[Yang has set her communicator on a shelf at the store, so she can film herself with her grocery cart of supplies.]
Hey guys! Seems like some people aren't quite sure what to expect with the blizzard the papers warned about, so I thought I'd show you what kind of supplies you should pick up if you don't have them already. First, figure out how many people are going to bunker down with you, and then buy enough supplies for everyone plus one. Just in case there's a straggler that shows up unexpectedly, it's better to have more than not enough!
Pick up food that you can eat without having to cook it, things like dried jerky, protein bars, peanut butter sandwiches...stuff like that. If a storm is bad enough, it can knock out the power, so you can't rely on your fridge. I'd hold off on buying any groceries that might need to stay cold since there's a chance they might spoil.
...Unless you want to put them in the basement or someplace that's going to be cold, I guess. Anyway...
[She shrugs with a toothy grin.]
You'll also want a gallon of water per person per day, just in case the pipes freeze. You can fill your bathtub with extra water you can use for washing and cleaning, too. Make sure you've got a really good sleeping bag that'll keep in your body heat, and something warm for your head too.
[She holds up a knit cap from her cart and a rolled up sleeping bag.]
Get your laundry done today so you have clean clothes to wear! You'll probably want to layer up on socks and sweatshirts. Also make sure you've got flashlights, and LOTS of extra batteries. Your first aid kit should be stocked up too with bandages, antiseptics, medicine, and pain relievers. Ooh, and these are cool too!
[Yang leans into the cart and scoops up a few square, flat, silvery packages.]
These are hand-warmers! They've got a chemical inside that generates heat when you bend the pack. It's not going to be a LOT of heat, but it's great for hands or feet, since they tend to get cold the fastest. Having a pack of cards and some board games on hand will help pass the time and keep you from being bored. ...So maybe they're...BORED games... snnnrrkkk...
[Yang plz.]
Finally, make sure you've got a roll of weather-seal tape. I mean, if you get the paper on a regular basis you should have this already...
[She rolls her eyes. Darn paperboy.]
But just in case a window gets broken, you'll want some of this on hand to keep the heat in and the cold out.
Those are the essentials! Stay safe and warm, and keep your communicators close to call for help if you need it!

It looks like your building might not be the safest place to live when the blizzard hits. We've got room here at our apartment if you want to come over. I don't know the other tenants who live up there like you do, but if you know 'em, go ahead and extend the invitation to them too.
Let me know if there's any food or drinks you want me to stock up on! Be careful out there!
[She grins with an informal two-finger salute.]

Hey, Mom. Not sure what your living situation is right now, but I'm guessing you're not the type who's going to rent out a room at the inn. Why don't you come stay at my place until the storm blows over? Regency's one of the nicer places, so we probably won't lose power. Whaddya say?

[She's tossing in a few boxes of cereal bars. Now that the PSA is over, she's got to finish her shopping for real.]
What about you, have you found a decent apartment to live in yet?
Yeah, I moved into Stone Ridge down on Dogwood Ave. It's cozy enough.

[Once she figures out what he does and doesn't have already, anyway, since she wouldn't want to wind up getting him, say, double toasters or something.]
Good neighbors?

[that's as good of a "sure thing" as any. he'll have to make sure that it's prepped. ...and that he cleans up his desk and table which are completely littered with coffee cups, books and notes everywhere.]
Mm. [he nods] Seems like it. I run into Belle at the library from time to time.

You seem well-prepared for it. Not bad.
[Well, it's not actually an acceptance but. There's a compliment??]

So are you gonna come over? I'm picking up supplies at the store right now, want to make sure I've got enough.
no subject
I might as well. If only to see what kind of survival skills you've learned.
[It's not like she wants to or anything, Yang.]

Smaller bottles or cans for the water, too. The gallons are fine, but if you run short or it goes on longer than expected, smaller containers you can put next to a fire and melt the snow in them. You won't run out of water that way, and you can keep yourself warm.
[ LOOK THIS IS THE MOST HELPFUL SHE'S EVER TRIED TO BE. She's also wearing Cassian's parka and it is huge on her so she probably looks ridiculous but damn stuff from a guy who grew up on a snow planet is warm.
She decidedly doesn't answer whether she's coming or not, though. But at least she's playing nice??? ]

[She leans her arm on the handle of her grocery cart. Yang almost asks how she learned about all this, but stops herself. That might be a little too personal, since all of these survival tips kind of indicate the source might be something pretty sad. So instead she grins.]
Maybe I should've left the supplies PSA to you, you know your stuff.
private to yang and merc
I don't want to see what Merc would get like if he was all mopey over you freezing to death, it sounds like a pain in the ass to deal with. Everyone else can freeze for all I care.
[ Which she would probably prove wrong once the blizzard actually started, but. Whatever. ]

...So...you guys aren't coming, then?
private to yang and merc
[ She usually goes to him when she needs a place to hang out when she needs to get away from people who know where she lives. ]
I don't speak for Merc, though. If he's not busy doing Guardian things, I'm sure he'll be there.

[She grins, shrugging her shoulders.]
I wouldn't say I'm big on planning, but I am a big sister. I try to look after you guys, and the people I care about. You need anything while I'm out?

Thank you, miss!

I'm gathering up a lot of supplies to help people if they're stranded - I work at the library, figured it was a good spot if they couldn't find the shelters, it's a big building.
[ Sheepish smile ]
Your tech is a lot different than what I'm used to - I'll need to pick up those hand-warmers, I didn't know if you'd have anything like that.
[ Video ]
So what kind of tech are you used to? Less or more?

But yeah. This was a solid list.

Most people forget 'bout the clothes.

[She grins.]
Thanks! Sounds like you know your stuff too.
