TEEN GIRL SQUAD!
WHO: Mikaela Banes, Yang Xiao Long
WHAT: Two teen girls talk about teen girl things, and then go on an emergency shopping trip because Yang is in need of a fancy dress like, now.
WHEN: November 10th, 2017 - Morning/Noon
WHERE: Regency #404 -> Genessia City
It felt really good to be sleeping back in her own bed again. Or, well...staying awake several hours with her arms folded behind her head just listening to the sounds of her roommates moving around, watching television, or simply being there. After so many months of being trapped in that creepy dream, it was nice to be home. And she didn't want to go to sleep again until her eyelids were too heavy for her to keep them open a second longer.
So even though Yang didn't really sleep all that long, she felt plenty rested when she woke up in the morning. She bundled herself up in the new throw they'd bought for the couch and made a cup of gross instant coffee. Even that was a comfort in its own strange way, and she sipped from it slowly as she nestled herself into a corner of the couch and browsed idly through the newspaper that had been so kindly delivered via Gwen's window. Sure it was a few days old, but she was still trying to adjust to the whole one year vs. three days time variation, and reading over the current events helped.
When she finished with that, she dug up her communicator, and replayed some of Mercury's voice messages he'd sent to her. A stupid smile was fixed on her face, and her toes curled in the soft blanket as she tipped her head back and closed her eyes, just listening. It made her feel warm and safe...happy.
The floorboards creaked, alerting her that someone was awake. Yang sat up a little straighter and turned off the communicator. She was hardly embarrassed about her feelings, but she didn't want to be annoying about them either. She lifted her chin to peek over the couch and beamed at her roommate as she emerged from their shared room.
"Morning, Mikaela!"

She was hardly embarrassed about her feelings, but she didn't want to be annoying about them either. She lifted her chin to peek over the couch and beamed at her roommate as she emerged from their shared room.
"Morning, Mikaela!"

She gave another hearty yawn, nose twitching at the smell of instant coffee, and grinned at the sight of her friend, returned to them safe and sound.
"Hey!" Despite her sunny greeting she flopped limply onto the couch next to Yang and held out a hand. "Coffee? You have coffee. I smell it. Share with me?"
no subject
At least Mikaela didn't seem to mind instant coffee. Yang wanted it mostly because there was something comforting about a warm drink. Now she had a happy roommate, and that was a far better substitute.
She jutted her thumb over her shoulder. "Did anyone call maintenance about our little door issue yet?"
no subject
She wriggled under the blanket along with Yang, though she wasn't even really cold, she just wanted to be closer to her friend.
"Aaaand as for the door... Um? Not really?" She grinned. "And for the record, I'm still totally blaming Robocop. He turned into a ninja or something over you being gone."
no subject
She smiled sheepishly at the remark. She had to admit, it was nice to know he cared enough about her to worry, but she did feel kind of guilty that he got that worried in the first place. He was going to think she was incompetent at bounty hunting if half of her attempts ended with him needing to save her from being thrown into molten steel or being stuck in a dream forever.
Yang still kicked Pumpkins's ass, though.
"Yeah...you guys mentioned he was the one who kicked the door down. I don't know any of the details beyond that, though." Was it okay to ask, or did that make her a terrible person? ...Screw it, it was still nice to know he cared about her that much. "And I guess it's fair. I did punch his door down a few weeks ago when I was worried about him too."
no subject
She sipped on the cup of coffee some more, quickly sobering. Her eyes were solemn as she sized up her friend, reassuring herself once more that Yang was fine now.
"It was pretty scary for all of us, you know," she admitted quietly. "But I think he was scared the most. I gave him a lot of grief over the broken door but in reality..." It had been easier to focus on the door than on the fact that Mercury was scared because then she would get even more scared. "He cares for you a lot."
no subject
Her gaze had been resting on her knees as Mikaela spoke, and her expression softened. "I'm sorry about that. I never wanted to make any of you guys worry. I mean, I'm supposed to be the one who looks out for everyone, you know? So having the positions reversed...I don't know how to handle it sometimes."
There was definitely a touch of guilt in her lilac eyes, even as she awkwardly smiled. "I just hope you don't think I'm unreliable, or that I can't protect you guys if something dangerous comes along." She rubbed the back of her neck, closing her eyes and exhaling. Was Mercury really scared for her...?
Her hand drifted down to her opposite arm as she glanced away, still wearing that sheepish smile. "...And I care about him a lot too. Like...a lot. I just don't know how to tell him without it seeming...I don't know...overwhelming, I guess. It's hard holding back."
no subject
"Don't be dumb!" she exclaimed, "you're not unreliable because you got caught in some freaky magic trap and turned into Sleeping Beauty! That's... No." She huffed a little and pressed herself closer to Yang's side, snugly shoulder to shoulder with her. "Don't even say that. Bad things happen, that says nothing about your ability to protect people."
The soft smile returned to her face. "I'm sure Mercury would say the same if he were here now and could hear you." She bit down on her bottom lip. "But I don't know how to go about telling a boy that you love him. I've gotten anywhere near that far with a boyfriend. I guess you could just... I dunno. Wait for the right moment?" She grimaced. That sounded so cliche.
no subject
She needed to apologize for that the next time she saw her little sister.
"Well, telling him how I feel is the easy part. Doing it when he's actually ready to hear it? That's the real obstacle, since he kinda overheard me talk about him over the communicator when I said I didn't think I was allowed to use the L-word around him just yet. So...he kinda knows. I'm trying to pace myself so he doesn't feel rushed or cornered."
It didn't really change her feelings, though.
"We've only been dating since the Halloween party, and last night was our first official date, so I definitely know I'm running ahead. It just feels a lot longer to me because of that spell." She scratched the side of her head, her face screwing up in confusion. "I pretty much had an extra year to miss him and be afraid he'd moved on by the time I got back, sooooo...my feelings are probably a little more intense than his." She tipped her head back to stare at the broken door. He was scared the most... "...Maybe."
no subject
She listened to Yang, nodding and chewing on her bottom lip while her friend talked.
"Honestly, I dunno... That's difficult, with the extra year. And Mercury is..." She waved a hand. "He's Mercury. I barely even know the guy and I can see he's kind of an unique case. But he cares for you, right? Really cares. And he knows you're in love with him and didn't run away. If a guy really didn't want attachment I figure he would run away. Dump you, or cheat on you, or just be an asshole to make you dump him. He broke down a door for you." She gave a little shrug. "I'm not saying it's a fairytale, but it's not all bleak."
no subject
She just hoped he felt as secure about it as she did.
"That's true," she agreed, her smile warming. "And I don't think he'll run again if he cares about the integrity of his front door, heh heh heh..." she giggled.
For some reason, the mention of the Halloween party was still floating in her head. It seemed like it was ages ago. She definitely remembered their first kiss on the rooftop, and the way he looked so awkward and falsely nonchalant when he waited for her answer. But wasn't there something else that night, something...
Shit.
Yang suddenly sat up, stiff with shock. "I completely forgot that we had reservations for a candlelit dinner at a fancy restaurant tonight. What time is it?!"
no subject
But then Yang mentions the date and that... that just won't do.
Mikaela leaps up from the couch, nearly toppling over tangled in the blankets as she still is.
"What are you still sitting here for?!" she yelps. She grabs her friend by the arm, trying to haul her up. "You have to get ready! Fancy restaurant means fancy dress and getting your hair done and just... Come on, it's the perfect opportunity to dress up!" She gives her a wide-eyed look. "You have to!"
After all, who wouldn't want to dress up and look fancy for a night? It's perfectly logical to Mikaela.
no subject
Yang's arm popped right off. Dammit, not again!"Fancy dress yes, but no one's touching my-- Whoa!" At least she wasn't the one holding the coffee mug anymore. The blanket spilled to the floor as Yang stumbled up to her feet. It didn't really seem to matter much that she had hours to get ready and clean up, the panic of suddenly remembering the dinner date that she's been so looking forward to before her disappearance made it seem like she was crushed for time.
She took a half-step toward the bathroom to shower, then abruptly reversed toward the bedroom because she needed clothes to change into, then reversed to the linen closet because she also needed a towel, then again toward the kitchen because shouldn't she eat first in case she spilled milk on herself... She was like a blonde tornado of indecision.
"Wait, you're coming with me to pick out a dress, right? Because you're going to need one too at some point!" Besides, it was just more fun to go as a group.
