sometime wish Shayla was here with you?

...Most of the time. If she were stuck here with me, at least I could protect her.

[A case of the spirit invasion would be where he has his doubts...but he would make sure to get her to one of those safe houses as quickly as possible if it happened.]

But Liora is here, at least, and you can protect her.

[Mavis understands how it must feel. Sometimes she feels bad that she's away from home and can't protect her guild. But part of her has faith in her guildmates. They can take care of themselves, even without her. And this world is her chance at a new life. With Zeref.]

Liora is...a special case. Protecting her won't do any good. She needs to be able to protect herself.

[He could say the same for Shayla, but he's just too scared of losing her to let her take the Passage...]

The two are not mutually exclusive, you know.

You're right she needs to be able to protect herself. But even when she gets stronger, she'll still need someone to have her back. We all do.

[He shrugs.]

True...but she still wants nothing to do with me.

I really like Liora. And you know I'll be there for her if she needs me too. But if she ever needs the kind of help only a fellow dragon can provide... [She winks.] I'll let you know.

I suppose that's true...

[Mavis simply smiles at Qubine as if to say 'you're welcome'.]
