Luke showed up...have you talked to him yet? I know he posted on the network. I ran into him and his friend while I was out. First good thing I've seen during these kriffin' snowy patrols if you ask me.

But I'd like to know where in the heck they were before here. It wasn't home, that's for sure. He talked about a collar and some kind of being forced into sex thing. I'd sure like to find who the hell was responsible and let them have it.

And all I gotta say is if they try pulling Mara in, they'll be lucky if anything's left standing. You do NOT want to make that woman mad and if she were to ever hear what Luke went through, it won't be pretty.

I haven't said much about her yet, though...he's a lot younger, and I don't know that I need to spill it just yet.

Sorry, I'm just ticked. No one messes with the people I care about, especially not like that.

[ That's the first Cassian has heard of this. Understandable, it's nothing you would tell a stranger. But Solo and Skywalker aren't strangers, Han has often spoken of his friend. ]

I would be angry, too.

[ He is angry, even so, and the spy in him wants more information. But that sounds extremely private. ]

I talked to him, but only about... normal things. I learned he's a fellow rebel.

[ Cassian falls silent again. It's a terrible feeling when you can't protect the people you care for. ]

He's here now. Where you can keep an eye on him. You think he was in a place like this one?

Yeah, he is. The group he was in, they got the Death Star plans after Leia got them from the...well, your equivalents back home. He flew the Battle of Yavin and it was his Force stuff that let him hit the target on the Death Star.

These days, he's a Jedi. Pretty much rebuilding things from the ground up.

[Han shakes his head.] I don't know. It better not happen here. I might not be any Jedi, but I'll do what I have to if it'll help him if things do turn bad.

Seriously, we have enough issues here without things like that.

We won't let anything like that happen here. None of us will stand by and let that happen.

[ Expect he's sure the people in the other place didn't just stand by and let it happen either... ]

Your friend is as safe now as can be. I know you'll protect him.

We'd definitely put up a big fight, I know that.

[He nods] You better believe it. Although he's not a guy you wanna mess with either.

It's weird with him being so much younger than me. He always was, but now there's a difference in the times we're from. I'll fill him in on a few things, but not everything. Not sure how he'd react to Mara, so I'm keeping quiet on that for now. Unless she shows up...

[ Right. Yes, Mara, Han had mentioned her before. Cassian gives a curt nod. ]

Not telling him too much of his own future might be preferable, you're right. At least for now. You can reconsider if more of your family shows up, but there's no need to burden him with that now, after what he has been through.

Either way, I'm glad there's more of us now. There's safety in numbers, even if some of ours are going through a rough time right now.

Yeah, exactly. I agree there.

[He nods] Me too. Numbers are good in cases like this. And I'm glad we're keeping peace so far with the Imperials.

Me, too. Thrawn seems to be gone for real. At first I thought he was just laying low but I haven't heard of him in months. That's one concern less.

Kylo Ren is here, though. We can't ever seem to get rid of them for any length of time.

I'm still not sure what to make of him. Anakin said he's his grandson. How could my kid go dark? How's his world so different that my kids are on their way to being Jedi and he's on the Dark Side?

I don't know. I don't understand it. But the future is... [ Cassian falls silent. To share or not to share what Rey has told him? ] It seems to be a much darker future than yours. The girl, Rey, she told me the New Republic is under attack in her time. It looks like we are losing the war. Or have lost it. [ He snorts bitterly. ] Maybe your son chose the winning side.

Yeah, it does. It seemed a lot worse. We were able to push back decently once Thrawn and the Emperor's clone bodies were gone.

I guess it's like that line Luke got from Yoda, though. "Always in motion is the future." Even in our world, we can't really know what's ahead, y'know?"

No. No, we can't.

[ It's just incredibly discouraging to know the better world they've been fighting for will last only 30 years. Just a few years longer than the Empire. ]

I try not to think about the future. It drives you mad, to think how much work there is to do at home and we're stuck here.

Yeah you got that right. [He nods.]

I know it should be easier, knowing there's no way back for me. That did make it easier for a while. But now, knowing what will become of the future? It was easier to bear when I thought our future is secure.

Yeah, I think I understand. I hope the peace agreement we got now holds. Things seem calmer, but then things like the interruptions at the wedding happen, and it leaves me wondering.

Yes, I would wonder, too. I can only hope for your world. I hope you're spared the future of ours.

[ Sometimes ignorance is bliss. He sighs heavily. ]

I almost wish she had not told us but it's always better to have the facts, even if they hurt. Especially if more people from this First Order show up again. Or from your Imperial Remnant, for that matter.

I'd bring you to mine for a while if I could.

Yeah, true. A few weren't so bad. Barn Fel actually helped out side for a bit. But Isard and Daala, I don't like the idea of them showing up, or more I could name.

But, yeah, at least we can be prepared if anything does happen.

I would like to see your Republic. I would really like that.

[ He sighs and mentally files away the new names, Imperial Remnant names. You never know when it could be useful. ]

If any of them do show up we'll have you to handle the situation. Knowing that makes me feel a lot better. Thrawn and Palpatine never got a chance to cause damage, we have been doing well so far.

[ Cassian's face becomes a little more pinched. ]

And neither did our other selves.

I'll do what I can. And no, nothing too much. Palpatine found out you do not mess with my kids, that's for sure. I have to say it kinda felt good even though I'd have been dead without Luke doing most of the work.

You mean the...what happened not long ago? Those selves? Yeah, me too. I hate to think if we hadn't come to our senses back home and gotten away from the Imperial army.

[ He's grimly silent for a while, lips pressed together into a thin, pale line. ]

It frightens me. To know I could have become him. That there's another universe where I did. I don't like it when I find similarities between us.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Mine seemed so different, but I know I was headed that way for a while.

I didn't think I could have ever gone that way. It just seemed so inevitable I would always be a rebel, the only question was if I would keep fighting on Fest or join the Rebel Alliance main forces. It was a shock to realize I have it in me to become an Imperial.

I know the feeling. I know I started out at the academy, but that version of myself was rather scary. I was never that indoctrinated.

Have you ever caught yourself since and paused when you realized you did or thought something that he would have done, too? I have and I don't like it.

A few times. I don't like it, either.

There's someone... I need to speak to her about our other selves. My other self recruited her. But I don't know how to bring it up. I did so much during that time and nobody has confronted me about it yet, but I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I hope it turns out all right...it sounds like a tricky situation. Hopefully she'll understand it all.
