You could just make a campfire if you wanted some cooked food. Let a fire burn in a garbage can for a while to kill off the germs and that's useful too, if you don't have anything to keep it in, then you can do just about anything that'll stay on a skewer. Also, you should line your sleeping bag with newspaper if the power goes out. It'll insulate it.
Smaller bottles or cans for the water, too. The gallons are fine, but if you run short or it goes on longer than expected, smaller containers you can put next to a fire and melt the snow in them. You won't run out of water that way, and you can keep yourself warm.
