Date Night!
WHO: Erza and Mirajane
WHAT: Erza accidentally entered herself in a date auction, and Mirajane won the bidding. Two weeks later, the date night has arrived, and it's time to see if Erza came up with something that can impress Mirajane.
WHEN: November 19th - evening
WHERE: Fayren --> Attleton --> Nova City
At first, Erza had figured that this was just going to be a night out with a friend, but after being told by several people that dates were generally romantic in nature, she quickly became flustered about how to handle this, not to mention what Mirajane might be expecting. Her guildmate had made it sound like she was doing this to help Erza out, and if Mira hadn't put in a bid, the results could have been horrifying (though she's convinced herself that she had just been imagining Ichiya's voice). Still, she told herself, whatever she had planned would be fine! Probably.
Mira had said that she expected flowers for the date, so Erza had made sure to get a bouquet in advance. Roses were generally recommended from the books that she had read, but frustratingly, none of them specified how many to get. She decided to handle this problem the Fairy Tail way, and as a result, she went quite overboard and got dozens of roses, to the point where it's hard to see her through them. Her face doesn't make it much easier, as it's so red that it practically blends in with the flowers.
Her dress of choice matches her choice of flowers. Given the time of year and how much weather can change from one city to another, she figures she'll be changing several times throughout the night, but she figured that dressing to impress would be the best way to start this off.
Taking a deep breath and running through her plan in her head, Erza knocks on the door to Mirajane's dorm room. ...Then it hits her that she probably should have checked to see if Mira was still at the bar first. Or how she might explain this if someone sees her in the hall. Or what she'd do if the weather had taken a turn for the worse while she was preparing for all of this. A bunch of similar what-if scenarios start running through her head, and by the time that Mirajane actually shows up, she'll be even more nervous than she was to begin with.
"I... uh... got these for you." Erza holds the bouquet of roses out in front of her almost like a shield, not really sure what she's supposed to do with them.

So it was with a bit of surprise when she opened the door of her dorm room one night and Erza was standing there in a stunning dress, with dozens of Roses. Somehow she hadn't expected roses since most of the time in the language of flowers red roses were considered romantic, and she was fairly certain Erza didn't feel that way. Then again, it struck her that Erza probably didn't know the first thing about the language of flowers, and the striking red of the flowers did suit the red haired mage rather well.
"Erza?" She was still taken a bit by surprise, so it was taking her mind a few moments to register that it had been roughly the two weeks she'd given Erza for time. While she'd expected a bit more forewarning before she showed up... she couldn't help but to smile as the surprise slowly wore off. Actually that smile soon turned into a happy beaming glow, taking the bouquet of flowers tenderly, and stroking the soft petals on one of her roses in admiration.
"Oh Erza, you shouldn't have! I would have been happy with just two or three, but to go so all out on a simple gift?" While she told Erza she shouldn't have, she seemed to have no problem accepting the gift and tugging Erza into the room to see what her plans were for her roses. She started to distribute the roses throughout her dorm room, several old, polished, and cleaned out liquor bottles being turned into vases. She hadn't expected so many flowers as she'd mentioned, but the roses were definitely very Erza in her opinion, and Mirajane had an almost girlish glee when it came to flowers. When she ran out of vases, some of the flowers were put on her wardrobe, some of them she laid on her pillow case, and the most strikingly beautiful of the roses she handed back to Erza.
"Would you mind exquipping this away for later?" She wasn't sure if Erza could exquip a living thing, but perhaps if it was small enough and immobile like a flower was, she might be able to manage it. "I can always just have one of us carry it, but I think it will be much more dramatic if you exquip it when I give you the cue~"
Yes, Mirajane clearly had plans for the evening, whether or not Erza had planned for her plans or not. She suspected their plans would coincide, but if not she'd just have to be sure to drag Erza where she wanted her during their date.
"If you want to take a seat I'll get changed really quick, I didn't know tonight was the night, but I did prepare for it just in case." She'd gotten a dress just for the occasion, not having Erza's exqupping abilities, so having to think long and hard on what dress she wanted to go with for the evening unless she wanted to expend a lot of magical energy just to maintain a transformation for a mere dress.

The redhead feels better about Mira's question, since it's one that she definitely knows the answer to. "Of course!" The rose vanishes into the pocket dimension, though Erza does briefly wonder why Mirajane wants to save a single rose for later.
It isn't until she's sat down, waiting for Mira to get changed, that something hits her. "Wait, what cue?" That makes it sound like her guildmate has plans of her own, which was definitely not something that Erza had considered. She had planned out what she wanted to do tonight, and while nothing was particularly time-sensitive, Erza's not exactly the most flexible member of the guild.

"Don't worry, I can tell you went to a lot of trouble this evening, so I'll do my best to be on my best behavior." Mirajane slipped out of her normal dress, being almost as shameless as Erza with her lack of clothes.

Trying to distract herself, she looks around the room at the newly-filled makeshift vases. "I'm glad you like the flowers. I wasn't sure what kind to get, or how many, but you certainly were prepared for them."

Fortunately for poor Erza, Mirajane doesn't notice her blushing, because she's more focused on finding her dress. She'd picked out the perfect one for the evening, something very classy but not so out of the ordinary to intimidate Erza. Something that was both casual and something she could wear on a regular basis but simply didn't. The result? A stylish black dress that Erza may have seen her wear before, but not all that often. "So what do you think? Classy enough for wherever you plan to take me, but not too classy if you decide to take me somewhere unexpected?"

She takes a deep breath - there didn't seem to be any way to back out of this now. "So are you ready for..." She starts to trail off, unsure how to describe this - the last time she remembered feeling this unsure of what to say was when she took on that acting job with Wendy, or when she was declared the seventh Guild Master for Fairy Tail. "...our night out... on the town... together?" Erza Scarlet: master smooth talker.

"I'm ready to go if you are~!"

Thankfully, the weather had improved as the day went on, so they wouldn't have to walk through rain to get to the portal to Genessia City. Sure, she could have hired a carriage or other vehicle to take them to the portal, but a certain someone had suggested going for a walk, and since they had been on 'tons of dates', who was Erza to argue?
Erza still had a firm grip on Mira's hand as they walked down the streets, as though she was afraid that she was going to get dragged away.
"So, how often have you done this... sort of thing?" Sure, the Weekly Sorcerer Magazine claimed that Mirajane had been seen in the company of countless men, but it had also claimed that Gray and Cana were dating based on a picture of them sitting and talking, and that Erza herself was a city-destroying juggernaut, so the accuracy of its articles was a bit suspect in Erza's mind. (even if that last one was, in reality, a mild exaggeration at best)

"Oh... probably a couple dozen. Mostly all of them were first dates because I'm usually willing to give someone a chance if they work up the courage to ask, but it takes a bit to actually keep my interest. Some of them were members of other guilds, I've been on dates with one or two of our guild members like Loke, though he was definitely someone I wasn't going to give a second date to." Considering the fact that he was flirting with the waitress, had a run in with one of his exes, and a run in with one of his current girlfriends all on the same date... it was definitely a sign not to get involved.
She looked away from the shops at the side of the street to grin at Erza "Though I can say with confidence this is my first date with another woman. No offense, I just tend to prefer guys. But, I figure this will be a good learning experience for you without having to worry about embarrassing yourself in front of a complete stranger, or worse, someone you have romantic feelings for."
"Although if you do have romantic feelings for me, just remember I have a strict policy of no hanky panky on the first date." She gave Erza a teasing grin, a squeeze of the hand holding hers, and a wag of her finger... as if Erza could actually work up the nerve for something like that. Well no, with her weird sense of modesty versus immodesty she might consider a lot of hanky panky as 'common sense' if she thought a situation called for it. Like cutting someone's clothes off if they're on fire rather than dousing them with water or smothering the flame.

She raises an eyebrow at Mirajane, somewhat confused at her wording, before it dawns on her what 'hanky panky' is referring to. "Of course," she says as she nods enthusiastically. "That... erm... makes sense."
"Thanks again, though. I didn't realize it was a..." Her face turns red, both at her mistake and the thought of what could have happened. "...date auction when I went up there." Erza wasn't one to admit her mistakes often, but she couldn't exactly pass it off as her having planned to do this. "I'm glad I'm spending time with you instead of, like you said, a complete stranger." As an added bonus, the walk was nice, and the cool air helped to make her feel a little more relaxed, or at least make it feel less like her face was going to start burning from embarrassment.
...though once she realizes how long it will take to get to their destination, she'll definitely be calling for transportation, or taking a train or bus, for the rest of the way. While she'd been to the other cities before, going to four out of five of them on foot would take much longer than she initially thought.

"And then the cake exploded, and I turned to Elfman shaking in rage and asked. 'What did you put in the cake?' And he said in the most cute and innocent voice 'P-Popcorn?' And Lisanna was just rolling on the floor laughing, and laughing, and soon I couldn't help but to laugh with her, and Elfman too! Ahh... that was a good birthday party." She was so caught up on sharing stories with Erza, that she'd barely touched her beautiful tuna salad, and she popped a forkful into her mouth after finishing her story with a cheery smile.
"I'll admit, I'm a little impressed Erza. I expected something a bit more over the top or completely lacking in class entirely, but you seem to have picked a nice place that's not ridiculously extravagant, but still very nice. Shall we go dutch treat? Or do you plan to pay for this evening?"

They're just about wrapping up when Erza decides to bring up something that's been on her mind. "You've heard of the Dream Dock, right? They say that you can see what's happened back home, and after everything you've told me about that, I think I'm going to go. There's... a lot of things that I want to see with my own eyes." Her imagination can only do so much, after all. "I'll have to look into it more before I go, just to make sure it's completely safe."
((OoC: Figure I'll time it so she comes back just as the upcoming event starts, just to add to her confusion))

She hadn't really told Erza much about how Jellal never did seem to come by Fairy Tail even after his pardon, and she worried perhaps that might influence Erza negatively when it came to matters of the heart. She was just starting to get close to Erza, but if she went to the dream docks... would she live through the entire year or so that Mirajane had lived through that Erza had not yet? There were all sorts of worries that Mirajane had, like what if Erza didn't come back? What if Erza decided she was too hung up on Jellal? What if-... no she'd never get anywhere if she kept pondering all the what ifs in the world.
She reached across the table and put her hand reassuringly on Erza's. "If you're doing this for me, then don't. I mean I'm perfectly happy having you a year younger than me you little whippersnapper." She gave Erza a playful wink, but it lacked her normal enthusiasm. "But if you're doing this for yourself? Then I think you're right... you have to at least give it a try."

"And after what happened last month... I need some closure with my-- that Spriggan woman. My..." She didn't want to say her 'fear' of Eileen; she was supposed to be better than that. "...concern about what she could do could have gotten a lot of people killed."
"I just have one question." She's not sure if she'll like the answer that she gets, but she has to know - it's a topic that's been conspicuously absent in their discussions. "Is Jellal alive? I... can't help but worry that he might sacrifice himself to beat Zeref, that he might think that is the only way to redeem himself." It's a thought that's woken her up more than a few times in the middle of the night, drenched in a cold sweat. She'd like to believe that he has so much to live for, but there are times where he doesn't seem to share those thoughts.

"I..." Mirajane hesitated... and then almost flinched at Erza's question. "Oh Erza I feel I have done you a terrible disservice by not telling you when you first got here! Jellal is alive and well, and he even earned a full pardon along with Crime Sorciere for their actions during the Alverez war. He's free to live his own life now."
So... why did that hurt so much to say? She should be happy for Erza... but Jellal in all that time hadn't come to Magnolia to be with Erza. Normally Mirajane had a policy not to go after people who had other romantic opportunities, but if Jellal couldn't bring himself to be the man that Erza deserved, then someone should be there for her. She deserved more happiness than anyone, with all the pain, all the battle, and all the bravery Erza has shown... she was so angry with Jellal for not running to Erza's side the moment he was pardoned.
2/2
It sounded like it was a tease at Erza's expense, which is exactly the kind of thing Mirajane would normally do. What it really was? Was a slap in Jellal's face for abandoning the most wonderful woman who ever lived.
1/2
"That's..." She breathes a sigh of relief. "It's so good to hear that. Maybe it will help him with--" Wait, what was that last thing that she said?
2/2
And then there was the matter of what they'd even do - planning for this date had been tough (mostly due to her nerves and her tendency to try and plan for everything), but it was doable because she knew the sort of things that Mirajane might like. With Jellal, they hadn't exactly spent much time together since she joined Fairy Tail, and most of that time was spent taking on dark guilds or other threats to the world. Not exactly 'first date' material.
"Maybe that could work, yeah..." Erza suddenly becomes very interested in what little is left of her meal as all of this runs through her mind.

"Well if things do get too complicated with Jellal being the way he is, just remember there's plenty more fish in the sea. I know of at least two or three people who'd love a chance with you if you ever need my matchmaking services. Or depending how this date goes, maybe you'll even fall for a certain silver haired ex-model. Now wouldn't that make for an interesting twist?" That was one of the fun parts about teasing Erza. She could be 100% serious but if she used the right tone of voice it would sound like she was just teasing.
She very much doubted Erza would fall head over heels for her, or even have a crush on her with just one date. The important thing was to just lay the seeds of the idea for Erza and see if they take root. Then when the time was right she'd test the waters, and maybe... just maybe she'd win her over. It was like a very elaborate game of chess Mirajane was playing, carefully maneuvering around Erza's awkwardness, her feelings for Jellal, and even her possible ideas of how relationships should work. Mirajane herself had to fight with herself about falling in love with another woman, time and time again, but if it was Erza? She'd literally do anything for her at this point.
She scooped up the last piece of her salad with her fork, and hummed contentedly. "So Erza, what's next?" She wouldn't put it past her to only prepare for dinner as the entire date, but she was fairly certain Erza had more in mind. She had asked Erza for a perfect date, and while this was very nice, she'd only just barely squeak by with a D- which just wasn't Erza's style.

Seizing the opportunity for a subject change, Erza happily outlines her plan. "We're off to Nova City next. I'm sure this will be especially memorable." She was especially proud of this next part - while a lot of her plans had come from books or anonymously asking around, she came up with this on her own.
Once they've left the restaurant, Erza squeezes Mira's hand. "Do you mind transforming into something small? I've got an idea for how we can get there." It helps that Attleton mostly has low roofs compared to some of the other cities - Erza figures that she might as well save some money on transportation.
no subject
Mirajane squeezed Erza's hand back for a moment before slipping into the form of a small fuzzing squirrel, still holding onto Erza's hand, and using it to climb up onto her shoulder like some sort of highly trained pet. "How's this?" Her voice was a bit more squeaky and high pitched as a squirrel, but it was still definitely Mirajane's.
no subject
With that, Erza leaps onto a lamp post, jumping from there to a roof before running and jumping across the rooftops. It might not be a romantic walk through the streets, but it suits Erza just fine. She'll be checking to make sure that Mira's still with her quite often; it would probably put a damper on the date if she fell off.
no subject
"S-So Erza? Do you feel like giving me any hint as to what you're planning for us to do in Nova City? I've never really spent much time there myself." She was feeling a little vulnerable in such a small form, but if there was anyone she trusted it was certainly Erza.

Finally, Erza comes to a stop in front of the Holoplaza. Holographic advertisements show off some of the building's services, and Erza gestures to the building in an overly dramatic fashion. "Here we are!" She gives Mira time to get off before exquipping back into her fancy dress. "Do you have any guesses for what we'll be doing?"
no subject
"Hmm... Well I can't say I know just yet. Will we be seeing some sort of play or movie?" She was just hoping this wasn't going to be some sort of battle against holographic foes. She was familiar with holograms thanks to the welcome letter for Genessia and magical projections back home, but she wasn't sure what sort of thing this facility was used for.
no subject
Once they're inside, Erza heads straight for a console, using her exquip magic to summon a flash drive into her hand. "I had the employees help me to set this up. They had some sort of device to scan my memories, and they used that to make this simulation for tonight. All I have to do is plug this in, and..." A progress bar appears over one of the doors. "Good, it worked." Erza wasn't familiar with this kind of technology, to say the least. Maybe Hibiki from Blue Pegasus could figure it out, but to Erza, it seemed needlessly complicated.
It took a while to load everything, but just as Erza's patience was about to run out, the bar filled up and the door opened. "After you."
Inside, the room in the Holoplaza had shifted into a recreation of the floating islands and green skies of Edolas. It wasn't a complete recreation - they were limited to the few places that Erza had been - but the Fairy Tail mage was pleased with how it turned out.
"Admittedly, I never got to see what the Fairy Tail guild was like here, but I knew you had never seen Edolas before. What do you think?" It's certainly an idea to keep in mind in case Natsu, Happy, Wendy, or Carla show up.
no subject
"E-Erza? This... this is..."
Perhaps Erza knew the profound level of meaning this place had for Mirajane, or perhaps she'd only just scratched the surface, but it was this world that had irrevocably changed Mirajane's life forever. Where her sister Lisanna had disappeared to for two years, making everyone believe she'd died and Mirajane believe she was at fault for her sister's death. This place was like a dream, a nightmare, a fantasy, all wrapped up into one, and she'd had Lisanna describe it in such explicit detail to her she almost felt as if she'd been here herself. Yet seeing the halo projection that Erza had recreated for her?
"Th-thank you... Thank you so much Erza." Mirajane fell to her knees, tears rolling down her cheeks as she tried to maintain her composure. Why? Why was she crying so much? Was it happiness? Sorrow? She couldn't tell... peerhaps it was a mix of both. She was overwhelmed with so many feelings at once she couldn't possibly tell them all apart and she was weeping like a child on the floor of the halo pad.
"I... I always wanted to see it... with my own eyes..." As if the years she'd lost with Lisanna could be made up for just by being able to be there. It hurt so much but there was a closure there she had not felt in some time. Did Erza know the level of pain she felt? Was this just something she thought Mirajane would have fun frolicking in because the place was so different than any world like theirs? She honestly wasn't sure if perhaps Erza knew her better than she'd given her credit for, or perhaps that she even knew her better than she knew herself.
"Oh Erza!" Mirajane tackled Erza in a hug, burying her sobbing face in Erza's shoulder. This? This was one of the greatest gifts she'd been given since her sister's return.
no subject
"Y-You're glad? I didn't realize how--" Her explanation is cut short by Mirajane tackling/hugging her, and rather than try to explain herself, she sticks to comforting her friend instead. Clearly, this was a far more emotional event for Mira than Erza had anticipated, so she wanted to give Mira time to let those emotions out.
Taking a deep breath, she returns the hug, glad to see that things aren't as bad as she thought. "I figured we could take a look around, at least for a little while. Though we should probably avoid the castle, to be on the safe side." This was based on her memories, after all - she wasn't 100% sure how this technology worked, but she'd rather not get dragged into an elaborate duel with her alternate universe counterpart in the middle of this date.
