Who: Ryuji & Akechi

When: In the evening/night time of today
Summary: Ryuji and Akechi run into each other and shit goes down. Ryuji has a Persona awakening because of it.

[man oh man, tonight had been a busy night at the arcade. it was a good thing that he had gotten better at working with all the machines and whatnot. ryuji had been getting along pretty well in this place.... however the thing that bothered him the most? he hadn't been able to summon his persona at all since being here.

sure, he figured that it would never work either way, not like they were in the metaverse or anything. even so, being a phantom thief was apart of him! he really had been missing it a lot. as he thought about this he left the arcade, walking outside after his evening shift had finished up. he yawned, scratching the back of his head as he turned and...

saw akechi coming his way.

ryuji put his hands in his pockets, nodding at him. sure, he was still wary of the guy but... at least he hadn't done anything here. were they friends? no. but they were on okay terms at least.]

'Sup. [eloquent as ever.] What're you doin' around here?

[ akechi hadn't done anything bad here. he's been on more than excellent behavior, in his opinion. he's a model fucking citizen, thank you very much.

ryuji isn't his favorite person in the world but he's ...tolerable. he's not completely inconsiderate or anything. and still one of the only people he knows so that counts for something, he supposes. does he work here? huh.

all smiles on the approach, dressed slightly more casual than usual because he doesn't want to stick out like a sore thumb in this environment. a suit in an arcade? he's not stupid. ]

I'm investigating something, actually. Have you noticed anything odd?

Huh?

[something odd? ryuji just shrugged, kicking at the ground as he looked around.]

Not really... well, actually nevermind there was somethin' kinda weird before. [ryuji sniffed, rubbing his nose as he did.]

There was this real freaky smell earlier when I was workin'. It went away but sometimes it would come back. I can't really explain it. [some smelly monsters lurking about perhaps?! but not like ryuji would ever figure that out.]

[ he looks around as well for a second. gives a game off to the side a once-over, thinking he could probably beat it fairly easily. doesn't seem so hard. what's the appeal of these again?

he looks right back to ryuji thoughtfully, inhaling a breath instinctively. smells... not great. that might be the people in here though. ] Was it in any particular spots? How strong was it?

Yeah it was, it kinda came and went. It was pretty damn strong, I had to hold my breath at one point.

[he turned and pointed somewhere down the street.] Kinda felt like it was comin' from over there. I was uh... actually gonna go check that myself.

How peculiar. I wonder if that's part of the case. There have been quite a few mysterious injuries and at least one missing person around the area but not enough details to go off of, really. An odd smell... Perhaps a rogue animal? [ He's pretty much mumbling to himself at the end of that, chin resting on his hand while he tries to connect the dots. ]

Were you? I can handle it from here if you'd rather leave it alone. [ Going to start heading over in the pointed direction now. You coming? ]

Missing... people? And injuries? Shit do you think it's--

[listen, jsut as akechi started heading off in the direction of where ryuji pointed, there was a loud scream. a woman was screaming, in pain, and ryuji just widened his eyes at the detective.]

Shit! [he cursed, now running right past akechi. IT'S GO TIME!!]

We should be cautious and- hey, wait a minute!

[ And he's past him. Akechi runs after and keeps pace right behind him, slowing down once they're closer to the source and reaching to grab Ryuji by the arm so he doesn't run head first into something far too dangerous to try and ambush without a precaution. ]

[as he ran that strange smell that was around before returned. it almost smelled like rotting flesh, and ryuji's eyes burned as he was hit with it.

rounding the corner, he felt his arm be tugged back by akechi, and the blonde stopped to glare at him.]

What?! We gotta- [and again there was a scream. when he looked back in front of him, there was a monster, having now thrown an npc woman to the ground, and she was unconscious.

the monster in question didn't have a face, it simply had a form. it was on all fours, the flesh rotting and falling from its body, and it opened up its "mouth" to inhale, the breath sounding as though it got caught in its throat.

this looked like it was some kind of abomination that had been summoned in everglade.]

Wh...wha.... d...dammit...!

[ It's terrible and oddly familiar of a scent. Disgusting. Akechi responds to the glare with one of his own immediately. Don't be an idiot, Sakamoto.

He releases his grip and quickly looks around the area before settling his eyes on the woman first - then looking to the creature, breathing like something from the depths of mementos and only the foulest of nightmares. Looks like she's yet to lose her life over this, though there's certainly a hospital visit in her near future. ]

Well then. Your leader isn't here. Do you suppose I might call the shots on this one? [ For looking directly at a walking monstrosity, he's pretty damn calm. Hands currently occupied with pulling out a gun out of seemingly nowhere (right side holster. under jacket.) and cocking it. Let's see. Ryuji is lightning spells and heavy hits so... ]

[out of the corner of his eye he saw something. once he looked over, he widened his eyes in disbelief. the entire time, akechi had a gun on him?! ryuji's mouth went slack, but he was also reminded of the monster just a few meters away from them.

he inhaled again, a sickly sound, and then started to walk towards them. he was brought out of his thoughts when he heard akechi speak, all calm and collected.]

What...?! Call the- are you effin' kidding me?! We don't even have our Personas here, dammit! Do you really think a gun is gonna work?!

[he was so overly frustrated! he wanted to help, he wanted to start saving people again, but... he didn't have his powers.]

[ Akechi's got one hand up close to his face and the other raised to take aim at the thing, trying to ignore Ryuji's yelling to concentrate - only to completely pause and look at Ryuji with the most incredulous look. 'Don't even have our Personas' What? ]

Speak for yourself. Are you truly that much of an imbecile? [ The gun is used as more of a distraction shot, aimed at a nearby trashcan to make a sound so the thing doesn't immediately charge at them and give him an opening to use Tetrakarn on the unconscious woman. With Loki. Large and imposing and so pointy. Summoned as easily as waving a hand over his face. No costume change. There's enough of a shield to block her from taking another hit when the thing spins around and almost crushes her head.

He gives Ryuji a once over quickly, trying to figure out if he needs to block him from hits too. Or maybe he could just let him get his ass kicked. That's fine too, right? ]

Are you going to assist or just stand there?

[ryuji, for once, was stunned into silence.

the entire time he had been here he had felt so impossibly useless without his persona. sure, it would have been fine if he was around other, normal people, but no. there were individuals here that were so strong, that showed off their power and also protected people.

what had he been doing? nothing. nothing at all.

but apparently he had been holding back all along? he hadn't even tried to activate his persona at all, he didn't think he could. but apparently... akechi had the ability all along?! ryuji just stared at him and then-...

he looked down at himself, taking in a deep breath. hurry up, ryuji! get your shit together! he concentrated, thinking about his persona, why he got his abilities in the first place. his friends that he wanted to protect, kamoshida that he wanted to stop at all costs.]

Seiten Taisei..... [he felt it, stirring, his mask... he raised a hand up to his face as well, feeling the aura of the mask. it was there, at least not physically, but it was there!]

Persona! [suddenly his persona appeared, ready to strike!]

[ Others flaunted it, Akechi kept it a secret from all but someone who wasn't even here anymore (and that was still another Persona user.) He's surprised Ryuji didn't try pulling his out sooner. His motivations were using it were to protect and get recognized for it, right? It's part of him.

There was no doubt he could call that monkey out, and he wanted him to, but Akechi still looks surprised when he does. Because Ryuji manages to draw it out so easily. It took himself multiple tries, perhaps because his motivations were flipped on their head and everything was placed in the hands of someone else. There's enough of a disconnect with Robin Hood that he doesn't feel comfortable relying on him here. Loki becomes a harder to control sometimes - like it should be calling the shots instead. It takes a lot out of him. Signs of a broken spirit.

Ryuji calling full power after just being told he could has him feeling so ...envious. Hands balled up as tight as they can be.

Eigaon does nothing then. Of course that thing's immune to curse. ]

A shock might knock it down enough to take it out. [ Go on. ]

[it probably should have taken longer, however perhaps due to his frustrations over not having his persona for so long had begun to slowly manifest more of seiten taisei. maybe, due to his yearning for his persona, the monkey king had come about and was waiting for him to summon him all along. he felt like it was something like that, and he was glad for it.

he was back, his persona was back.

ryuji's own hands balled into fists, but it wasn't due to being envious, it was because he was getting ready for an attack.]

Got it! [he felt the spark within-!] Auuughh!!

[and he unleashed a ziodyne on the beast! it struck the monster, chunks of flesh fell off...but it was still standing!]

[ Ryuji yearns for it, Akechi hasn't. It's probably the main difference. The envy, however, helps when it comes to one like Loki. It's a fuel. Part of the bond. It makes for a formidable foe when channeled through. The lightning didn't knock it down - but it was a good chunk necessary to get it. Akechi follows it up quickly with brave blade. A harsh slice across the beast, getting one of it's monstrous limbs detached and upsetting the entire balance it has. The breathing sounds like multiple things combined and the smell seeping out of it is intensified. Disgusting.

On his own, he would pull out the heavy hit now to try and end it. But he's smart enough to know when it won't work. Half of what he has does nothing on this thing. It has to be a combo when it's knocked down, right? That was how their team operated. Go all in before it gets up and lunges. He looks to Ryuji, raising an eyebrow and grinning a little. Ready? ]

[ryuji already understands what they need to do before akechi even acted out his plan. once it had been downed, ryuji grinned, even running up to akechi and giving a good slap on his back.]

Let's go all in!

[he didn't have his weapons on him, but at least he did have his persona. he called out the monkey king again, this time going for a physical attack. god's hand time! suddenly a massive fist came crashing down, and hopefully akechi was going to do something at the same time as well!]

[ Akechi leans forward a bit at the slap, as if it might have been harder than Ryuji dished it. A knee-jerkish reaction to not expecting it, with a facial expression of raised eyebrows. Then he nods, serious.

He was doing something. Maragion can be somewhat excessive for a little alley but anything else that would hurt it would attract attention. Setting it aflame so it starts burning while the massive fist crashing down on the beast crushes its bones is certainly effective.

Then shooting the damn thing in the center of its head to put it out of its misery puts an end to that. ]
