Moving Day
WHO: Yang Xiao Long, Gwen Stacy, Pyrrha Nikos, Mikaela Banes, OPEN TO ANYONE
WHAT: Four girls move into an apartment together. There's just no way any hijinks could happen as a result!
WHERE: Genessia City - Regency Apartments (Room 404)
WHEN: November 1st, 2017
Yang yawned as she stuffed her clothes into a suitcase. And when she packed her belongings into a large box. And when she brewed one last cup of coffee at the house in the hopes that it would help her stop yawning at least for a few hours.
It didn't.
She yawned as she walked down the street, carrying the box with the suitcase on top in her arms like it ain't no thang, because for someone of her strength, it really wasn't. She yawned as she picked up the keys to Room 404 at the front desk and rode up the elevator. She yawned as she shifted the box and suitcase to one arm and unlocked the door to let herself in.
So maaaaaaybe setting up a move-in date the day after a big party wasn't the best idea in the world, but it did make it much easier to manage the rent and the lease. She could take a nap later if she needed to.
And that was how her roommates would find Yang, face down and draped sideways over one of the beds, her things still sitting in the middle of the floor with the front door ajar. She was dead to the world. Wake her up? Let her sleep?
...Or cause shenanigans?

Gwen blearily carried boxes that were overflowing with random odds and ends. Her place on her own world had been a mess, her first place here had been a mess. Her new room here was also going to be a total disaster. Some things never change. By the time she drops a box on the floor she has to follow the trail she walked to pick up anything that fell out of the box before.
Good luck new roommates. Have fun living with a hurricane.]
2.
[Oh. And someone definitely took a sharpie to Yang while she was sleeping. Enjoy the monocle, curly mustache and soul patch.
Gwen's just going to pocket the sharpie and slowly walk away. Cue innocent whistle.]
2.
[Looking like the evil version of the Monopoly guy.]
[She yawns, yet again, because she really could use more sleep but being in a strange new place didn't let her pass out for as long as her body really needed.]
HurrgagumphtehGwen.
[Have fun interpreting that, as she makes her way back to her box o' things and stands there.]
[Squinting at it.]
...Is ice cream still good if you leave it out for three hours? I mean...can you refreeze it, and still have ice cream?
[She might have left ice cream in that box and forgotten about it.]
no subject
Instead she very smoothly continues to lift a few boxes that are about to burst at the seams into her room.
She's not a hundred percent sure if Yang has figured out what she's done by that grumble but at least they have the really tired thing in common today.
Her next comment gets a raised eyebrow out of Gwen. She approaches the box and glances down.]
You could try... I don't think it'll ever really be the same again though.
Rest in peace, ice cream.
no subject
[Stupid Yang for thinking she could just 'rest her eyes' for a second before putting away the frozen food she carried over. She sighs. Popping open the cardboard box, where she separated the food in a trash bag, she opens it up and...]
[...comes out with a sticky pink hand. WELP.]
Uh...so...grocery store run after we're done unpacking?
[Because the ice cream not only melted, it spilled over everything else. Not that Yang had all that much to begin with, but she's not sure she wants strawberry-flavored everything.]
Gotta pick up a trash can and more bags too.
no subject
Her eyes glance between the overflowing boxes in her room and Yang. She wan't huge on the whole unpacking idea at the moment. She had already moved the boxes up, wasn't that enough?]
How about we ditch that box and make a quick run over for groceries now? That way we have food for when we finish?
no subject
[Or she could go shopping with Mayor McYang. The choice is hers.]
Eh...yeah, that's probably a good idea. I don't think we'll want to move much after we finish.
[She rinses the ice cream from her left hand and shakes it out to dry, since she doesn't have any dish towels yet. She'll have to make a list of common things she just took for granted. Towels, washcloths, sheets, a blanket and a pillow are already on that list.]
I should pick up a TV while we're out too, then we can relax and play some games as a reward for moving in.
[And she probably means that literally.]
no subject
Sleep deprivation seems to be our theme today. So yeah, I'd say chances are high we're going to pass out earlier tonight.
[There's a nod at that.]
Ooooh. That's a good idea. You ready to lose hard again?
no subject
[She'll find out about the artwork on her face eventually, so. Yes. There will be an asskicking in some shape or form.]
You carry the groceries, I carry the TV?
no subject
[She's well aware the act will come back to haunt her.]
Yeah sure, you're the one with all the muscles after all.
[Because Gwen's muscles are a secret..]
no subject
[It's hard to sound intimidating with her face graffiti, but she sure acts confident, throwing her hair over her shoulder.]
Anyway, let's head out. Maybe the walk will wake me up some. Or we can hit up Moonbucks on the way there.
no subject
We'll see! If you do win I at least wont have to go out and buy new controllers after you throw a fit and snap them. So it might be worth it.
[She heads over toward the door.]
Moonbucks. This apartment needs more caffeine.
no subject
[She shakes out her hair and grabs her jacket from where she tossed it over the couch, shrugging it onto her shoulders. Looks like she's going out in public like this. This is her fate.]
[Yang pulls on her boots and pockets her keys.]
Ready?
no subject
Gwen pulls on a green sweater and moves to put on her chucks.]
I'd rather have a long meeting with my bed, but I'm as ready as I'm going to be.
no subject
[Which means she didn't stay up all night taking down decorations. Yang holds the elevator door until Gwen's inside, and then they're riding down and heading into the streets.]
Did I tell you I got a boyfriend last night?
no subject
...Maybe she actually went trick or treating? I mean that's not an entirely lame thing to do.
[Hoodie up! Hands in pockets for the walk.
There's a surprised look in her eyes but a smile on her face at that next comment.]
No shit? Congrats.
What happened to Mercury? Did you throw him off the balcony?
[She's kidding.]
no subject
That was one of the options he gave me! I'll show you the notes when we get back, it was actually really cute.
[Only Yang would call anything Mercury does 'cute.']
He had them set up like a scavenger hunt that led me up to the roof. He wasn't wearing a costume. He handed me the last note that said 'What is Mercury dressed as for Halloween?' And it listed 'Yang Xiao Long's boyfriend.'
[Talking about it seems to have perked up quite a bit, even more effectively than coffee could have done.]
It's just so...nice, you know? He put a lot of effort and thought into the whole setup. He really cares.
[They've reached the grocery store by the time Yang finishes her gushy story. The doors slide open and Yang wheels a cart through. Most people don't glance their way, but the ones who do? They double take before gawking at Yang's face. And then snickering. She hasn't noticed yet.]
You don't mind if I gush about it too much, do you? It's kind of a big deal for me, I'm still excited.
no subject
[Pfffft. That gets a snicker.]
That is the best, corniest way to ask someone out.
[Gwen can't help but smile as she sees the people that notice Yang's lovely makeover.]
Go for it. I'd be more worried if you weren't excited the day over. Over excitement is kind of your thing.
no subject
[She assumes her usual shopping position, one foot propped up on the lower rack, arms folded over the handlebar, just casually scooting down the aisles.]
When I first came here, it was hard. I didn't know very many people, except for Weiss, and the last time she saw me, this me, it was three years ago. So there were changes. We weren't really close anymore, so it got pretty lonely sometimes. But we kept hanging out, you know? Even though at first I didn't really trust him. He fixed my arm, kept me alive during a bounty hunt, helped me clean up a whole house...and we got closer, and closer. Friends, even.
[She stops in the 'breakfast' aisle, picking through the types of coffee available. She can't remember if they have a coffee maker or not, so...instant coffee it is.]
You remember when I was in the hospital, after we went to Attleton? It was a nasty experience for him, shook him to the core. But when I took that bounty there later, and I jumped out of the gate, I landed on him.
[Yang turns her head and smiles at Gwen, a little pink in the cheeks.]
He was waiting for me. Even though he hated that place, he was just...there for me. And I realized he'd always been there for me, almost from day one. After that, I just...I knew...that I loved him. So it wasn't really a head-scratcher when he asked to be my boyfriend.
...Oooh, porridge...
[She squats to look over the hot cereal options, beaming.]
1
she watched this struggle momentarily as the new girl walked in with her things, dropped some, and went to retrieve it... which is where this redhead made her move. )
Good morning~! ♪ ( why is she so chipper... ) Do you need some help?
Pyrrrrha!
She was that dead to the world that she hadn't noticed that much red approaching her. She looked to Pyrrha with bleary eyes.]
Mragorning.
[Translation. Morning.
Okay she gives a little cough, rubs her eyes and tries that again.]
Uh-Yeah. Good morning.
[She considers that. Her Spider-Woman costume is already hidden in a box under her bed, so she didn't have to worry about anyone finding that.]
I don't have much left, but sure.
no subject
[ Why. Whyyyy.
Yang might have been yawning all the way to the new apartment, Mikaela spends her way groaning and grumbling - but quietly! - about the sun and the noise and everything being mean to her. Even with the huge sunglasses she's wearing there's far too much noise. She doesn't have a lot to carry, fortunately, only a bag with clothes and knickknacks she's acquired here, and a large backpack with tools and little tinkering projects she'd brought home from work.
When she walks in, the first thing she says - in a whisper! - is ]
Please tell me we have coffee?
2.
[ She doesn't have much to unpack, but once she's mostly made peace with her hangover, there comes the important part.
Decoration!
Watch her try to put posters of cars all over the place.]
2.
[But this will change once the sexy calendars are rolled out. Be forewarned.]
[Yang instead perches on the foot of her bed, legs folded underneath her as she messes around with her communicator. She's taking a break after moving the television into the living room and washing off Gwen's artwork. In retrospect, it's probably a good thing Gwen and Pyrrha are roommates; Pyrrha's too nice for the sharpie-to-the-face treatment, she'll be much safer. And when the tenth poster goes up...]
...You must really like cars. Not one oiled up beefy guy hanging out next to the pool?
no subject
Mikaela grins toothily, though it does little to hide that she's feeling a little sheepish. Maybe she's overdoing it. Just a little bit. ]
Nah, not yet. Give me a little longer to find my local celebrity crush, and then you'll have to put up with all the sexy beach boys. But would you believe... This is gonna sound weird, but I'm kind of hanging up posters of my friends.
no subject
[Believe it or not, Yang's first thought isn't that the cars are secret alien robots who can talk and protect humanity. She just thinks Mikaela was probably a lonely kid with a knack for fixing cars, and spent more time around automobiles than other kids her age.]
Oh yeah? Tell me about them.
[She even puts her communicator aside to give her roomie her full attention, resting her elbows on her knees.]
They got names too?
no subject
And really, she is a secrets-making-you-lonely-in-a-crowd kid to whom cars have been better friends than the classmates whose approval she tried so hard to win, but that's not why the posters. ]
See the yellow sports car? That looks almost like a Camaro. My boyfriend and I made friends with a yellow Camaro who is really a giant alien robot... yes I know it sounds crazy, but I'm not. His name is Bumblebee. We fought in a battle against evil alien robots together.
[ She points at another, silver car. ]
And this one kinda looks like Jazz. I didn't know him very well, but he was nice. He died in the battle. The leader of the bad robots just tore him in two with his bare hands.
no subject
[Yang repeats each word slowly and distinctly, one brow raised. She sounds skeptical. But that lasts only two seconds before she's back to beaming.]
I've heard crazier, trust me. Sounds cool! I named my motorcycle back home 'Bumblebee' so I like that guy already.
[Plus he's yellow. Seems like Yang isn't calling shenanigans on this. Mikaela isn't really the trolling sort. If Gwen had told her this, Yang definitely would have rolled her eyes. She's pretty sure her roommate is being honest, though. She winces at Jazz's fate.]
Well that's. Horrible.
[She looks at the posters again. Alien robots, disguised as cars. And Mikaela was a mechanic.]
So you were kinda their healer?
no subject
That would have been awesome, but no. I learned about cars from my Dad, he... um, he worked with them, kinda. And he took me along a lot. But I didn't learn anything that would have prepared me for dealing with aliens from outer space tech.
[ She exhales in a puff, blowing a strand of hair out of her face. ]
I would have liked to learn. I had hoped I would get the opportunity to learn. They had their doctor... mechanic on earth, too. Learning from him would have been nice. Or going to college for robotics after school, but I won't be able to afford college.
no subject
[Yang reclines on her hip, propped up on an elbow as she gestures vaguely at their still-pristine window that the paperboy is bound to break soon enough.]
You could probably manage it fine, in Attleton or Nova City. Latter is probably your best bet if you want to look into robotics. But you should look into it, if that's what you really want to do.
no subject
I'll look into it. I still have two years of high school to get through, but if I'm still here in two years...
[ She shrugs, looking discomfitted again. ]
Not that I'm hoping I'll be here for that long, just... you know.
[ It's too weird there's a little part of her hopes she is, when the rest of her still wants to go home. ]
no subject
[She self-consciously runs her finger over the wrinkles of her comforter. Yang definitely had some moments of her own where she wanted to throw her hands up and just go home. But she has her teammates, and friends, and Mercury. Mikaela is the only one here from her world, so it's tougher for her, she knows.]
Anything I can help with?
no subject
Not right now... you're doing plenty already. Living here with you girls, having friends, that helps a lot. It makes it easier to... well, not forget that my friends and family are a world away, but I don't feel so lonely without them.
Don't worry about me, I'll be okay. Just gotta take a little while.
no subject
[She rolls off of the bed and heads for the wall, stretching out her arms to hold up a corner of the poster so her roommate can plant the tack.]
Take all the time you need. I've got your back.
1
Don't worry. A coffee maker was the first thing I bought when I got to this crazy place.
[Genessia in general. It probably wasn't going to take long before the apartment became a crazy place.]
I just... Have to find where I put it.
[Because she didn't organize anything when she was packing.]
Re: 1
[ Mikaela looks at the jumble of their possessions and slumps against the wall, closing her eyes. The world is no longer too bright and loud to bear, but that doesn't mean she doesn't still have a monster headache. ]
Coffee or a nap... Coffee or a nap... I just can't decide.
1
You should be safe to take a nap. You aren't as easy of a target for sharpie attacks as Yang is.
no subject
Heh, you can try... but I'll just sharpie back.
no subject
Later. Too hard to be creative on this little sleep.
no subject
You could, I dunno, steal my coffee. That would be pretty evil.
no subject
no subject
Awww, fine, I'll just have to be suspicious of everything you do then.
