Action

Who: Prompto Argentum and OPEN
Where: Genessia/Attleton
What: A very early run. Or is it late night? Hard to say.
When: November 25th
Warnings: Probably not. Will update if necessary. Nevermind this got dark. Warnings for Episode Prompto and Chapter 13 of FFXV.

The thing Prompto appreciated most was the safety in the night. Certainly, it wasn't perfect, but there were no daemons around, so when he awoke at some godawful hour, he decided that if he was going to run when he did finally get up anyway, at some other insane hour just later in the morning, he may as well cut out the trying to sleep, tossing and turning and shifting around uncomfortably until the sun was starting to peek over the horizon.

Why bother waiting? It was quite possible that if he expended some more energy he would be able to get some more sleep when he came back. That seemed relatively logical, so he got out of bed, pulled on his clothes. It was kind of cold out and he found himself wondering what had happened to his winter clothes.

He hesitates, shifts his weight and reaches into the armiger. He was in luck, at least, a very small favour that it was there, but he wasn't going to worry about it. It still smelled of gunpowder which made him wrinkle his nose as he zipped it up. It definitely needed to be washed, but that could wait until his run was over.

Prompto made his way outside, stretched a few times and started to run, towards Attleton. He'd probably run through Genessia, Attleton and come back, hopefully a good long run to clear his mind.

Working the night shift at the library had its advantages, Takumi thought. It allowed him to monitor the community when it was its most active during the day, and let him plan to be involved in whatever necessary communal events in towns and cities without worries to his work schedule. His sleep was another matter, but. What little he got was still restful - he'd convinced himself he was relatively safe, here.

In addition, he liked walking from work and back in the late afternoon and in the early hours of the morning. The city was near-silent and still, in the ways that only tombs really could be. As if he could find secrets here, written on the walls, in the same way. The people who moved around at night were loud and brilliant in emotion, or silent and furtive like ghosts.

Or. Apparently, running, as if haunted by them.

Takumi had a few minutes to make his decision - in the unoccupied streets, one could see the other man running from quite a ways off. He was carrying several books - he opened one, like he was lost in reading. Bit his lip. Brow furrowed. Thumbed between pages with one hand, absently, a little clumsy.

Just like, a little clumsy, he could then weave in front of the jogging man, bumping into him, "quite accidentally."

"Oh?! Oh! I'm so - I'm sorry!"

Sorry this was the only way he could think of to get this stranger to stop and talk to him, anyway.

"Oh, no, it was my fault," Takumi replied, which was honest enough, "I should've been more careful."

He also bent down, picking up books, looking out of the corner of his eye at the stranger.

Laughing a bit nervously, like he was embarrassed, Takumi said, "This'll teach me to not get caught up in my own head, I guess?"

Now that he had a good look at the stranger, he remembered him from the very brief post made on the datapad. Someone who used strange blasters - guns, right. Guns, to fight the monsters during that holiday.

He doubted someone who was used to battle really lost their sense of surroundings so often, which is why he said sheepishly, "I should know better, really."

"Thanks," Takumi said, taking the books from Prompto, and then does that nervous laugh again.

"It's not like I really know how dangerous this place is or isn't, not really. I could have run into someone ..." and winces, "a lot less understanding."

Takumi allowed his shoulders to relax a little, as in relief. He repeated himself, "Thanks."

He'd reached that conclusion on his own, and also concluded most people were - on the surface, anyway - mostly friendly and nonviolent. If Prompto had realized that, then he must be tense and nervous for other reasons. While he seemed to be relaxing, some of that remained in his frame.

Shifting the books in his arms, he said, "Yeah, that's what everyone's told me so far. Well, except for Everglade, I guess."

"Which is pretty strange?" He grimaced and continues, "Since a wrong turn back home could lead to a mugging, at best."

Yes, what was the man running from? Even people here who took morning jogs - and he'd seen both 'locals' and 'visitors' like him do so, in this city - tended to wait closer to dawn. Most sane people were asleep.

(Hence, really, why Takumi was awake, he supposed.)

Point was, it was not a literal threat which brought Prompto out here.

"So am I," Takumi admitted. "But I've been distracted by the datapad, and work. And the books at work. It's weird - they've got all of this tech here, but still these ancient books?"

He scratched the back of his head. "Only at night? Has to save on electric bill. Unless electric fences wouldn't be enough to keep them out."
bright_imperius: (I see whut u did thar)

[personal profile] bright_imperius 2017-11-27 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
A bit embarrassed, genuinely now, Takumi laughed a little. "Well, I don't mean literally ancient. It's just - where I'm from, any books were ancient. More than centuries old. Most things are recorded on holos, or on devices sort of like the strange datapads we're given when we wake here."

Not that he minded them. It was just bizarre, the mix of technology found here. Fascinating, of course. He wanted to find out why. But bizarre all the same.

"Just light scares them off? Well, that's why they come out at night," Takumi thought aloud, absently. Books in his arms, if he was fifty years older, he'd be a perfect absent-minded professor type. His tone was wistful, when he observed, "And you have a city literally called Insomnia."

"No, don't worry about it," Takumi said, laughing a little too. "I've been learning a lot, and it seems like most worlds are pretty different than the one I'm from. Freshly printed books are a normal thing for most people."

Unlike Prompto, Takumi wasn't overwhelmed by the idea of learning about other worlds. He liked learning about everything.

To wit. He tilted his head a bit. "Who's Noct?"

And grinned, a little cheekily, obviously teasing. "Got an early shift at work, or are you living out some city tradition?"

While Takumi really wanted to ask, he could tell it was a sensitive subject, and put his questions on a shelf for later. He'd get details sooner or later. Best to get the information slowly.

The stutter seemed to return, and he realized he might be getting a little too confident, perhaps poking a bit much. He chuckled a little, as if embarrassed by his curiosity, adjusting the books in his arms.

"Well, now I feel twice as bad for running into you," he joked as if nervously, "if you're friend's here, and I get in trouble for knocking into a king's personal bounty hunter."

Feel free to correct him, Prompto, it's the best way to get information.

"Pretty impressive," Takumi said, and was being mostly genuine. "That's some sort of royal guard, I'm assuming?"

His only goal, really, was to make Prompto feel more comfortable. Maybe he then could get to know him better. Over time, he might be able to figure out what his story was. Learn more about him, his world, his strengths. Perhaps make a new ally.

Yes, it might be completely useless to do so here - but then again, it might not. Takumi wasn't one to turn down resources when they were available.

If nothing else, should his enemies or rivals (really the same thing most of the time) arrive in Genessia, Takumi would prefer people in his corner.

... Right now. He wanted to try to figure out why someone would go running hours before dawn, but he was getting the feeling this wasn't going to be a quickly solved mystery.

He sighed, wistfully, looking upward. "I don't run, myself, not for fun. But I guess it must be kinda nice. Nobody around on these streets except fools like me. Quiet, lets you be alone with your thoughts."

At least, that's what he was enjoying about his walk, before.

[Early to bed and early to rise. Though woefully too early thanks to her past Exorcist training and the weeks at Winter's boot camp.

Instead of wasting her time trying to sleep in, Eleanor decided to go for a walk of her own. With nothing of importance on her person, except for her spear and a small basket, she makes her way down to the Genessia Park. Once there, she occupies a empty bench by the pond, taking out pieces of fabric from the basket and proceeds to sew them together. The sun had risen just high enough that she can see.

And that's when she noticed someone running, momentarily distracted on why he was running. It was enough of a distraction that Eleanor ends up pricking herself with her own sewing needle.]

"Ow! Darn it..."

It was pretty easy to figure out 'a lot' must have included the former king becoming unable to rule - through illness or death, incompetence or banishment - and part of him itched to find out more.

That was pure, selfish curiosity, however. He doubted another world's history would really aid his own. Not unless there was wisdom to be found from mistakes they'd learned from? More questions for later.

Takumi smiled, but he kept it dialed down a bit. No reason to spook the guy considering how nervous he'd seemed - or get his face punched in if it was taken poorly. He still couldn't help but point out, "Well, obviously - it's certainly paid off for you, hasn't it?"

But then he considered, a bit. Cleared his head at three in the morning, huh?

He shifted his books awkwardly, looked down at the embossed and glossy covers. "... Yeah. There's a lot to think about, here. At least, for me. I keep considering what's happening back home."

[She flicks her pricked finger back and forth before kissing it better. It's embarrassing that such a small slip up interrupted something.]

I'm fine. Sorry to interrupt your run. I just... I don't usually see people here at this hour.

[She smiles back. It's good to meet more friendly faces.]

Yes, I suppose so. For me, it's the same old "early to bed, early to rise." A little too early, if you ask me...

[She holds her hand out to him.]

I'm Eleanor.
