10 ☼ Video

[Rapunzel was surrounded by a large pile of books, the device she had switched on was focused on the young girl turning the page, eyes focused on the book in front of her.]

Oh! Fascinating. [She turns the page and reads the next page before finally closing the book and placing it to the right of her on top of what appeared to be ten other books. So far all books she had seemed to be balanced.]

I think I got it... But I figured I would just check.

[Rapunzel's focus was now on the device.]

So I've been reading many stories since I've heard about a holiday known as Christmas. I must admit, not exactly a holiday I know much about... or at all really. But I've been reading many books and have acquired much knowledge about the subject.

But there are some things I still don't understand. [She moves to tap her chin lightly. She had been pondering on it since she read the book or story as people are soon about to find out.]

I read a story where there were three ghosts, but I couldn't quite understand why there were ghosts for this holiday? Does that mean there would be ghosts for the other holidays? Did they ever have to haunt anyone else or just this one cranky guy who really could have used some Christmas cheer as they called it?

It was a really fun book to read through, but it just got me wondering these kinds of things.

[She smiled happily before clapping her hands together.]

Oh and also I will be cooking food during December I decided so if you want something, in particular, let me know, friend especially. Which speaking of friends reminds me I've been making so much apple pie that I seem to have a kitchen full. So if you want one I'll deliver it by hand or I'll just do it anyway.

... I'm also unfamiliar with this holiday.

However. Considering the past holiday here - perhaps I should learn more before things begin to happen to us again.

[ Dorothy wasn't certain if it was "fun". But, lest she get stuck in a costume for almost a month again, she figured it'd be best to be proactive. ]

... I will.

Thank you.

When should we meet?

My schedule varies, but I don't need sleep.

[ Being quite literal, here. ]

We could meet tomorrow evening.

[ Not everyone spends their Friday night researching in books, Dorothy. ]

I am an android.

Perhaps it's more accurate to say I do not sleep at all.

[ A pause, while she collects her thoughts. ]

I have been built by humans, out of inorganic and synthetic materials, in order to mimic the appearance of a young human woman.

I am a machine, but I do not require the input or command of humans to operate. I have free will, and I consider myself to be alive.

[ A pause. It's close enough, but she still says - mindful of all the non-humans in Genessia - ]

Perhaps it's better to say, 'a machine who is also a person.'

You did nothing wrong.

[ She was only correcting for the sake of accuracy. It came off as ... cold, at times. ]

Rather. I appreciate that you try to understand.

My world is very different than Genessia, so I am learning new things all of the time.

[ Was it "fun"? It seemed necessary.

But, when she considered it, she recognized that she was enjoying learning about other worlds.

After a pause: ]

Yes.

A Christmas Carol?

The ghosts aren't a traditional part of the holiday, they're just part of the story.

You don't know about Christmas?

[The shock and scandal!]

OK, clearly I'm going to have put you on the list with my friend Xion of 'people to show all of the important stuff about Christmas'. Because Christmas is a lot of fun and no one should be left out.

Generally, the first thing most people do is decorations; you'll probably be seeing a lot of those going up soon.

The centerpiece at Christmas is always the tree though. Usually it's some kind of pine tree; there's even artificial ones for people who don't feel like cutting down a real one. But you bring the tree into your house or apartment, put it in a central location, then hang all kinds of decorations on it. Most everybody puts strings of lights on it, then there's all kinds of baubles, tinsel, garland... you can really go wild with it, if you want. Make it your own.

Haven't quite decided yet; I'll need to go buy some ornaments and things, so I guess I'll just see what strikes me. And since it's my friend Xion's first Christmas, she gets to pick out the tree.

Well she might be if she wasn't so confused. I'll probably have to do a lot of explaining. But I hope she enjoys it, anyway.

I bet she will too. I already know what I'm gonna get her; I just can't say it on the network because she might be able to see it. Don't want to ruin the surprise.

Alright then! So... Christmas dinner is a big thing too. Usually it's a big meal with your friends and family, and the centerpiece is either a ham or some kind of roasted bird. Turkey's the most common, but it can be goose, duck, or even something like pheasant, if you can find it.

Re: [video]

[personal profile] hotheadwarmheart 2018-01-28 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well usually because holidays are time when friends and families come together, and if you've got a lot of people over you want to be able to feed them all. And ham or a big roast bird are usually the centerpieces because they've got a lot of meat on them and were easier to have available during cold weather before refrigerators and things were invented.
