[It had been a little more than a week before Hikari appeared on the network again. This time, however, was a notable improvement. Her hair looked freshly washed, face scrubbed. She had on weather-appropriate clothing, and her immediate surroundings indicated she was indoors. Specifically, in the apartment she'd been sharing with her friends. Currently, she was sitting on the couch, half wrapped in a thick blanket.]
[There was still no smile, but her eyes no longer looked dead.]
I...know I need to find a job. [The thought sounded so foreign to her, even now. Back home, she wouldn't have been old enough. No middle school would grant permission for a student to work part-time without extenuating family circumstances, and she'd never had any of those.] My friends have been wonderful. Takeru especially. But I know I can't expect them to keep taking care of me, and not help them out in return.
[A pause. Her words were slow, but she still needed an extra second to gather more thoughts. In that time, she glanced around as if nervous about getting caught even making the post at all. The last thing she wanted was for them to insist that she was fine and not a burden at all. Even if she felt like she was. To a degree.]
I can take pictures. Is...that something I could do? [She genuinely had no idea] I like animals. Especially cats. I could cook a little. Or help out around the schools, maybe. If it's not something I know how to do, I promise to try my best and learn

[It was amazing how strongly one could feel the cold when they were aware enough to; Hikari gave a slightly shiver as another breeze hit the back of her neck, pulling the warm scarf a little tighter.]
[One could only sleep so much. Especially once she woke up and realized that she had very little idea of where she was. Oh, her friends had filled her in on the basics. She knew the names of a few places now. Events going on. Recent weather patterns. Adequate clothing had been acquired, and her stomach had rarely gone more than a minimal amount of time empty. But those were only the bare minimum requirements for survival. Her heart ached and her chest grew tight whenever she thought about it, but wallowing was doing nobody any good.]
[So she decided to venture out. Get a good look at a place she only barely remembered arriving in. The streets, the shops, the people...]
[But, first and foremost, the ice cream parlor. Because, even in mourning, HIkari knew where her priorities lay.]
