[Having a doll legion has it's advantages in getting ready for literally anything. All though, when Alice flew to the entrance to the archway connecting Fayren and the cavernous road leading to the Palace of the Earth Spirits, she only had Shanghai and Hourai, her two helper dolls.

Alice awaits on the Chireiden side of the archway for Mavis's arrival and smiles kindly when the Fairy Tail leader appeared, right on time as stated.]

Ah, there you are. Before we begin, I'm sure you have questions about me or my magic?

[Mavis bows politely in greeting.] Hi, Alice. Thanks for agreeing to this meeting.

Actually, I do. How does your magic connect you to your dolls exactly?

[Alice returns the greeting with her dolls doing a curtsy.

Upon Mavis's question, the puppeteer holds up her free hand, as the other one holds the Grimoire of Alice. On Alice's fingers where little identical rings. She focused her magic, and a invisible strings turned visible for a moment.]

Magic strings. So long as they remain connected, the dolls are semi-autonomous and under my control. Only I can cut the strings, so it's impossible for anyone to take control.

And if they tried, well... It won't be a happy ending.

[The two helper dolls attempted to convey what will happen by putting their tiny hands together, and draw a blooming motion over their heads.]

How far from your dolls can you stand while still being able to control them?

And since you say they are 'semi-autonomous', what kind of decisions can they make or actions can they take on their own?

Their thought patterns are all my own. Everything you see, everything they do, is all me.

They can do anything and everything, except for vocalising words.

[The blue dress doll floats over to Mavis. And it apparently starts speaking!]

Unless it's through ventriloquism.

[The blue Shanghai doll floats back to Alice as she continues.]

They can all act independently or in groups thanks to my doll manipulation magic. They can use weapons like swords, shields, bows and spears. They can make and pour tea, clean up snow, do laundry, repair rooftops, cook meals, just about anything you or I are capable of doing.

I see. [Mavis looks up at the blue dress doll as she floats closer to her and her eyes widen a bit as she speaks up. Then she chuckles softly.] Ventriloquism, of course. That makes sense.

They're very useful, without a doubt.

[Mavis glances at the Grimoire.] That's related to your magic too, isn't it?

[Alice chuckles.]

It is. I've had it every since I was little. It contains incredible magic.

[It's only a coincidence that it's named The Grimoire of Alice.]

I keep it locked up tight, however. I don't like fighting at my full strength.

[Largely because she prefers strategy instead of overwhelming power.]

[Mavis is studying the Grimoire with even closer attention now.]

Do you know where it comes from? Who wrote it?

[Mavis and Alice have that in common: they prefer strategy to brutal force.]

Did you ever have to? Fight at your full strength, I mean.

It came from Pandaemonium. The author, however, is unknown.

[Aka, the capital of Makai. Or "Hell" to the Western world.]

[The name 'Pandaemonium' sounds vaguely familiar and Mavis makes a mental note to look it up later.]

Excellent. Let's begin.

[Alice takes off, going airborne, gathering a distance between herself and Mavis. If the guild leader wants to see Alice's colorful magic, she needs to be able to see all of it.

Alice pulls cards from inside the locked book, and began performing her magic.

None of the magic danmaku was ever aimed at Mavis, so she doesn't have to worry about dodging. She can just stand back and watch the fireworks. This is why Alice is called the Seven-Coloured Puppeteer.]

[Card magic? Mavis had not been expecting that.

As the 'fireworks' begin, Mavis doesn't even try to dodge. It's like she knows the magic is not directed at her. She observes the demonstration in silence, trying to understand the exact nature of the magic she's beeing shown and what it can do.]

[Of course, Alice also has her own combat style if any enemies were to get too close. But there's no need to show that off.

Alice drifted back to her original spot as soon as she used up the spellcards. She giggled at Mavis's expression.]

You look like I left you with more questions than answers.

[Mavis smiles.] Can you blame me? Your magic is quite uncommon.

It looks like Card Magic and, at the same time, it seems like your firing colorful bullets with impressive precision.

One has to wonder how it works, indeed.

It is. It's a game called Danmaku. It's a less violent way for Gensokyo residents to settle disputes.

Of course, there's always the option to not play by the rules.

[Which is why she has weaponized dolls. Just in case anything occurs where she can't afford to play nice. Like the last barrier breach.]
