Kidnapping people to spirit them away from the desert and into freezing cold temperatures without a coat? That's not very hospitable.
[The woman's tone is mild as she holds the communicator with one hand, her other arm wrapped tightly around her middle as she walks with clear crisp clicks from her heels. From what little can be seen from her attire...a bikini top under a light track jacket, the shortest shorts in the world, and open-toed laced heels...she's not dressed for this kind of weather at all.]
The water we had to wade through doesn't really help much either. I suppose it can't be helped.
[Her tone is mild, almost playful. If she really is annoyed by all this, it doesn't seem to show. She's even got a half-smile at her face.]
So what next? Besides coffee and hypothermia~
[Someone get this woman a coat. She's making a beeline for the nearest cafe, so it's entirely possible to meet her in person as well as the communicators.]

action;
She shouldn't really talk considering she doesn't wear shoes. But the young blonde walks on over with a smile, she was going to do her best to help.]
Hello miss, you look cold. I can show you a nice cafe near by to get you warmed up.
action;
That would be just the thing, thank you.
[She clicks off her device and holds it at her side in a neatly manicured hand, since she's severely lacking in pockets.]
What about yourself? Aren't you worried about frostbite with nothing to cover your feet?
action;
[She turned to start walking before looking back for a moment.]
Ass for me, I'm not worried, but at the same time my feet really do not like shoes, so I don't have much of a choice. Better to be comfortable as much as one can.
action;
[A pleasant comment, there's nothing mean about her observation. She's content to follow, her heels clicking on the sidewalk. As long as the cement is salted, she's in no danger of slipping and falling. She'd like to avoid patches of ice, of course.]
Do you often go out of your way to assist the strangers who arrive in this place?
action;
[but it would probably be the only time she would wear shoes. During the warmer months or the okay months, no shoes were a-okay for the young woman. She tapped her chin lightly, puzzling over the question she had just said.]
Honestly, when I can I would be more than willing to help because I know what it was like being new. A little bit of kindness is the least one can offer.
action;
[Mira's walking a little faster, trying to spur this along. She'd rather talk once her teeth aren't chattering. Then she can wax philosophical all she likes about altruism, generosity, and whether a selfless deed is truly selfless.]
[But she's cold, and it's making her cranky.]
How far is this cafe again?
action;
[Rapunzel looked around before pointing over, the cafe was right in front of him.]
It's right there. [She goes to open the door, gesturing for the other to go first.] After you.
action;
[Mira pauses after she steps inside, waiting for Rapunzel to catch up.]
If you don't stand up for yourself, people are just going to walk all over you. That's hardly fair, is it?
action;
[Ultimately it depended on the situation, she will talk back to certain people if needs be, but that was about it. She moved to wait in the line to go to the counter before looking over.]
Well, no. But I haven't been walked over here.
action;
[It's not as if she's encouraging Rapunzel to go rob a newspaper stand, but if someone is being cruel or unfair, sternly pointing it out or exercising the right to say 'no' are better options than meekly going along with it.]
The people here do seem unusually helpful. Perhaps it's that sort of small-town community mindset.
action;
[Okay she didn't actually know what that meant. It wasn't a term she had heard after all. As more people were being served they soon found themselves at the front. Rapunzel looked on over.]
Order what you want.
action;
[She just needs a little something to warm up. She's not sure it's a good idea to over-caffeinate herself, but this should be fine.]
Anyway, people in small towns become accustomed to seeing each other on a more regular basis. It breeds a sense of familiarity, and that leads to a sense of duty or obligation to lend a hand. But in a big city, it's rare to see and recognize the same face, so people tend to keep to themselves.
[Mira sits and crosses her legs.]
What we all have in common here, being spirited away without our permission, tends to generate that same sense of community, doesn't it?
action;
Oh, so the smaller the place the bigger sense of duty and obligation. But does that count when you can talk to people over the devices anytime you want?
[But she nods at the question at least.]
I think it does. I mean we all have the same goal in that aspect.
action;
[Just because people have the option to communicate doesn't mean they will. It isn't as if Mira is planning on answering every single video call that goes out, though she might if the other person seems interesting...or if Mira is incredibly bored.]
Oh, I wouldn't say that. I think it's fair to assume there will be more than a few who aren't keen on going back to where they came from. Or at least they won't be in a rush to return.
[She accepts the latte once it's brought out, sipping on it.]
What about you? Which category do you fall into?
action;
I never thought that people might not be keen on going home. I mean... if they have a reason why they don't want to, I can understand that... But not without knowing them. [She paused as she put her cup down.]
As for me... I don't mind. I mean I have a dream I want to achieve back home but here... I've had much more freedom than I did back home that I like it here... So I guess I'm conflicted. [She looked down at her cup before glancing up again.]
What about you, I know you only arrived today but compared to back home which do you prefer right now?
action;
[She rests her elbow on the table, fingers curled beneath her slim jaw.]
It's different, I'll give it that. And it might be interesting. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. In the end, though, I don't think my opinion will make much of a difference in any case. We're here until we're dismissed, right?
[She raises the cup to her lips and sips.]
Complaining about it won't get me home. It won't make me many friends, either, no one likes a whiner.
action;
[She tilted her head, she didn't really see it as whining.]
If something upsets someone, I think it's okay to complain to someone. It's not a bad thing. I mean sometimes people might not want to hear it, but then you can find those who are okay about it.

[As a result, she's probably staring at him a little too long. She hasn't even decided what sort of expression she should be wearing, which means he gets the default -- a serene sort of curiosity as she holds her arms, head faintly tilted to the side.]
That sounds helpful. Thank you.
[Did she guess right?]
[Video]
Don't be spreadin' nasty rumors 'bout me after, though. 'M a total ass. King Shit. Jus' keep that in mind, even if I treat y' t' a warm meal an' help y' find a damn coat, a'ight?
[He winks.]
Won't take me long t' get there, I's already in the city. Didja find all the shit they give newcomers? There's an envelope full a cash so y' can find a place t' live, an' a necklace y' ain't gonna wanna leave behind. An some pamphlets. Holy shit have they got pamphlets. Li'l cart, next t' the holo 'maid. Bet y' could get a pile a them things t' make a nice li'l fire or somethin' eh? Sheheheheh!
[Video]
[She curls her fingers under her chin thoughtfully. The laughter, at least, she can mark as a sense of joviality. It might take her a little longer to figure him out, but it isn't as if she's especially pressed for time, either here or in her home world. At least this place is interesting.]
[She slips her fingers into her box to dangle the length of opal-studded gold chain.]
This gaudy little thing? All right, I'll keep it close. I do enjoy reading, though. Excessive pamphlets don't bother me.
[She'll stop next to Weiss's hologram to pick up a few and add them to her box, even as she's shivering.]
So do you have a name, or do I have to keep calling you King Shit?
Action
Typically he responds to newcomers with the phone, for he's usually elsewhere yet loves to be first. But now it's his job to meet fresh faces in the flesh! Flesh faces, if you will. The dueling portion of the training turned out to be the most stressful. Pretending to fight all those girls...the horror...
Now it's meet and greet, his favorite! All right, time to shine. He has a towel in one hand and a coat in the other. He doesn't have his void, else he'd have far more, instead of carrying physical things on his physical person like some kind of disgusting normie.
He'll patiently wait until they finish their phone chats, standing outside with a warm smile and an eager attitude. Walmart's got nothin' on this.]
"Hello! Welcome to Genessia! I'm Ted. What's your name?"
Action
"Mira," she answered him, stepping forward. The cold water sloshing over her bare feet caused her great discomfort, but it took a few moments for the emotion to register on her face as a mix between a scowl and a pout.
"At least I can give the hospitality rating a solid score. It's nice of you to come so prepared to meet the new arrivals." At last she stepped out of the shallow waters of the Bay, giving one foot a light flick to shake off the moisture, then the other foot.
It was a little suspicious as well. Was he responsible, then, for her abduction? For his sake, that had better not be true.
Re: Action
"You might be pleased to know you're the only Mira in the world, as far as I know. Am I dealing with a Polish one, or something more Indian?"
Action
"Why would that please me?" she asked, pulling the coat over her shoulders and pushing her hands into the sleeves. "Does a name decrease in value if it's common?" What a strange person. But she could at least zip up the coat and bury her fingers in the pockets. "Neither; I'm American. What about you? I can't say your dress style reminds me of any particular nationality."
Re: Action
What, never heard of Clowntown?He lives to exceed expectations, no matter who or how much it alienates. He finishes soon, shooting up to meet the question promptly.
"While the association between 'common' and 'of low worth' is a tempting one, it's really a matter of convenience. No one's likely to say 'which Mira do you mean'? Well, we do have a Mirajane, but that's not difficult to contend with. Anyway, isn't there some pleasure in being one of a kind?
Ah, I am too! I ask because 'Mira' has, by last count, two meanings, depending on where it comes from. I can't quite figure yours. We can talk while we walk, if you're able enough. Shall we be off to the Commons, or did someone offer you more pleasing fare?"
Action
Now that she had something to block out the cold, she was feeling a bit more amicable, so she was up for a conversation if that's what he wanted.
"I can go to the Commons later. Shouldn't I pick up some basic toiletries first?" she suggested, shifting her box to her other arm. "Unless people are expected to stop practicing basic hygiene when they show up in different worlds."
Re: Action
He has his eyes in a book to look up all of this explicitly, by the way. It might make one worry whether he knows where he's going. He does, having walked the streets so often. It just doesn't look that way.
"...fair point! I did wonder how most got along with money and naught else. Fortunately there's a department store not five minutes away with all the amenities you'll need. We'll stop by then. Anyway, what sort of work did you get up to before you were whisked away?"
If she's that practical, employment would surely be next on her to-do. Ted secretly hopes she buys a lot of things so he can chivalrously carry them all.
Action
She gestured faintly with a well-manicured hand, her nails painted with an elegant black sheen. "It paid well, provided room and board, and it sounded like fun. But...I suppose I'll have to find some line of work here, if they didn't bother to give me access to my bank account."
Mira wondered where he got the book. Was he just carrying it in his back pocket all this time?
"What about you?"
Re: Action
"Goodness! That sounds as interesting as it does desperate! Was there, ah, any pressing need to colonize Mars? Did Earth get into trouble? Overpopulate, perhaps?"
You can tell he's interested because he's talking very fast.
"Hold on, "sounded"? You mean you didn't get to participate after all?"
He is vicariously bummed for her if so. As for his own work.
"Oh, just, you know, odd jobs. Nothing glamorous. Dull work, honestly, and I'd hate to dull you with its discussion. Your own sounds much more novel."
Action
"Oh no, I was as avid a participant as anyone else," Mira waved her hand dismissively. "One of nine. Ten, if you count the dog." And the boy with the giant helmet, but he hadn't been an initial member of the study as far as she knew.
She slipped her hands back into the pockets of her coat, relishing the warmth as they moved into the store. Mira stood for a moment, contemplating the need for a cart or a hand basket. She chose the latter.
"Well, of the nine of us, six wound up dead. I'm not sure I'd call it glamorous, but as one of the survivors, it's not something I'd complain about either."
Re: Action
He follows behind, on the lookout himself for any good deals today. Or would, had death not made an appearance. Her nonchalance made it more disturbing still.
"Goodness," he said with a plaintive gasp. "Fancy getting funding after that. What on earth happened?"
Morbidity, to his chagrin, never presented much obstacle to curiosity. He wonders if some of her dead test-mates might make appearances soon. Wouldn't be the first time the dead awoke in Genessia.
Action
Happiness was the right emotion to display, right? Weren't people supposed to be happy that they didn't die?
"Needless to say, the bit about being a colonization experiment was just a ruse. No one would have signed up for a social experiment where 66% of the attendees were required to die."
Re: Action
He'll just assume she's...very, very optimistic, and isn't one to cry over spilled milk. At least that makes her difficult to offend.
"What a horrid experiment; I'm sorry you had to go through with it. Goodness, I hope that's not the intent here</i." At times, Genessia did seem like a social experiment all its own. "Don't suppose you know what the--I hesitate to call them researchers--wanted to know so badly?"
