Wings of Change || Closed w/ Soma

The moment she found out she had her first job, Hana was livid with excitement! This was the best day! This was the day she was going to fly her highest!

The morning she turned into her normal fluff form reared up and flew up so high! The clouds, the sun, and the wind was invigorating. Becoming one with the moment, Hana could be in the sky forever if she had the energy to do so. Becoming one with the skies, the cool air then--!

Everything blacked out. The dragon felt the electricity claw at her body and she was set aflame. Falling down to Everglade, the dragon's flames went out, she woke again, to not hit the ground as hard, but flopped to the ground, breathing heavily. Her surroundings were dark and clouded...she didn't recognize this place. It smelled like Death, though, and wandering spirits that made her feel hungry. Smelling someone nearby, the dragon groaned,

"Where am I.."

When he set out that morning, intending to gather some herbs for Cassian's shop, Soma had no idea that dragons were on the forecast. So when one came crashing to the ground not thirty feet from him, one could perhaps forgive him for being a little alarmed. Especially when he was out, browsing the wilds of a place known for being home to the lion's share of the darker supernatural creatures on this planet. He could possibly even be forgiven his initial knee-jerk reaction, which was to draw his sword and call up his strongest defenses. But when murder in the form of claws, teeth, and a ton of dragon were not forthcoming, he put the sword away.

And then it talked, and It became She, and the giant murderbeast became... intelligent. It took him a moment to parse the question - having never been spoken to by a dragon before, there was a depth of tone there that was entirely alien to him.

"We're in the forest, just outside the city of Everglade. What little forest there is, anyway. Can I take it on faith that you aren't about to try to eat me?"

There's a trace of humor in his voice as he moves closer, taking the opportunity to get a good look at the dragon's injuries, if any were present. After an uncontrolled fall from that height... there just about had to be some.

"Not particularly, no. I've met him - pretty nice fellow, for a skeleton with a scythe." At least, the Discworld's Death was nice. "I asked because I know some healing magic, and might be able to help you, if you aren't considering attacking. Attacking would be a bad idea in your state." Attacking would be a bad idea in any state, he did not add, because you never can tell with a dragon. He did NOT fancy his chances as an incipient dragonslayer.

He hmm's thoughtfully, taking further stock of her injuries. He wasn't sure if the potions he carried would even make a dent in that... so it's plan B, if she lets him. Alura Une. The soul of a demon, which grants him the power to heal. He doesn't use it on others very often - mostly because the drain on his mana is taxing. But he hasn't been using his abilities, lately, so he has mana to burn, right now.

"Like who? I'm sorry, I don't know any Eliot."

"Another vampire? There seem to be a lot of them arriving, lately. Half of them have ended up at the castle. The other half seem to be gravitating to Augustine." Oh, he does not like the way this is looking. Two largeish factions of vampires? That's just BEGGING for a turf war.

"If this Eliot is a full vampire, then no, I'm not quite like him. I'm what you'd call a dhampir - a half-breed. Scion of a vampire and a human. All of their strengths, none of their weaknesses - only because of the bloodline of the vampire that was my father, I have... rather a lot more power than most."

He lets Alura Une loose, and vines rise from the ground to drape over her back. Behind her, a huge flower grows, blooms, and reveals a woman in a rather advanced state of undress. The only thing protecting the decency and the PG rating of this post are a couple of what look like ribbons, free-floating around her in an artful fashion. Soma nods to this apparition - it isn't fully manifested, just a ghost image.

And then, he starts feeding it power. Waves of gentle green light fall from the vines, permeating through Hana's feathers and skin, making whole what injuries they pass. It's a slow process, though. Probably going to take several minutes.

"Who or what is this soul that wants to pass?"

"Some of us are. A lot of us aren't. Vlad would treat you with respect, but he has the blackest heart you will ever see." And Soma should know. "The rest of us here seem to be a great deal less genocidal, though. Still best to be careful."

He continues the healing, letting the pent-up power flow through the captive soul, and contemplates her next words.

"Suffering is something all creatures do. It hurts, but it makes us stronger in the end - those of us it doesn't break, at least. As for food... Most vampires drink blood. I'm... not one of those. I eat human food, but it's not enough to keep the vampire side fed."

"It's not the food itself. My body is more or less fine. It's the supernatural side that needs... something extra." He considers her words, and finally nods. "I see. In that case, I suppose that an end to suffering is mercy; I'm not sure I could carry out that task, myself."

The healing falters for a moment when she asks that last question. "I... what do you mean? How did you know that?"

Rather like shepherds tending a flock. The thought comes unbidden, and is as quickly dismissed - doubtless there is more to the relationship she's described than that. When she grabs him suddenly, he very nearly reacts poorly - his reflexes have been trained to recognize large + teeth + claws + rapid approach = danger. He manages to override that instinct, though. She clearly means him no harm - and besides, he could stop her if she tried, without hurting her in the process. Being treated like a doll, however, is slightly embarrassing.

"You're welcome. Finding a use for my abilities that isn't destructive is... always nice." And then she asks the big question. "I... something like that. The latter. I absorb the souls of monsters and demons I defeat, and gain a portion of their power. The name of my power is Dominance; I inherited it from my father's side of the family."

He definitely feels more comfortable on the ground.

"Monsters and demons... I shouldn't really conflate the two. Monsters are just... creatures that follow their nature. They're gifted with magic and tend to avoid humanity, except when hunting them. Many are predators; some even have the ability to change their forms. Some are born of curses, or out of old legends that are given life by human belief. Demons... demons are something else."

He sighs, and holds up a hand to call up a fireball. She can probably smell the sulfur stink of the hellfire, before he dismisses it. "Demons are either fallen angels or creatures spawned in the pits of Hell. They know nothing but malice, anger, and hatred. Many are immortal, and can only be banished from the mortal world by wielders of great holy power... but my ability circumvents that. When I defeat them, when I strike them down in combat, there is a chance that instead of returning whence they came, their souls will enter MY body. And each new soul I absorb... grants me a new ability. I can walk on water, fly to a limited extent, throw fire and lightning, conjure constructs to aid me, hurl all manner of projectiles... the list is very long and complicated. I've fought... thousands of them."
