[when the feed turns on, Cloud's no longer sitting in an empty, plain room. he'd moved out of there a while back and into a cheap apartment in Genessia. no, instead you'll find that the blond is surrounded by books at the library, some bits and pieces of loose leaf paper with notes scribbled on them strewn about. when he wasn't working or training, this was what Cloud spent most of his time doing these days. searching for answers and learning more about this world.

subarchways... they caught his eye amidst everything that kept throwing him for a loop. with the sacrifice of something important to him, he could unveil a piece of his world, however superficial it was. admittedly, the thought disturbed him. even if it was his choice on what he lost... to be honest, both the good and the bad memories were what made him who he was. if he forgot something, would he lose a piece of who he was? no; there was no way he was going down that road again. coffee in hand, Cloud's taking a break from the various books surrounding him as he plans on staying a little late. his gaze fixes onto the camera as he looks tired, but not unwell. a small smile crosses his lips as he tries to find the right words.]

Guess this is some kind of late catch all, but...thanks for the Christmas presents.

[they'd know who they are. Cloud was going to eventually make it up to those that he missed... he was still extremely new to this, after all. but more importantly, as his smile fades—]

Did anyone else get something a few days ago from "Santa Claus"? [Ted talked about him] How'd they know to take something from my home? Anyone got any clue?

[shot in the dark, he supposed. but there was another reason why he didn't spend as much time at home anymore. he couldn't just throw it away, but for some reason it ate away at Cloud looking at his gift from Santa. not that he'd show it; he was just the same old calm delivery boy for a bakery here. that was everything he wanted to ask for now. some small talk as he skims through books while staying warm inside wasn't so bad. the video ends]

[It made her wonder how they even got there in the first place, which made her wonder if they could leave here in order to do that and even travel worlds in which case, she wondered how.]

I mean, they must have done something to get those things... But I don't really know much to give my thoughts.

[as Winry talks, Cloud's eyes are wandering down to the pages in front of him, flipping through the notes he's taken for himself. he's listening though, evident enough by the fact he turns back up to the camera at her.]

Mhm; I think everyone did, though...well, the name was Santa, but he's usually discriminate on the basis of behavior.

[i.e. some real villains got a gift too so hell if he knows what joker is pretending to be Santa]

[weird. unless Cloud was being judged super hard for what he did in AVALANCHE, he imagines he'd be on the 'good list' if there even was one. but Ted brings up a good point. he pats down some papers and organizes them.]

This is my first Christmas, so... [he didn't realize he could ask for things, let alone from someone who called themselves "Santa Claus". the question, however, gives him reason to pause as he takes a sip of his coffee.] ...mm. Just something to keep by my desk.

I don't even have a machine to watch it on. Not that I'd want to...

Can't say it was bad. [and if Cloud was upset about what he got or how he was feeling? he sure as heck didn't show it. he had far more important things to do.]

[he blinks in surprise at the VHS that Faye presents. he was from a completely different world from her, or anyone else here. but there were some commonalities at least. he at least knew what that was.]

You think someone's even got a VCR kicking around somewhere? That's old tech.

Something like that. [the second those words slip out of his mouth, Cloud's almost too quick to correct himself. he may not have liked himself in that photograph, but... that was still Tifa, Marlene and Denzel. how could he even think something like that?] I mean, it's fine, it's just...

[damn it. probably wasn't a good idea to even bring it up. instead, he clears his throat]

Hope to see them again soon. [he says as he ignores his worries to think about getting back]

Heh, no, no I understand perfectly. Loving and hurting and how each increases the other. I ah, hope so too.

[He wishes he could agree less reservedly. Still, homesickness, nostalgia, and all the rest...he swears he's seen that weaken and even destroy people, sometimes. There must be a way to hold on to past loves without having them tempt or distort. If he only knew what. But he can't, so he'll go with his usual standby: jokes]

[loving and hurting, huh? confused as he felt at times here, Cloud couldn't help but wonder just how far it would go. he's come too far to let it keep him down. but...he's tired. it was true that though he was tired, he wasn't unwell. ...but for how long?]

This is my first Santa experience, so... [he lightly huffs with a lazy, amused smirk] I take it the guy's usually on the up and up?

I did.

[Belle is sitting on her bed at home when she replies back to Cloud. True to her character, there are books littered around her on the bed spread and then many more stacked on the nightstand. Some are bought and some are borrowed from the library.]

I was given something of mine from when I was a baby.

[She holds up a rose shaped baby rattle.]

My mother gave this to me. It's the only thing that I have that she's given me. I'm not sure... how he got it but I am happy to see it.

Hah, saints usually are. At least, the gifts he brings are usually more...materialistic, I suppose. Entertaining. Favorite foods, things like that. Reaching so far back and so sentimentally is a novelty for me too. Goodness, so old and never experienced Santa properly? Well, I'm glad yours was pleasant, if tender.

[Cloud's seen Belle from time to time at the Library enough that...well, yeah, that scene doesn't surprise him in the slightest. he gives her his undivided attention all the, surprised when Belle holds up the baby rattle. hearing that she's happy to have received it almost makes him feel bad about his confliction about his own gift.]

Sounds like Santa really went for the whole 'sentimental' thing.

[the only thing Cloud has left of his mother are in his memories. but...that was alright. it had to be alright. to see someone value their family so much puts a small smile across the blond's lips]

Make sure to keep it safe.

Wouldn't have minded seeing my old bike outside. ...or my stash of Materia. That could come in handy if things go south.

[he blinks then, realizing with wider eyes,]

*She groans unhappily and flops back on her sofa, lifting her phone above her to blink at him from a different angle. And yes, he would have seen her there, though the distinct lack of interest she got had been quite embarrassing...*

But if hanging out in libraries is your thing, I guess this place isn't too bad.

[his lips half-quirk up when she flops back on the sofa. Cloud had donated at the event, but he gave away all of his own tickets. he was, in his own words, "Not interested." even if he played up his part since someone signed him up.] Look at you. Got a leg up on me at least.

[he lightly shakes his head]

It's quiet. But... I'm more into looking into figuring out more about this world.
