Gaming Log [Semi Closed]

Who: Kodachi, Akane, Laharl, Renge, Usagi, Hippo (possibly with room for more, PM if interested)
What: Gaming!
When: July 12th, 10AM to 3PM
Where: A Gamer Center in Nova City

[ As our local lucky volunteers arrive at the gaming center they were instructed to head to, they are directed to file into a room with twelve chairs arranged in a semi circle in front of a blackboard. A man in a blue shirt and black jeans is standing at the front of the room, waving a hand to welcome everyone in. ]

"Welcome, welcome - so glad you could all make it. In just a few minutes we'll be turning on the Veer 500 and you can begin, I just wanted to go over a few ground rules, and make sure you sign this affidavit absolving us of responsibility if you get hurt, lost or warped within the virtual reality-ness of our system."

"Firstly, we've implemented real world physics in some of our games, and in those, if you get hurt there you get hurt here. Most of our games are for the enjoyment of children and adults alike, so the damage in those games are all in your head. IF you die, you'll just be ejected back to the central hub and have to wait until the next game round... (in theory)."

"Last but not least, provided this session is a success, we may invite you back for a second or third session until we hammer out any and all bugs or kinks in the system so that the Veer 500 is a gaming experience unlike any other. Now, before we open the doors to the Veer 500, are there any questions?"

[ Once the Q&A session is over, the group is ushered into a large, box shaped room with gridlines surrounding all the walls. Assistants swarm them at this point, chattering to each other and making small talk while instructing each person to attach circular sticky probes to various parts of their body, explaining that it was how they were monitoring the players and gathering data. Soon enough the fuss ends and the attendants start filing out of the room. One lingers a few seconds before leading to give the last bit of information. ]

Now the loading system is a bit disorienting for a lot of people, so when the lights go out you might want to close your eyes. We'll begin in five minutes, so I hope you all went to the bathroom beforehand~!

[ Cricket. Cricket. Cricket. ]

Yes. Well, I'll be going - so enjoy the gaming experience!

[ And out she hurries, the door shutting quietly, and leaving everyone to wait patiently. ]

[Renge had been keeping awfully quiet the whole time, people might not have been paying that much attention to her. But she was focused on testing thing thing that everything outside of it was not something that entered her mind.

Once the door was shut she closed her eyes, but not before finally making herself known.]

So... any bets on what we'll see when this thing starts? I'm thinking action/adventure type game.

[ Another voice piped up from the darkened room, unsure of herself. Akane hadn't been the most vocal in the group, but she wasn't exactly quiet either. ]

Action and Adventure would be pretty cool, I guess. To tell the truth I've never really been much of a gamer type - unless you count sports. This is the first time I've even done this kind of thing.

[Augh. Why did Kodachi decide to do this, she has absolutely no idea what is going on. The last time she saw a video game console it was a little grey box. Are they being stuffed in a giant grey box? Why are people invited to be messing around with bugs? What if she has to go to the ladies room? WHAT IS GOING ON??

However since no one else has raised their hand first, yet, she'll be damned if she raises hers first.]

[Oh there was one person that was keeping a very close eye on Renge and that was Kodachi Kuno. She's not happy with the rich girl in the least; plus after she dared to give Vyers insulting scores, Renge's officially on the Black Rose's shit list.

And here was the perfect place to exact revenge!

But that said, once the questions are asked, Kodachi is all smiles. She's a bit overdressed for the occasion in a black and red flower print kimono, her hair completely dolled up and held in place with a fancy comb.]

Oh, Action/Adventure would be all right, but I would wish to partake in a romance simulation, where I can select from dozens of handsome young men whom trip over their own feet to gain my affection! <3

[Renge was thankfully cosplaying as something a video game character would possible wear for RPG games. Hey, a girl has got to be ready for the possibility of fighting, okay?]

I would agree a real life romance simulation would be to die for, but noticing the fact they mentioned we could get hurt makes the possibility of that less likely.

[She actually paid some attention to what they had been saying.]

But I hope they hurry it up soon, a lady can get very bored, very quickly just standing here.

[ Akane glanced at Renge and the other girl curiously, then shrugged a little. ]

Well if it's action I'm not worried. [ She could handle any action they threw at them. ]

Were we supposed to come in costume though? [ Because neither she nor Kodachi had. Akane just wore the Furinkan school uniform she had been in on the way home before being whisked away to this place. ]

[ AND THEN!!! As if Renge's words were the catalyst to the action, the lights in the room suddenly flickered out -- well everyone ought to have their eyes closed anyway so it's not like they noticed that detail. However the sound and smell of a busy tavern was soon to reach their ears, and should they open their eyes - they would find themselves exactly there. In the midst of a tavern, with a grizzled, overweight man staring at them impatiently. ]

Well, are you ready to go or do I need to go over it again?

[ Kodachi you look really kinda constipated right now. Fortunately the person presiding over the gathering knows that look, and he points at her with a big smile. ]

Miss, do you have a question?

[She will smack you and call you Charlie I swear to god.]

Wh- Huh??

[Kodachi looks from left to right to make certain she's the one being addressed, then finally points to herself.]

Who, me? I.. Ah.. Are there 'time outs'?

[Like fun Kodachi isn't dressed up! She's dressed as 'The Heroine'! She's the star here! She hears Akane, though, and a bead of sweat falls down the side of her face. That is too much; she really doesn't recognize her!

That said, she takes the opportunity to laugh, with her fingertips raised to her lips.]

Ahahahahah! Spoken like one whom has truly never experienced love! Let me tell you something, 'dear', 'Love is a battlefield' is not some silly metaphor! I suppose you may understand better once you are older~.

[And she.. She can't help herself. When the man's voice speaks, she opens her eyes, then shrieks at the top of her lungs when she sees the man!]

AN OGRE!!!

[ BRING IT ON TOOTS +.+ ]

...? I'm...sorry ma'am? 'Time outs'?

[ The man looked a little confused. ]

Oh! Yes, of course we do have a handy pause function when you want to think about something without worrying about being attacked. You would just thrust your arm out and cry OBJECTION.

[ Someone sidled over to him and whispered in his ear. ]

Oh. Pardon me, that's the wrong game. I of course meant, 'PAUSE'.

No. I just thought I would come in cosplay. Just for fun.

[She twirled slightly even after they had entered into the simulation. Once she stopped she paused and looked around in somewhat disgusted.]

Ugh, I should have expected being in a tavern at one point, but it smells of sweat, alcohol and god only knows what else. [At least it seemed realistic to her as she looked at the supposed ogre, completely ignoring what the other had said about love being a battlefield.]

That is not an ogre that is a very, very fat man. [Arms crossed her over chest she walked up to him and looked at him with a serious expression on her face.]

We can get moving while you explain everything. Is that simple enough for you?

"Love? Who needs it. Boys are all idiots anyway. I -hate- them." [ She glanced down herself, ] "And what the heck am I wearing!?"

[ Apparently the gaming center saw fit to provide her with a costume since she didn't come with one. Her schoolgirl attire was replaced with animal skin, leather boots and realistically wiggling tail and a wolf hood. ]

"This is disgusting - is this real?"

[ Kodachi screaming ogre on a the elderly man aside, Akane was about to tell the girl to calm down when Renge spoke up. ]

"What she said. The sooner we take care of this 'game' the sooner we can get out of here."

[ The very not skinny man seemed confused for a second, and then nodded. ]

Well your first task is to harvest five moonbird eggs from its nest. Try not to antagonize the moonbird or break any of the eggs. I should caution you to be on your guard - there have been spies in the area and they may sabotage your attempts to claim the moonbird eggs. I'll give you a map to the first location Ms. Knight.

[ This he handed to Renge, who appeared to be assigned the leadership position based on the red flag over her head. He eyed Akane. ]

I've never seen a party grouping quite like this - a knight, a princess and a berserker.. but I suppose it works.

[Twitch.. Twitch.. What does Akane mean 'who needs it'? But that doesn't hit her quite as hard as Renge ignoring her previous comment- she would have fallen over if she wasn't so busy shrieking at the not-ogre! Until Renge corrects her then her expression, at the snap of a finger, returns to normal.]

Oh, so it is!

[And then she looks to Akane. Oh.. Oh that is just too rich; even Kodachi knows that the martial artists outfit is.]

Oh, well that is a simple enough task! Though I suppose the difficult part will be keeping Akane over there from eating them first..

Ah, right I suppose I should intoduce myself! I am Princess Kuno of the Kuno Kumquat Kingdom. I have seventeen heirs awaiting my return so that they may propose to me, but of course I intend to turn them all down.

My father is a man who simply does not understand that the one I truly love is a young farmer boy.. He enjoys long walks on the beach, writing poetry, and..

[And she's not going to shut up. It keeps going; as if she had written a horrible fan-fic.]

Five moonbird eggs, do not agonize the birds, nor break them. Also be careful as there are spies. Got it.

[Renge seemed oddly calm, putting the map down her currently plated chest. The armour is more heavy than one would make for a cosplay, but it worked the knight line. When she is sure the map is nice and safe as heads towards the door, while miss princess was talking.]

Less talky, more walky. Come on, lets get moving. I'm also sure you might meet your fancy farmer boy alone the way if you hurry it up.

[Usagi was for the most part silent during the whole process. They gave her sweets as she entered the building after all. So she was mostly busy eating if not getting lost with how technical everything was. But she couldn't complain. So instead she just listened and waited for the game to start.

There seemed to be something wrong with the game as it started. She didn't see her fellow players. It was odd. And somehow, Usagi found herself sitting on top of a well-canopied tree. This was plain silly. She should have a party if this was truly an action or adventure game, right? Wasn't she supposed to start out with nothing but a loin cloth or something? That's how RPGs work. She needed to work for her armour and weapon.

Instead, as she sat on the tree, she noticed she was wearing complete gear. She was wearing a black leather suit which covered her whole body. She was wearing light apparel, black boots and black gloves as well. Around her waist was a belt which seemed light but full of things. She had tiny knives and blades strapped on her belt. Behind her, was a long thin blade. And in her hands was a note.]

Where is everyone?

[She whined before looking at her belt for some form of food. She was still hungry.]

[ Akane gave Kodachi a strange look. ]

Excuse me? What's that supposed to mean? And how did you know my name anyway?

[ That whole backstory is just. it sounds made up ok. Made up and badly made up at that. She sighed, because it seemed the 'princess' was getting REALLY into it. Instead she moved to follow Renge. ]

You seem like you've done this before - [ She offered a hand. ] I'm Akane.

[ Group formed, player tags suddenly became visible to each 'participatnt. Princess Kodachi, Akane the Howling Fist, and Sir Ren of Ge. Before they could leave however, it felt like they were walking into solid air - something preventing them from proceeding. A text box popped up in front of Renge reading: Party Requirement 4.

At the same time, Usagi entered, with a player tag reading, "Usagi Nimblefingers" Level 4 THF - LFG in brackets. ]

Pish posh, I can talk and walk, thank you very much,

[She replies with a huff, though to Akane's question, the Black Rose looks a bit caught off-guard.]

Oh.. Well... You see, that is because.. [Bing!] I can see it, of course. Can you not?

[Yes.. Yes, that's it. At the idea of her true love being near, though, she squeals with excitement and brushes by the duo at full speed, while ignoring the voice of Usagi.]

Worry not, my love, soon your Princess shall fly into your open arms abd- WAUGH!!!

[She slams so hard against the not-wall her arms and legs spread outward. And she stays there, rather cartoonishly.]

[Renge had to pause for a moment, so they needed the last member, but as she glances around she had no idea where they were, at least she knew they weren't in this building. But outside maybe. Noting the THF means they were a thief if her knowledge was correct.]

Okay before we can move on, we need to this this fourth party member. So right now that is our first priority since we can';t move on until then.

[It shouldn't be too hard since they can't move forward, it meant she was near by so all they had to do was find the person who stood out, which thankfully wasn't long because honestly, being in a tree like that and talking loudly is making yourself known.]

Oi, you in the tree, will you mind coming down please?

[The paper said she was not supposed to be discovered. She should really read the games instructions before talking or moving. When one of the players seemed to be talking to her, she pretended she was a bird.]

Caaaw... Caaaw

[Not convincing at all, but she was still confused with everything happening.]

[Renge sighed, that really was a really bad attempt, but if she wants to play along she'll play along and just be honest later. Putting a hand to her head she glances around.]

Maybe I was wrong, maybe I was just seeing things. Keep an eye out ladies.

[Usagi throws her hands up triumphantly when Renge started walking away. She will be an excellent thief.

But throwing her hands up in the air is not a good thing to do when you're out of balance. So when she did this, she started faltering. Not yet falling but just moving about and threatening to fall.]

Uh...

oh....

wee... he... oooohoo..

[ Akane -winced- as Kodachi faceplanted into the invisible wall. ]

Ouch.. are you okay? Maybe you should take it easy for a bit Datcha.

[ No wait, was it Kodachi or Kodacha? Well, whatever. She reached over and pulled the poor girl away from the wall ~~then flapped her out so she went back to three dimensions instead of two~~. And...someone cawing like they were a bird.. Akane glanced towards Renge, lowering her voice a little. ]

You aren't really buying that are you?

[ Uhoh, Usagi's about to blow her own cover! ]

Nnnghh..

[Kodachi appreciates the help, but then Akane just had to ruin it didn't she. Didn't she! She scowls as she yells,]

Excuse me?? That is 'PRINCESS KODACHI KUNO OF THE KUNO KUMQUAT KINGDOM' to you! And just how was I supposed to know something like that was going to happen?

[Beat. Then to Renge. Kodachi lost track of what's going on, so stands there looking huffy.]

[Oh dear. That sword behind her was light, but heavy enough to push her out of balance when she was already unstable to begin with.]

Iyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

[With a loud thud, Usagi falls face first to the ground.]

[Renge looked over at the fallen girl for only a moment before looking at Kodachi.]

So... your family sell fruit?

[Beat, then she shakes her head and points to the now fallen girl.]

I thought I would humour her, but since she outed herself I don't need to any more.

Ow!!!

[She said raising her face to look at everyone.]

Well sure, that's what I said isn't it? I mean, the gist of it anyway.

[ She waved a hand at the other girl. Such a drama queen! ]

Oh.. oh wow, that... that does'nt hurt? Right there? [ Poor Kodacha has a bruise on her itty bitty nosey wosey.. woeeee her perfect perfection. Glancing at Renge, Akane smiled awkwardly, glad to know at least one other person was level headed here. ]

I've never heard of royalty selling fruit, but.. this is a game right? So weird things happen a lot I guess? [ Like people rying to hide in trees and then falling out of said tree.]

... are you okay?

[ Jeez, they haven't even started yet and two party members wound up hurting themselves. That doesn't bode well. ]

[Kodachi looks taken by surprise by the question, and after she rubs her nose she flips her lid.]

Does my family sell- [She then glares at Akane] No! This is absolutely absurd!! For your information, my Kingdom is populated by sentient kumquats and I rule over the lot of them, it is not that difficult!!

[Huff! Huff! Huff! But then Kodachi blinks a few times and looks down to notice the fallen THF bunny.]

Oh! Usagi! Whatever are you doing down there, dear?

So you rule over fruit? That makes sense.

[Yeeep, she may or may not be kidding at what she just said, but right now it's really hard to tell as she kneels down next to Usagi.]

You poor dear, being put in a tree the moment you arrive. We have to set off on a mission soon, but I'm sure you'll get use to your skill set soon.

[A door opens in the...air? Not much can be seen past the door, since King Hippo's massive girth obscures most of it, but here he comes, squeezing himself into the room and frowning.]

Move it!

[Anyone in his path who doesn't obey is going to be rudely pushed aside. The door closes behind him, and he blinks. Yeah. Yeah, this is more his element. Never been here before, but he's pretty sure he can navigate his way better than the rest of these twiggy girls.]

Gotta be a warp zone around here somewhere...

[Maybe in that tree stump. He hops in.]

Yes! I'm okay I thi....

[Before she could respond, she heard a voice from above her. Then she notices a large guy falling.]

Uwaaaaaaaaaaah

[She picks up her sword along with herself and starts running behind the girls she's with.]

[Kodachi finds nothing wrong with Renge's statement. Wow.. That.. That is one huge.. Thing. Wearing a crown?? Kodachi at first stares at Hippo with wide eyes, but once Usagi skitters behind them, she remembers to go back into character. So she takes in a deeeep breeaaath, then lets out the most unholy of screams.]

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!! THE KING OGRE!!

[ Hops in and promptly gets stuck inside of an empty tree trunk that was once home to a family of chipmunks. It =probabl= won't be too hard to get out with that girth though. If y'know. Y'break it. Those poor chipmunks though. Poor things go skittering for freedom the minute they see Hippo coming too. Ohgodaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. ]

... how would I know someting like that? Is that kind of background even normal?

[ As far as getting ianto character well... Akane's no idea how that's supposed to even happen. However Kodacha's scream automatically has Akane put a hand out ~~and slap her upside the head~~ to guard her from an attack - that doesn't come. ]

King Ogre? You know this guy?

[ Also how did things turn out with Akane at the forefront? ]

An ogre????

[Yes. The most equipped among them. The person who is an actual heroine is cowering behind the girls.]

[He holds his arms up, looking from side to side to gauge his situation. He should have sunk right in, and plopped out in some other world...preferably the world of Metroid. This thing must be busted. Well it's not like he's going to let himself stay stuck for the sake of some stupid rodents, so he gives himself a hearty downward jolt, using his massive girth to shatter the stump. He kicks his way out of the rest with his stubby legs. Marching up to the squad of girls, he jabs the thumb of his glove at his chest.]

I'm King Hippo! Who are you losers?

Know him? Well, no, but is it not obviou-

[She squeaks once Hippo shouts again, but it doesn't kill much of her amusement of his being stuck. What in the world was he trying to do, anyway?

And with Usagi hiding behind them, the Princess can't help but be wary there as well. She better not steal anything!]

The monster king speaks beast-tongue! I am far too sophistocated to comprehend it! [She declares, now conveniently standing behind Akane.] You speak his language, do you not? Do relay to the animal that we come in peace!

[ Akane tenses, her eyes narrowing at this RUDE jerk of a guy. And .. with Kodachi suddenly behind her, Akane raises an eyebrow. ]

Beast tongue...? It doesn't sound like beast tongue to me; I understand him fine.

[ Well, whatever. ]

Tendou Akane. Behind me is Princess Kodachi of the... er.. Kumquat Kingdom.. [ She shot a quick glance at the other girl to confirm because ti's a weird WEIRD thing. ]

And the other girl is... ... actually I don't think we ever got her name. What's it to you?

[Is that candy hidden within Kodachi's dress' secret pockets. Usagi helps herself to some of them before peering from behind the two ladies.]

What kind of name is King Hippo?

Didn't give a name, huh? How about Stupid? Bwah ha ha ha ha!

[That's what you get for questioning his awesome name. Satisfied that he just made the mother of all burns, he starts waddling away from the trio of girls. At least the Akane one treated him with some respect. He'd punch her last if it came to that.]

Well whatever. Once I find that warp zone, I'm outta here!

Well I suppose it is stupid. And a warp zone?

[Kodachi ignores the look she's given; as far as she's concerned it is the most normal thing! Suddenly there's a fan in hand, which she snaps open upon being introduced. Why there are even twirling roses and her name and title written in gorgeous cursive in front of her. And she doesn't look impressed by the King's joke. In fact, she raises a hand to her chest to quite loudly huff her disapproval.]

Why I never! I refuse to allow my rank to be sullied by the likes of this... This Beast! By the powers invested in me, I hereby decree that you are to be addressed as merely 'Hippo'!

[Grr, snarl! As for 'what is a warp zone'. She then speaks behind her fan to Usagi, unaware she has been looted.]

Do not encourage his crude attempt at humor, dear, he is referring to his waist-size.
