[ The device starts tilted when it turns on and the owner of it self-corrects, holding it as far as her arm will allow to fully present herself. There's a pause and she pulls it back in for a moment so she can take both her gloves off. This is a girl who is way overdressed for spring, that's for sure. There's a sheepish smile and a tiny wave of the free hand before she speaks. ]

Um! Hi. Hello, everyone! This is supposed to be an open network, right? It's been quite a while since I have been on one of those so forgive me if there's a protocol I am supposed to be following. Your posts were of a wide-variety of topics and methods so I figured it was okay to just wing it!

First, I would like to thank everyone who provided the welcoming information and the hologram. Waking up in a pod can be... quite daunting! Especially when you don't remember going in it this time. It is better to have such a warm greeting, even if what was being said seemed way crazy at first.

My name is Mei-Ling Zhou but just 'Mei' is good. In my world- [ A tiny laugh ] I get to say "my world." I have never crossed dimensions before, if that is what really happened! Gosh. Who knew? In my world, I am a climatologist. I specialize in abnormal climate phenomena and their effects on different ecosystems. I would love to know what kind of environment we are dealing with, if anyone could provide more information about the area. Perhaps I could be of use somehow?

[ She takes a glance around, trying to think of what else to add. ] I guess that's it for now! Unless anyone wants to provide food recommendations. I would love to try another world's cuisine. And I may need someone to help me go shopping for something lighter.

[Mercy was -- surprise surprise -- in her office at work doing paper work when she noticed the phone. She didn't pay too much attention and turned her attention to her paper work until she heard the voice. Looking up again, she set her papers down to grab her phone.]

Oh wow. You've arrived here too, Mei? I really need to invest in a bigger house....

I can come and get you, if you'd like. I was just about to take my lunch break.

[That's not true, but she hasn't taken it yet, so why not? Needless to say, she's happy to see Mei again. It's been a long time since she's seen her in person.]

[ Gasping. Well, that's a relief. She honestly thought she was alone again. One huge smile coming up. ]

Doctor Ziegler! I am so happy to see you. Have you been here long? [ There's rapid blinking for a second but she decides that 'house' mumble is probably information that will come in due time. ]

I would appreciate it if you could. I was planning on getting a lost exploring.

I'm glad to see you as well, Mei. I'll be there soon then. Just stay by the Bay, where you woke up.

[She'll disappear from sight, but she seems to be putting her coat on to exit her office. Soon enough, she'll pick up her phone again to lock her door and head that way. Thankfully she's not too far away.]

I've been here for... nearly a year now? A little over half a year anyways. [That's probably not going to make her feel any better, but it's the truth.] Have you been well?

Okay. [ A firm nod. She goes and finds herself a dry spot to take a seat in, firmly staying put for now with the pamphlets and everything. ]

Half a year? How has no one noticed you went missing to here? News like that would have reached me, right? [ The mouth is a little agape. ] I have been well. There was promising results to my adventures.

[And soon enough she's there. Seeing Mei there is a relief so she hurried over with a smile and a small wave.]

Well, Time goes by differently here. Apparently time doesn't pass back home while we're here, so they wouldn't know anyone was gone in the first place. [But that next bit, had she known Mei was left all alone, would sting a bit.]

Oh? That's great to hear. I'm glad that you were able to find some useful research. [She knows she tries her best after all.]

[ It's good to see a familiar face up close to prove that they're actually there. A co-worker. Alive one. And Mercy doesn't age, like, ever and whatever science is behind that is always so cool to think about.

Mei hops right back to her feet, holding her hands close to her chest and smiling excitedly. ]

That is fascinating! [ The smile fades. Eyebrows knitting together. ] But potentially worrying as well. If no one knows you are missing, they will never go looking. This place could potentially get away with anything if someone is controlling that power. It does not seem threatening at a glance but it could be very misleading. Have you been okay?

[Someday she'll share her secret with you, but you don't need it quite yet. Mei is looking quite young herself, in a good way. It's good to see her doing well.]

That's true, I suppose. We'll just have to do what we can while we're here to try to find a way back home.

I've been relatively well, otherwise. Just busy working and dealing with the situation the best I can. There's plenty of us here now, so it's not quite as lonely.

Climatology? That's fascinating... I don't think I'm ever met a climatologist before. At least, never spoken to one.

Maybe I pick your brain regarding what you do, exactly? Any interesting discoveries?

I have been making innovations in climate manipulation to protect at-risk areas and tracking down threats to the planet's ecosystem -...my planet's ecosystem? [ She pushes her glasses up, pausing to think of a good answer ] Interesting discoveries... I figured out how to freeze my own arm without causing any damage? But that is somewhat unrelated. The technology has helped add more to a melting icecap though! I think the local wildlife may be able to repopulate now.

Really? Freezing your arm safely? That's amazing! You mean as in no lasting damage akin to frost bite, right? That must take an amazing amount of control!

So in a way, you've found a way to play God for your planet.

I have avoided frost bite. The endothermic blaster is very safe on the right setting. Though I still would not recommend freezing any part of yourself or others without very good reason!

Ha ha. Oh no, no! I am just putting things back how they were. I mean any scientific experiment could be viewed that way because you might be playing with the rules of the world I suppose but becoming a god is certainly not my goal.

[That earns a less excited, but more sincere, smile.]

You're very humble to think that way. Regardless, I'm sure future generations will appreciate your accomplishments. I worry that my girls won't get to enjoy the same sights and animals as I have. Hopefully someone like you exists in my home too.

I think it's pretty normal weather. I know that I wasn't dressed properly when I got here, that's for sure.

[ There's a pale-skinned female on the other end of the video feed with bright blue hair and red eyes, dressed in casual clothing since it's still too cold for her usual outfit. ]

A question on climate does come to mind, if atmospheres--the thing itself and the measurement of pressure--fall within your wheelhouse.

14.7 psi is the standard on Earth at sea level, correct? Owing to the pressure exerted by the column of air above us. If that column were to be shortened, as though the heavens had a shorter ceiling, what would be the effect?

I have encountered many Earth animals that are not found in my home, but that is just something I personally find very interesting.

Something you might find intriguing are the hostile creatures of the Favnir Ruins. When dispatched they dissipate into black smoke rather than decompose into the earth.
