Healing the 15th | Who Heals the Healers?

[Backdated to the 2nd, locked to Eva/Essei]

I haven't seen Secchan. She's... she's gone, isn't she?

[ Konoka looks like she's one step from crying, and wanting to not believe the answer to the question she just asked. ]

[Current Day, Video all / Action - Fayren]

[ The video feed cuts on to Konoka wandering about the lands of Fayren. You can catch her pretty much any place that would have someone in need of healing. Her normal smile, however, seems... faintly heavy, though you'd have to be either very familiar with her or very good at reading expressions to catch it. Even her Pokemon, who were just as sad as she was, were pretty good at having a poker face. ]

Is everyone alright? I've heard an undead dragon was spotted around here. I'm good at healing a lot of things, so if he's done anything painful, I can undo it... if you're still alive, anyway. Can't heal the dead, I'm afraid.

[ If questioned about her mood, she'd wave it off. ]

I'm fine! Really! Just been out of it for a couple of days, and need to get back on my feet.

[ It was a somewhat cool spring day, a little wet at times but with the sun peeking through the clouds. With the strange artefact that removed her weakness to running water and her parasol, neither bothered the vampire as she returned from the Chireiden subarchway. ]

[ And guess who is flying a bit too low and almost crashes right into Konoka? ] Ah? I didn't see you there.

[ Konoka hadn't been paying much attention as she'd been walking back to her store in the mild rain. Remilia had been pretty much right upon her when she finally saw her, and it was more the other girl dodging that stopped a collision rather than Konoka jumping out of the way. ]

Oh, you scared me!

[ She fortunately didn't jump into a puddle or anything like that. ]

I'm alright, how about you?

[ Konoka was certainly a familiar face. She had heard she moved out to Fayren a while back, but hadn't run into her again until now. ]

I'm quite fine, thank you... But you, though... Is there something the matter?

Hmm? What? Oh me?

[ Konoka's been spacing out a bit more, so she had to crash land on earth to actually answer her question. ]

I'm fine! I'm just tired. I've been out of it for a while, so I'm hoping to get moving again.

[ And Remilia looks somewhat... unconvinced. She had a good eye for people. ]

Hm. You seem very disconnected all the same.

[ Konoka's smile slowly disappears, seemingly deflating. ]

A person dear to me disappeared. I knew it could happen, but it... still hurt all the same.

[ Remilia's... afraid she'll have people vanish on her as well. She looks towards Satori's subarchway for a second. ]

They're at least alive, I assume?

Well, they were alive when I left the world we came from. I guess they'll be alive when I get back.

...if that ever comes to pass.

[ Who knows how long she'll be stuck in Genessia. ]

Then you are fortunate. Have you met moth-I mean, Lisa? [ Thinking of her still brings feelings of loss. ]

I'm told those sent back are put back in the instant they left.

[ The name was familiar. ]

I remember someone by that name, yes. Was she... Dracula's wife?

[ ...oh shit, she knows where this is going. ]

Yes. Both she and Dracula became surrogate parents to Flandre and I. I suppose that's why he listened to us after... Lisa was sent back.

[ Thankfully this time all he did was make angry Drac noises. ]

[ Okay, so not quite what she was expecting, and perhaps better for it, but close enough. Even with circumstances like that, Lisa had been leaving a strong impression. Strong enough to calm Dracula still. She realized nothing Konoka herself said would have changed Dracula's mind. ]

Secchan's back home now. She wasn't in anything dire when she left, so I suppose she's alright.

...it's just... gonna be a long wait before I see her again, you know?

[ Maybe it's because she too is feeling rather emotional, but she gives Konoka a gentle hug. ]

...This place is making me go soft, I'm sure of it.

[ The hug touched her in a way she wasn't expecting right then. She almost cried again... but figured returning the hug mattered more. ]

Soft isn't entirely a bad thing.

[ There's... a few people she misses having around. Eventually, she'll let go. ]

It's... not expected of a vampire.

Uh huh.

[ Well then. The number of vampires Konoka knows keeps increasing. Fortunately, literally all of them so far are better to get along with than Dracula. ]

But this is Genessia. Not sure how much everyone's supposed to care. We'd all rather get along since we're all here, right?

I suppose that's correct.

[ Perhaps she'll tell her about what drives him sometime. ]

[ Konoka takes a deep breath. She was pretty close to crying again, but it was such a relief to have a sympathetic face, even if she couldn't bear to see others sad. ]

So Miss umm... I'm sorry, I don't remember your name.

[ Had she even seen Remilia before this point? ]

Remilia Scarlet.

[ Perhaps, but it could had been quite a while ago. ]

I'm Konoka Konoe. I'm a deputy of Fayren and one of its leading healers.

I also run a little shop that sells ofuda and charms.

Ah, I should mention that I am a deputy of Everglade. It's a harder job than it seems... but how could I quit now?

Yeah. Deputy work has been surprisingly tough... But it's been a challenge I like. I can't quit now, either. Mavis-han depends on me quite a bit.

Precisely. Let it be known that the Scarlet Devil never backs down from a challenge.

She's nowhere I can find her.

[And since Eva could scry that was a pretty definitive 'yes'.

Well she's not going to presume so much as to start telling Konoka how she should take it right away. She's prone to running her mouth but she has her awareness that her way of looking at things is very different from how a young person can and probably should too.]

She... just like that she's gone.

[ It's a mighty struggle to keep herself together, and it was failing piece by piece. ]

She left me. Or Genessia made her leave me. I knew this could happen and I just kept doing my own thing and I should've seen the signs, or maybe she did a-a-and...!

[ And it all collapses. Konoka herself sinks into a pit of tears. ]

[Ah. Well. This is not exactly her area of expertise, since her usual method for kicking someone out of a funk is 'yell at them and/or give them something bigger to worry about.' When it comes to empathy... she has plenty of experience with loss, but that very depth of experience makes it all too easy for her to treat it as a trite thing.

She sits next to Konoka.]

You didn't do anything wrong, Konoka. That girl can scarcely stand wandering away from you for a day, she wouldn't leave on her own.

[ For a little bit, Konoka just sobs. She's without Secchan, and it feels like a piece of her is missing now. She doesn't even more for a while, and only attempts to rise up after she's done.

She looks like a mess. ]

I... thanks, Eva-chan. You're right.

[ She might have been a little more surprised at how gentle this was from Eva if she were less miserable, but she could barely think about that now. ]

Still sucks though. I still have so much to do... and I wanted to do it with her. No chance of that now.

[Oh gosh. When he sees the feed, Uai is about to write it off. He doesn't have much energy after suffering such a humiliating beating, so doesn't have the will to pick people's brains... But when she mentions the 'undead dragon,' he decides not to ignore her.

Sighing, he turns on his end of the feed.]

Don't bother. There aren't going to be anymore of those dragons.

Huh? Why not?

[ Konoka tilted her head, like some people do when they're curious and confused all at once. ]

How do you know?

Uh. [How does he answer? He would like to have a chance to get to know her first and slowly feel out how honest to be, but then she'll wonder why he evaded the truth from the start. At least she looks kind... So he figures he ought to just get it over with.]

[ Konoka seemed to lean into the video, as if trying to scrutinize him by his appearance and words alone. But she has no clue on how to check his cunning stat, so for the moment she'd have to take his word for it. ]

You managed to stop before anyone got hurt too badly? If there were any injured, did you remember them?

[ She can't assume he has good memory, and this was a while ago, but Konoka couldn't help but ask. Priorities and all. ]

[Her concern for the others is endearing. Uai smiles, trying to appear relaxed. It is hard, though, especially with how tired and paranoid having his soul shredded makes him.]

They can’t see or hear, so I don’t know. But they were destroyed, so I assume I was the loser. [He shrugs.]

Ah, okay.

So you have that power under your control now? Please be careful. It looks like it does a number on you, too.

Control is a strong word... I like it. Let's do with that.

[Answer: No, not really.]

Anyway. Don't waste your time with them. Sounds like I'm weak as paper here and had the shit beat out of me anyway.

[ Konoka is yet again staring at him as if she was examining him. But seemingly seeing nothing, she sighed in defeat. ]

If you say so.

[ He doesn't look it, but... ] Are you injured though?

[Okay, so she’s exceptionally nice.

Probably someone worth making an ally out of. Which Uai knows has to start with him being a bit more open and honest. He decides to slowly begin testing the waters with Konoka as he contemplates things.]

They were pieces of my soul, so... Not injured physically, if that’s what you mean. It’s okay to judge a bit, too. The fact that my soul manifests as creepy monsters isn’t a coincidence.

If they hurt people, I am sorry. [Also, bitter about how soundly they were defeated and embarrassed by this whole situation.]

Soul? My goodness.

[ She hadn't heard of soul damage since Negi had started messing with Magia Erebea. It's one of the few places her power cannot touch. Maybe yet. Though someone who creates creepy monsters with their soul might have to be more cautious... ]

If you can, learn to control it... sooner rather than later, alright?

Mmhmm.

[He isn’t going to bore her with the specifics. Like how it isn’t a matter of controlling it, so much as making sure he doesn’t screw any more magic spells... or the fact that he never intends to stop experimenting, even if the consequence is this painful.]

I will repair myself over time, so don’t concern yourself with it. I hope you didn’t waste much time worrying about my Glitches. I figured a public announcement would just cause panic.

Alright then.

[ Konoka isn't sure if she agrees with that, but she at least knows what's going on now. It's back to work healing, which means less time dwelling over her sadness. ]
