While it may be difficult to believe, 'palling around' appears to be the best course of action at the moment. Productively, of course.

Not that difficult. Especially when it's the only course of action. But it makes for an irritating story when the fantastic intrudes suddenly upon the mundane and then disappears back into it without cause or explanation. Even for me.

Deputy Guardian... what do you guard against, exactly? Excitable greenhorns who think they can get back to their business by burning the place down?

[She's quick to suggest a motive for Satsuki making an official call and prosaic recommendation.]

I understand all too well.

I believe that would be more of a problem for Genessia City's Guardian. That is where all Newcomers first arrive, after all. Still, that is perhaps the best answer.

[She shakes her head.]

My goals are more oriented toward encouraging productivity. In short, I have found Genessia to be far too accommodating toward lazy behavior.

[She just chuckles at that.] And someone needs to crack the whip at our backs? There's something to be said for making one's own living, but what does it matter to you if someone can live without effort?

This isn't my school and you aren't my student. And don't be so defensive. If you set yourself over strangers who have no reason to accept it you should expect to be questioned.

I hold no issue with being questioned. But what you demonstrated was quite obviously snarky commentary in the guise of questions. I am not a fool.

But I assure you I am not being defensive; merely disappointed.

You say that but you didn't answer. If you can't talk to anyone who you think is taking issue with your ideas, you aren't open to it at all.

I do not answer because it is a loaded question. If you truly believe answering that will lead to an open discussion, I do not know what to tell you.

If I asked you that very same question, what would your answer be?

It doesn't matter to me if people can live without effort. It's a trite and boring existence, but if people can use their time freely and fulfill a few small desires that's better than they'd have been able to hope for in many times.

[Satsuki gives a small nod of her head.]

Now, what if those same people are the key to discovering a way home?

That would answer the question.

I wonder why you think that's the case, though? It can't be obvious, or they'd already be following your lead.

[Does it? Well then that was simpler than she had expected- perhaps she did jump the gun after all; she only has herself to blame even if it was a particularly rough month for getting people on board.]

And that is where the problem lies, it is not obvious; it is unobvious to the point of infathomable. Despite weeks of reasearch I have only managed to discover this through unconventional means.

[Which is only partially true, but not bending the truth would defeat the purpose.]

And so I am going through with it in this way.

It came to me in a dream, via a foreign spirit. It revealed my path.

Once I had put the pieces together, however, it all became clear. The way to reveal the unknown is through sparking the inspiration that would result in it to become known.

And so I have started a project that should provide this result; a school.

Hoh. It's been a while since I've spoken to a prophet.

Still, it always seems to wind up being a school somehow, lately...

Seeing as the lot of us come from various cultures and worlds, it would be beneficial to have everyone regularly interacting anyway. I believe it is a plan with multiple layers, myself.

Don't mistake me. Most prophets are frauds or insane. That's my experience. But they're also the sort of visionaries who on rare occasion can change the world. And I agree with your principle. It is better that they grow used to each other.

I agree completely. There is zero doubt that I would be laughed right out of Genessia if I revealed such an experience to the masses.

But that is fine, a direct approach is more my style anyway, and one I am most comfortable with.

You say you've met various prophets. That must be quite the school you teach in.

It was ordinary. Not to mention provincial. Most of my experience comes from elsewhere.

Is there anything else you wish to ask about? Genessia in some ways is not a very complex world, but to a newcomer it can be rather overwhelming.

Is there anything you do know about it? Why it exists, the extent to which we can affect it, its relationship with the outside world?

If you have any practical advice, I'll hear it, but I'm more interested in its large structure. History and law and nature.

I am uncertain how to answer that aside from the obvious: for us to be here. I believe Genessia has been arranged in a manner for us to be the most comfortable- The sub-cities are split up into more specialized environments.

I have visited the museums and the libraries, but had no success in discovering any settlements before denizen arrival. If such information exists, I have not discovered it.

It's relationship to our world, it is widely believed that our world's time has either been frozen or slowed to such an extent that it merely appears frozen. The only proof there is that those who have been lucky to head home end up returning at their near-exact point of their disappearance.

As for the extent to which we can affect it. Well, I intend to discover the answer to that as well.

And finally, as for practical advice, there is little I can give. Genessia is absurdly accommodating to the point that all you really need to do is find work.

I meant who created it and what purpose we serve. But it sounds like you don't know much.

Still, expecting me to work... [Like she's just another human who has to trade her labor for her bread. But she's way too used to being Yukihime the village teacher to say that out loud.]

You sound like you're the only person who'd need a teacher.

[Her frown increases.]

Amusing, [Though she's hardly laughing.] coming from someone who cannot remember what we discussed in the last ten minutes.

[Satsuki is taken aback by the response. She raises a finger to her cheek, which she scritches as the slightest bit of red forms in her cheeks.]

There are a number of youth that are not particularly interested in being taught, no, but there are others that are. One other in particular that is helping to get things organized.

I don't mind but if you're trying to get people to follow you you need to be able to tolerate people who talk back to you, let alone those you misunderstand.

And if you want to talk about how it's going I'd like to hear whether you can hire me or not first.

I most certainly can; in fact I have hired a couple of denizen teachers already and am in negotiation with a couple others.

[For now, she'll hide the fact that Fairy Tail also happens to plan to open a school.]

Well. This was easier than I was expecting. [Mostly for her, she means. Holding a job is far from her experience and this is about the only role of that sort she's used to.]

A pleasure, Yukihime. The original date for the construction's completion was the end of June, but there have been some delays. For now I would guess five weeks from today. I also plan to arrange a teachers meeting before doors open.

The money you have been provided should hold you over until then if not more, assuming you do not spend too much.

Do you have any kind of organization? A curriculum? Or are we free to conduct our classes as we see fit?

[She certainly doesn't sound like she minds the idea. She could let things slide for appearances if she had to but she was never really going to consider anyone else her boss.]

At current the organization consists of three persons: myself, my partner Weiss, and the founder Doctor Albert Wily. It is not exclusive, I will accept anyone who can provide valuable suggestions and willing to work.

We plan to place together a curriculum the moment the results of our survey are tallied. However I am completely open to hearing out your particular specialization in particular, though it may be a little late to add to the list.

I taught in a small village; I don't have a specialty. I'd say I know history best but I don't think that matters much here.

The doctor is the guardian you're deputy to, then?

Nova City is certainly no small village. Is that sort of atmosphere one you prefer?

I suppose I've come to enjoy it over the last few years. Those places where people still own and work their own land have a certain charm. And you can eat watermelons.

But I've lived in many places. Another change won't be difficult.
