To the citizens of Genessia,

Guardian Cassian Andor seems to be suffering from a temporary case of madness or brainwashing, I’m taking over his duties as a Guardian for the time being until this issue is resolved. If you had any questions or concerns, please direct them to my personal contact and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Andor’s condition seems to have affected other individuals across the cities as well. My advice is to not engage in any discussion or argument that could lead to a physical confrontation.

If people are acting weird, doesn't that mean you don't know what's going to set them off?

[ When Cassian Andor reads the message, it feels exactly like a droid-strength punch to the gut. Only that his fingers brush against his throat instead, he can already feel the phantom touch again, expects to feel it for real any moment now...

The Force Choke doesn't come, not yet - maybe Darth Imperius hasn't seen the message yet, maybe he needs to be closer, or maybe he's just plotting something more worse for Cassian to have failed him on the first orders given.

Make them trust you, he had been told, and yes, he had agreed to all demands, but he hadn't truly believed he had reason to worry. It wasn't like the droid would follow up on his threats to evict Cassian from his counterpart's house and position of authority.

This is bad. Punishment will come swift and heavy. Better to swallow his rage to be nursed at a more convenient time, and start some actual damage control, then he might at least be spared some of the Sith's rage. ]

That's a good point. And no, I don't know but so far it seems like more of them act sarcastic and angry without a good reason. Maybe the easiest thing is to avoid interacting with people face to face until we figure out what is happening.

You don't think people who are clearly crankier will react negatively to being ignored?

[ She does find it a little easier to joke around over text. People can't judge you over text, so no one looks at her like a pity case or with disgust. And unlike prime-timeline Emerald, this Emerald hasn't quite gone through the whole 'evil training' regimen, so she just means it light-heartedly instead of genuinely wanting to make people feel bad. Cranky people will react badly no matter what. They think they're entitled to everyone's attention and respect even if they did nothing to deserve it.

Cranky people usually just have a problem they want dealt with but they don't know that's the problem. You figure it out, it's usually easier to deal with them. [ It's gotten her out of a few spots of trouble. She might not be an excellent actress now, but she's got street smarts, and that's part of it. ]

You have experience with that kind of things, I take it. The problem lies that while you try to figure out what's the problem and how to help, they might lash out.

Well, worth testing everything we can, but I'm frankly not betting a lot on 'disease'--at least, probably not the sort you get from a microbe--considering we've been brought here from a list of universes long as your arm and probably a bit of the other, not to mention all the telepathic forces at work. Say our presence here's sustained by an interdimensional telepathic extrapolator, for example, and the address slipped a bit; or if you prefer, we're obviously desynchronized from our native timelines, as well, could be time's a bit turbulent, here, so someone's brought here from one timeline, then when his personal time line here's perturbed, it crosses with an alternate timeline.

[Sure, they're seemingly mutually exclusive theories, and probably just sound like a lot of technobabble, but it sure is issued with confidence as though he knows exactly what he's talking about.]

Do you think that the more new people gets here, the higher the chances this kind of anomalies, to call them something, might happen? If people from different timelines and universes keeps meeting when they shouldn't, that will only disrupt things further.

Not that much. You're the deputy of Attleton and you've got a thing with your Guardian and you've got the most sass of anyone I know.

What can you tell me about the other deputies and guardians? The ones in Nova City, for example?

Nova.. Don't know much about the alien, the other guy is from my world. He's one of the people who committed mass genocide in Vale and spent time hunting me down because I didn't want to swear my soul over to them, but everyone's all BFFs with him now like that doesn't matter.

[Okay, that answer pretty much confirms that Emerald is not quite himself. Frag.]

The alien is named Garrus, he's trustworthy. A bit too serious but that's part of his charm. As for the other, Mercury, I admit I haven't really interacted with him.

Mass genocide? Against who? I don't think he will attack you here but if you need a safe place you can come to the Attleton office.

The city of Vale and the huntsmen academy that protects it. I heard his voice over the recording they broadcast right before I was killed in the massacre. It's hard to think of him as the hero this city needs.

[ But Emerald has always been less forgiving, less trusting. Whether the brats at Beacon forgave him or not doesn't mean a thing to her, she doesn't trust someone to watch her back while she sleeps- trusting someone who worked toward her death isn't happening. ]

I'm not hanging around a bunch of law enforcement. Did Andor tell you to invite me? He's done enough, I'm not his charity case and I definitely don't owe him favors.

Almost certainly completely wrong, compared with this universe with the telepathic barriers and the bridges you call "archways," most of us scarcely count for a sneeze, and if we're talking about anomalous space-time events, well, I'd count for about a thousand of you lot, at the moment. If I had to guess, I'd say something to do with this universe, how we got here. Our anomalies are too... thematic to be space-time events. Space and time, left to their own devices, wouldn't know Halloween from Christmas.

Still an int'resting thought, though, there's a lot we don't yet understand, here, actually, how long've you been here, exactly?

[It might not look like it but Kay is all for a good chat about what if and probabilities. Running multiples scenarios in his head about everything is what droids do best.]

We learn more from mistakes, if you ask me. And we don't know how to how long Genessia has existed. Weiss told me that she got trapped in place where she experienced a year in a matter of a few days.

You're right about the thematic nature but only when it comes to a world similar to Earth. The holidays in my galaxy are different.

I've been living here for 11 months and 7 days. Or if you prefer, 491.040 minutes or the 93,42% of the year. I arrived on January 12th.

I know that this might be temporary and I did try to help him. But I also know that the real Cassian would have wanted, and that's protecting others and the city. He always valued his duty over everything, that includes himself.

Earth year indeed. I don't know why this place makes us celebrate the time it takes a planet we don't live in to revolve around a celestial body that it isn't even in this universe either.

Yes, popular gripe, but much more interesting as a question--why does the Earth year seem to be so important, here?--since this isn't Earth, not properly anyway, although it does seem to try hard to be. ...well, almost certainly isn't, it'd take a lot.

Perhaps whatever force keeps this work functional likes Earth or was from that planet.

We could keep theorizing but the possibility to get real answers is lower than 5%.
