[For the past week, Shi has been visiting the library daily. And he's not your typical library customer. He certainly comes in and browses books, like a normal person... But instead of reading them at a table, he has been checking them out. Almost normal. Until you count that he then goes and sits in the snow, a few yards away, until he's read what he wants. Then he returns the book and repeats the process. 

To say the least, he probably looks cold and a bit stupid every day. Someone is too shy to use the library tables uninvited.]

Good afternoon, everyone. I'm sorry to bother you. I'd like to make the most of my life here, so I have a few questions.

First, uh. Does anyone here know anything about 'spirits?' Or, um... [He can be seen looking down at a piece of paper he's been taking notes on,] Chi? Aura... Souls? Maybe even 'magic?' I'm sorry. I don't even know what it's called back home, so I just picked similar words from the dictionary... I want to learn how to control it, maybe?

Oh. And second! Does anyone know where I can buy charms for good luck, or for warding off bad spirits? Things like keeping misfortune at bay... They sold them as keychains at a Shrine back home. Or something I could put on a door to keep me from--- I mean! Evil spirits! F-from entering. I want to buy some, just in case.

[On this day there's an unusual sight going into the library. Namely a five foot tall gecko-like monster, walking on two pairs of legs but there are also two extra pairs of arms sticking out of his long purple body. He looks a bit shifty as he glances around furtively then continues toward the book shelves.]

[For Shi, sights like this are a twisted kind of 'normal' back home. The most common form a spirit would take was your typical "monster under the bed," so Shi would often see spirits condemned to scary appearances.

So his assumption is that he's seen a spirit from home. Shi puts his own book choice back on the shelf and walks quietly after Randall.]

Excuse me... Are you a spirit?

[randallboggs]

[He looks around.]

[stillsmiling]

[Shi jumps back in surprise. Oh dear. That was embarrassing... He would rather not come off as the scatterbrain he is.]

I asked if you're a spirit? Can I help you?

[randallboggs]

A spirit? .... No. I'm a monster.

[He says that very matter-of-fact.]

So you might be able to find it. The owner is a guardian I think it's called? So she's probably up for it.

I'm settling in fine, but I need a job. I also need to make sure I can afford a computer later on.

That's good. Guardians should be strong enough that I can't accidentally hurt them.

Which place did you decide to live in? I can help you look for a job? I'm trying to find out too.

I'm okay. I found out human bodies can freeze solid, so I probably shouldn't be camping... I hope things in Fayren are okay. Those poor people...

Anything is better than what I know now... Which is nothing. I want to know if my power is anything like 'aura.' I want to control it.

[And like an idiot, he nods.] Yeah, I let my hands freeze. They wouldn't even move...! But don't worry! I'm, uh... not exactly human.

[If he's going to be asking for help with aura, Shi figures he needs to be honest.]

Um. Not much... Back home, we try not to talk about it too much. I, um.

[His voice has gotten progressively softer as he gets more nervous. Shi doesn't want to scare her away from helping, but he knows he has to be honest.]

I'm a Curse Kami... I make everything go wrong...

[ Make everything go wrong...? That's certainly a grim power to have, Hikaru thinks to herself. However, who would she be for turning away someone who wanted help to control their powers? ]

I see... What exactly can you do as a Curse Kami?

I don't know, exactly...? I never had anyone to help me understand it back home, so I was trying to figure it out alone.

[He looks down at his notebook again, which he has been filling with theories.]

I know that my power seems to be linked to my 'Spirit.' It's not something I've been able to control, either. But the other Kami in my world can control their powers, so I should be the same, right?

[It's very tempting to just stew in his misery, especially when someone understands... But Shi pinches his cheek and tries to correct himself. After all, so many humans and spirits have died to keep Shi alive.

I was born from human hatred... so I know I should be glad. A lot of other spirits in my world never get to be born properly. I just wish I wasn't such a hazard.
