FOR SCIENCE!! [CLOSED]
Who: Spock, Weiss, 11th Doctor, Garrus
Where: The Bay Area
When: Morning of Saturday, December 16, 2017
What: A faked death to study whatever has been bringing people back from the dead.
Warnings: There will be an actual death oops
[Spock has been working on a way to get the bodysnatchers to appear without dropping a body ever since the GSRF ruled out his notion that one of them sacrifice himself (he still doesn't see the big deal; it's not like they stay dead here). It'd taken a few months, but he's managed to create a serum which should lower his metabolic processes to the point that by all normal appearances he'll look dead. No pulse, beyond shallow breathing, all that jazz. Hopefully it will be enough to fool whatever those things are into thinking that he's really dead.
Since the lab lacked Vulcan tissues, he'd had to make do with what he had and adjust the measurements based on what should be the Vulcan equivalents. It's not ideal, but it's the best he could do with what he had on hand. His calculations have told him that can stay alive like that for roughly 24 hours before he dies without intervention, which should be perfect given the fact that it takes 6 hours for the people to arrive and the he's expecting to come back the next day like the dead usually do. Then it's just a matter of popping the antidote before the 24 hours are up to keep him from actually dying. Which is why he's not doing this experiment alone.
He'd gotten approval from Weiss to perform it with himself as the volunteer test subject. He'd chosen the Eleventh Doctor (his closest co-worker at the GSRF) to assist him and left him in charge of the antidote administration. Weiss had called upon Garrus to monitor his vitals with his scanners to make sure that if things go south they can act immediately while also keeping his scanners active for any abnormalities that may occur while barbies are active.
He stands completely calm with them at the Bay as he affixes the nanocam to his shirt stream video to their devices only; they won't be able to follow him into the restoration area. It'll also be good to have an eye on what's going on down there in case things go south if they discover he isn't really dead.
He looks up at the three of them once it's in place, drawing a small case from his pocket and taking out from it the needle containing the drug to put him under.]
Shall we begin?

Shall we begin?

[ Weiss wasn't exactly a scientist, but considering she was going to be responsible for explaining this mess as the founder and Responsible Party here, she at least wanted to be involved.
That said she was standing back so that all the science nerds could do their science thing. ]

Well, you've both already heard my concerns... but he should be up and about before this time tomorrow.
[In particular, what if the Undertakers, as he's been describing them, can detect a falsified state of death? Moreover, what if they're cross about it? He's got about a million question, and how bad an idea this is hinges a lot on the answers to several of them.
On top of all that, how's he supposed to occupy himself for the next six hours while Spock plays dead?!
...still, in for a penny. He's double-checked Spock's work as far as he can based on his own limited knowledge of Vulcan physiology--enough to verify that he couldn't just trade places with him, as well. He claps his hands, rubs them together, and reaches out to take the syringe, flashing a slight smile.]
...so, whenever you're ready.

He taps a few keys on his omni-tool, prepping it to scan the area. It may take six hours for whatever those things are to arrive, but who knows how long it takes for activity to spike. His job here was easy: have a continuous scan going for any sort of fluctuations and keep an eye on Spock's vitals, which he can do no problem with his visor. ]
Sensors are good to go. Ready when you are.

There is always the chance of risk, however the probability of it occurring is minimal. The Doctor may not know the specifics of Vulcan biochemistry, however he concurred with my findings.
If we are all ready, then I will commence. The effects should take effect within one minute. [Having never tested on a Vulcan before, he can't be more specific.]
I will see you all in the morrow.
[He removes the cap from the needle and deftly injects the serum into his arm before returning it to its case. He locates a fairly clear area and lies down - it wouldn't do to get injured on his way down if he remained upright.
By the time he's down, he can slready feel it kicking in. True to his predictions, he's out like a light forty seconds later.]

We're clear. His levels are an exact match with his estimates. [So far so good. Maybe this will work after all.]
[He resumes his attention on the Vulcan. This is his life now. ]
I don't suppose either of you brought anything to pass the time?
[Or are they all just going to stand around staring at him like creepers?]

[ But she's definitely going to wait until Spock is fully down before she goes to do that. Garrus gave the ok so it should be fine, but she would rather stay nearby in case something happens.
She's really not sure what she would be able to do if things did go wrong, but just in case! ]
I'm thinking something outdoors when it warms up a little.

[The Doctor gives Spock a sort of wry smile at that, restraining whatever his objections are, and leaving it at that, keeping near at hand just in case Spock looks like he might tip over faster than intended. Once the Vulcan's down, he whips out his sonic screwdriver, giving Spock a quick once-over scan of his own, extending it with a flick of the wrist and peering at the side. He makes a sort of grudgingly satisfied face, and rolls his eyes a bit, pocketing the screwdriver again, and casually sits down, crossing his legs and clasping his hands on his knee.]
I'm sure we can find something to occupy ourselves, actually, don't think we've exactly been properly introduced, hello, I'm the Doctor, and you're... Garrus, wasn't it?
no subject
[He stares at Spock for a second longer, making sure his reading all looked fine before glancing down at the time lord, eyes drifting down to the pocket where he had just put whatever that thing was. Color him intrigued.]
Yeah, Garrus Vakarian. You got a real name? One that if I mention it to other people they'll know who I'm talking about? There are a lot of doctors on this rock.
no subject
Garrus, you call me "Schnee" half the time when there's four of us here and I'm arguably the only one not still a proper member of the family. I think you can handle calling him Doctor if that's what he wants to be called.
[ She gets out a notebook and a pen and starts writing down ideas. It's just a list of potential locations, themes, things like that. Most of them will get discarded but the best way to start is to just write everything down and then eliminate from there. ]
derp forgot it would be my turn because Spock is out x.x
[He's just a bit smug, there, although his smile grows a bit more sheepish as he glances aside.]
......well. 'cept that I'm sort of here three times, actually, bit complicated, but you can tell them you mean the cool one.
[He brightens a little, tugging at his bow tie indicatively.]
What's it you did before arriving here, then, Garrus, if y'don't mind my asking?
No worries! I haven't been in Garrus' box so I didn't even notice
I did some time with the turian military before becoming a cop where I worked in investigations for a while. Which is why I tend to call people by their last name. If it bothered you that much you could have mentioned it. [He's looking at you, Schnee.] Can't promise it'll change overnight, but I could try to start calling you Weiss if you prefer it.
[Feels weird, though.]
no subject
[ She quirks her eyebrow. ] Don't all of you think you're the "cool" one though? I've met the one who thinks he's some kind of golden god who everyone should trust with their lives without asking any questions, and I've seen the guitar-playing one on the network. [ Look, there's only so many people calling themselves The Doctor, it's easy to figure out who the "three" are, even if she doesn't really get that they're technically sort of the same person but not really because timey-wimey stuff. ]
no subject
Well, it's all right, not the first time someone's struggled a little.
[That is, with the idea of calling him The Doctor. Seems like he needs to walk humans through it step-by-step half the time.
He raises his eyebrows a little at Weiss's critique, though--still amused, but with a bit of an eyeroll.]
Yeah, well, they've got their own ideas, but here I am.
[He spreads his hands to the side like tada, as though it's self-evident and empirically observable that he's the cooler one.]
no subject
Hey, I clarify if the context isn't clear. But if you prefer being called by your first name I can try it... Weiss. [The name is said slowly and if his plating didn't hide his face so well she would be able to see how uncomfortable he was saying it. This goes against all of his military training - it's definitely going to take some getting used to.]
[He looks back at the Doctor skeptically.] You're the cool one... Riiiiiiight. [He's never met the other two, but really, this guy?] Pretty sure guitar beats bowtie. [That tada pose didn't help his case, either.]
no subject
[ Place of love, Garrus. Loving judginess. ]
Did that cause you physical pain to call me Weiss?
[ She shrugs. ] Well, I don't know about cool, but I certainly know which one I prefer. [ The one who's here working with her, of course. Go team! ] Cool is overrated, I prefer bowties and dorks.
[ She's going to take some papers out of a binder and start putting them in sheet protectors, taking some little tabs out of a zip bag she's got..
Organization nerd alert.]How is he doing?
no subject
[The Doctor shuffles in place a little petulantly at the double-teaming, there--although at least Weiss softens it a bit, and he raises his eyebrows with a dubious sort of not-sure-if-that's-a-compliment look before turning his attention back to Garrus.]
Cool is not needing a guitar.
[He rolls his eyes, saying "guitar" in a pejorative tone like only a loser would need a guitar to be cool--then snaps his fingers and points to Weiss like five points to Schnee.]
Because cool is not cool.
[A quick (slightly smug) smile flashed at Garrus as he adjusts his bow tie... then gets out his sonic again, giving Spock a quick scan with it, and extends it with a flick of the wrist, peering at the side.]
...he's fine, well... slightly dead, but no more than he's supposed to be. Yours?
[That to Garrus for confirmation, since he has his own scanners.]
SORRY
If you're getting readings of dead, you're wrong. He has life signs, they're just barely there. Matches up with the report he had written, though, so we're still in the clear.
[He flickers his attention back to Weiss.]
Hey, I know your name is Weiss, it's just... feels weird to say it, I guess. I've been calling people by their ranks or last names for the past ten years or so. [A beat.] Well, except Tali, but Zorah nar Rayya doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. [War's all about efficiency.]
[He looks back at the sonic, still interested in the unknown tech, and decides to bite.]
What is that thing, anyway? [He gives a nod to it just in case it isn't clear what he's talking about.]
this backtag isn't even my final form.. or something....
[The Doctor flips his sonic, catching it and waving it at Garrus scoldingly, then rolls his eyes, not about to interrupt the ongoing conversation. ...he does raise his eyebrows at that question, though.]
Sorry? ...oh, this? Sonic screwdriver.
[...said more than a little bit proudly, as if it should just obviously sound impressive.]
no subject
[ Was he supposed to get pale? She knows that he's supposed to seem dead but... Look she knows the technical readings show he's how he's supposed to be but what if he's about to not be??
Or is Weiss just overworrying? ]
