[It had been a little more than a week before Hikari appeared on the network again. This time, however, was a notable improvement. Her hair looked freshly washed, face scrubbed. She had on weather-appropriate clothing, and her immediate surroundings indicated she was indoors. Specifically, in the apartment she'd been sharing with her friends. Currently, she was sitting on the couch, half wrapped in a thick blanket.]
[There was still no smile, but her eyes no longer looked dead.]
I...know I need to find a job. [The thought sounded so foreign to her, even now. Back home, she wouldn't have been old enough. No middle school would grant permission for a student to work part-time without extenuating family circumstances, and she'd never had any of those.] My friends have been wonderful. Takeru especially. But I know I can't expect them to keep taking care of me, and not help them out in return.
[A pause. Her words were slow, but she still needed an extra second to gather more thoughts. In that time, she glanced around as if nervous about getting caught even making the post at all. The last thing she wanted was for them to insist that she was fine and not a burden at all. Even if she felt like she was. To a degree.]
I can take pictures. Is...that something I could do? [She genuinely had no idea] I like animals. Especially cats. I could cook a little. Or help out around the schools, maybe. If it's not something I know how to do, I promise to try my best and learn
[ACTION]
[It was amazing how strongly one could feel the cold when they were aware enough to; Hikari gave a slightly shiver as another breeze hit the back of her neck, pulling the warm scarf a little tighter.]
[One could only sleep so much. Especially once she woke up and realized that she had very little idea of where she was. Oh, her friends had filled her in on the basics. She knew the names of a few places now. Events going on. Recent weather patterns. Adequate clothing had been acquired, and her stomach had rarely gone more than a minimal amount of time empty. But those were only the bare minimum requirements for survival. Her heart ached and her chest grew tight whenever she thought about it, but wallowing was doing nobody any good.]
[So she decided to venture out. Get a good look at a place she only barely remembered arriving in. The streets, the shops, the people...]
[But, first and foremost, the ice cream parlor. Because, even in mourning, HIkari knew where her priorities lay.]

you should apply at Flash Bandits. I'm pretty sure we're still hiring!
[Text]
That would be perfect.
How do I apply?
[Text]
There's a lot of great equipment here.
[Text]
I'm 14.
Is that okay?

[Text]
The rules seem different here.
[Text]
Definitely talk to him.
[Text]
What's his name?

Well, Quicksilv--er, Prompto, just made a suggestion. Diners are always hiring, of course, and they're not picky about who. Nova City, I recall, was looking for teacher's aides too. You'd be surprised how easy work is to come by, here, they're really very lax.
Video
I didn't mean it like that. Honest.
[Less her words and actions inadvertently horrify any of them. That was the last thing she wanted.]
Re: Video
No, no of course not. Heh, believe me, I'm well aware of the dance and tangle of courtesies. Wanting to help those who help you and all the complication of give and take. Just meant to say that I doubt any you mention are all that troubled, that's all.

Are you interested in photography too?

[He looks embarrassed already, since people have laughed at him for this fear before.]
... Is it true that cameras can steal your soul?
no subject
Who...told you that?
no subject
[He's leaving out some details on purpose. Like how he's just a wandering spirit, and spirits like him are afraid of cameras like humans fear a boogeyman under their bed.]
I've never had my picture taken, so I don't know if it's true.
no subject
[...in short, she would have given a story like that the benefit of the doubt.]
Oh.
[What was a nice way of saying 'your friend was probably just messing with you'?]
I've taken lots of pictures before. Mostly of my friends. They all seem fine.
no subject
[That's to say, wow he feels silly now.]
Photography must be hard, though. Cameras have so many buttons that do so many things.
[Excuse him for being mystified by the dumbest little things. Take into account that he has been afraid to touch a camera and only staring from a distance.]
What do you do with the pictures of your friends?

action;
Tugging his hat down slightly, making sure it was firmly pressed on his head he had started to make his way back home, a few things in his backpack as he had been planning to head on home. However, he soon found himself stopping by the ice cream parlor when he was sure he spotted a familiar face. After a moment or two of pause, he realized it was.
He moved to walk in, walking up toward her.]
It's nice to see you out and about.
action;
[Her eyes first wandered up to the hat. Also not surprised. A glance, really, because he'd been wearing so many different styles recently that she wondered where he was keeping them all. He was also wearing a backpack, she noted, and briefly wondered what he had been up to before stopping for ice cream.]
I wanted to see what this world was like.
Then I got hungry.
[Her lips almost twitched upward in hints of a smile.]
action;
[Minus the fact it was still winter, but hey that doesn't stop people having ice cream does it? Plus she seemed like she could be happy about it at least, which made the young man happy and all was well.]
So have you made your final choice? I must warn you, that choice will be locked in when you say it out loud, so think carefully.
action;
[The reply came a little too quickly...and a little too softly...to be a true answer. More like a memory brought about by the moment. One she quickly shoved to the back of her mind as she stepped forward, glancing up at the menu selection before reaching into her pocket to pull out a bit of money; she still had a bit of her initial stipend left, even though her official job had yet to start.]
There's a banana chocolate flavor...I might try that one.
action;
Good choice. It sounds like it should be nice. I'm sure you'll like it.
action;
Would you like one? My treat.
[She owed him so much, buying him a single ice cream seemed like such a small price to pay in return.]
action;
[He figured that would be a good thing in general even if it's a small amount of time. It was still something and it was enough to make him happy.]
