I know it had been a couple weeks since the egg thing, but I ended up rather busy during that time, that I honestly didn't notice.

[Which was a little white lie that people who knew him well enough would easily figure out. But he wanted to pretend that he wasn't around, or that he didn't notice to those who didn't know him at all. It was best that way anyway.]

But that isn't what this whole thing is about. No, it seems as if I am having a bit of a situation with work. [He turned around to show off the kitchen of the Cat's Eye. There were ingredients everywhere, some open, some left in packaging. But never the less the workplace was as messy as anything really.]

I find myself having some creative block of a sort and I've not been happy with what I've been making as of late. I must admit I am not sure when this will end, but until then I am leaving all creative projects and ideas to whoever works for me. You'll be free to create something new for the menu.

[That was pretty much it, really. At least he thought for a moment before he remembered something.]

Ah! That's right... The date. In two weeks time, I'll have been here for four years. Time really does fly here, doesn't it? [He can't help but chuckle slightly.] I'm not doing anything on the day, but whenever it comes around I always spend some time to myself and think about everything I've been through and how it has changed me and if you knew me at the beginning will probably have noticed such changes. But those numbers are limited. [He paused for a moment.]

It makes me want to ask this question. For those who have been here for a time, have you noticed any changes in yourself? If so if it's for the better or not?

[With a small smile he switches off the feed. At least publicly. There is one person he kind of wanted to talk to about the child thing at least.]

It's about the person you spoke to as a kid while you were a kid also. I feel like I can at least trust you with this information

Four years is a really long time... I haven't been here long, but I'm trying to change..?

[He laughs slightly. It was an amusing thought for him really.]

It seems the egg I had come across changed me from a very... let's just say a part of my life that wasn't the best.

It is. it's been at least two to three years since I last saw someone I knew.

But it is good in you trying to change.

Would that really be okay? I wonder if Mami-san would enjoy that... We work at the bunny cafe, and Mami-san was always amazing at preparing cake.

I arrived over three years ago. The most obvious change was growing 10 centimeters.
I needed to have my suits tailored.
My height doesn't stand out as much here as it did at home.

( fai no...he's gonna have to clean all that when he gets back. nevertheless, ren pushes his glasses up and makes a little fist clench of determination. he can be counted on for this. )

I'm not sure I want to be here long enough to start noticing changes...but if it ends up that way, I hope it's for the better. What about you, Boss-san? ( curious head tilt ) What changes do you mean? Were you a different sort of person when you first got here?

FOUR YEARS!? That's a lot! Are you sure you don't want to celebrate it?

So long as it's not the whole menu. [That's his only rule really.]

Otherwise, it's fine. It helps those develop their skills and if you ever open your own cafe gives you that experience as well since you make your own menu.

Well growing young boys do tend to grow until a certain age... But congratulations on ten centimeters, that is impressive. It means you have been living a good life, I like to think.

Minus the stuff that happens now and again. But how did you stand out at home?

Good. My only rule is to not completely change the menu. There will be one or two things I would want to keep.

[Or at least one particular item anyway.]

I was a completely different person than I was when I first arrived. Both being here and going to the Dream Docks helped, I like to think.

It is a lot, it's actually rare to have people stay as long. There are only like one or two people who have been here for a month or two longer than me.

But I am pretty sure I don't want to celebrate. It's not something I do in general.

Then maybe we'll try something cute for the cafe! Mami-san is so creative too.

Thank you so much for hiring us, by the way! The cafe is so much fun. I never imagined I would get a job.

Noted. ( not that he was planning to. ) But just out of curiosity, what is it that you'd like to keep on there?

( his eyes round out with curiosity, because he can't imagine fai having been completely different than who he is now. was it change for the better, like he implied? it has to be, because fai seems very kind. but then that would mean he wasn't so before, wouldn't it? )

What kind of person were you...?

( if that's not too invasive...he doesn't usually pry like this. he also wants to ask what the dream docks are, but one thing at a time. )

You don't have to talk about it, if it's a weird subject. ( he won't be mad, everyone has things they'd rather leave in the past. )

This world must really like you if it keeps you here for so long.

For the Cat's Eye just the Cheery Blossom cake. It's the only one I am keeping no matter what.

[He had his reasons, he had still been working on other cakes for the other cafes but then found the creative block.]

It's fine. But not something I'm exactly open about. But I will just say that I hide a lot less.

That or it really hates me and wants to keep me and see how to make me suffer.

Do I sense a story behind that, or is the Cherry Blossom cake really just that good?

( he'll have to ask him to show how to make it sometime, regardless of the reason and whether or not fai wants to tell it to him.

when fai says he hides a lot less, ren can feel his smile slip into a surprised frown. less to do with the actual admission so much as that...it's nice to actually see a similarity, something he can relate to, in someone older than him. he's quiet for a moment, just searching the other's expression, and then allows his smile to settle back into place. )

Because you've met people you feel like you can trust to be yourself? ( that was his reason, anyway, though he doesn't explicitly say that. ) If that's the reason, I can understand that. I hope you had people like that back home too, though.

( he wonders if fai is happier here. before, he said he wanted to go back but that going back to his home just wasn't as simple as going back to his home. ren isn't sure if he meant that it was a physical obstacle or something more abstract. more personal. he doesn't press it though, instead moving on to the other question he wanted to ask. )

Also, if you don't mind the game of twenty questions - you mentioned Dream Docks, and that they helped you. What is that?

That might help, or at least hope it gets me out of this creative block. No idea what caused it either, but it is rather annoying.

It's a cake based on someone I know. That's all. I was meant to make a cake for each cafe based on a friend, but I was having problems. That is the only one I managed to perfect.

[He paused for a moment, moving to lean on the counter. He guessed he could put it like that. That he found people that he could, but he knew that really it was a lot more to it than that. A lot of talking and someone literally knocking sense into him. Experiences... He couldn't quite put a finger on the exact thing, but all of it in general.]

Sort of. I mean it's a part of it, but ones own experiences also count toward change.

Those come and go, sometimes there's no reason. A good start is just to forget about complicated new things. Sometimes cooking is fun just for the sake of it. Let's make homemade banana bread, with animal shapes.
