01 | Liger lost

[She was asleep in her pod for a very long, long time. She had been dreaming. Faces of friends and family she desperately trying to remember and relive the memories again. Faces of enemies she would gladly kill and avenge for great justice. Mother, The cubs. Ion. But they are gone. Everyone is dead. Everyone except for her. Only she remained.

Regaining consciousness, she arose from her sleep and made passed the bay. The hologram display of a girl in white explained where and why she is here. Genessia? No...it's not Auldrant. So everyone she knew from before isn't here. At least, she figured that out during her stay over the next disorienting week. The box containing her pendant and her red bills for money...but Arietta doesn't care about finding work or money. Is she alive or is she dead? Is she able to go back home for that matter? Either way, she lost her duel with Anise which was a desperate struggle to avenge their deaths for her family of monsters and her mother, the Liger Queen, and in her mind she failed everyone. It was all Anise fault, that Ion is gone and the lost years that went with it.

The deep heavy sighs are many. Everything hurts, but now it's no longer physical. She's determined to commit to everyone to memory. She is alone and her family is gone and any surviving members of her tribe of monsters and ligers were left behind. She is new in this strange new world to fend on her own.

The forest of Fayren did provide her a refuge away from the humans. Taking refuge on a warm beach somewhere, she started a campfire, roasting chickens, and drinking apple cider, food she found from Fayren's markets. It's a quiet night to have dinner and to mourn the loss of her family quietly in solemn silence.

What's the point of a network though? She has no idea. But maybe someone out there might recognized her, someone from her world. It was worth a try. ]

"Hello. Not much to say here. My family is...gone. They were left back on Auldrant, my world. It seems like everything happened just yesterday. I wasn't strong enough to protect them, so it's my fault that I am weak, I guess.

...I don't think I need help with anything else. The forests in Fayren is okay. It remind me of my home where I used to live."

[After that, she can't think of anything else to add and shut-off the video, watching the fire intently as the sound of the ocean calms her. She wanted to sleep, but she can't sleep. It's going to be a long night of trying to sleep.

Someone should tell her to go sleep and rest at the inn instead. Or that it's going to rain in Fayren today as forecasted in the newspaper.]

[ By the looks of those clouds overhead, it was going to rain quite soon... which is why spotting a campsite without proper shelter was surprising.

Good thing she still had the artefact that protects her from rain, or she would had been forced to continue to the Fayren's archway without stopping. But since she does have it, the little vampire is free to take a closer look... ]

[It didn't cross Arietta's mind to read the newspaper, so she couldn't have known the weather forecasted a high chance of rain in Fayren today.

Though those dark clouds that are gathering in the sky doesn't look good...and the chilly winds are picking up speed, often blowing the fire out, and she keeps adding fire wood.]

[ Remi is close enough to be seen, gliding swiftly down from above to land relatively close by the campsite.

And those clouds look very angry. ]

...How curious to find someone out here. And without shelter as well.

[ Ever hear a French accent before? That said, with her wings and her crimson eyes, Remilia is clearly not human. ]

[A native of the forests of Fayren, Colette knows the beaches in the area. She can hear the hurt in Arietta's voice, though, so she simply can't not check up on her to make sure she's alright. She's not sure what the girl has on her or if she's eaten at all since she got here, so she makes a few various sandwiches, not knowing her preferences, and throws them along with some freshwater in a basket.

Being able to take to the sky definitely makes her hunt easier; a fire on the beach is a beacon. She lands quietly a few feet away. She has a moment of hesitation, wondering if this is intruding too much, but seeing her in person she can see just how lonely the girl is so she stays on course, approaching Arietta with a timid smile.]

Um, excuse me, miss? That was you that called just before, right?

[Arietta has eaten already, her dinner is gone. She simply used the money that comes in the starter box to buy what she needs in the market. She only hangs out at night because she needed some time to think. Too much noisy humans at the inn and they drink too. She's not accustomed to being addressed by strangers or received kindness from them...or being flown to, for that matter. So considered herself a little startled when Coletta appears with a welcome basket.]

...Hello? Yes, that was me. And you are...?

[She blinks as she's being approached, holding her fonic doll. She's a bit startled being approached by a stranger. Especially one with bat-like wings. Shyly, she answers.]

Well, the inn is full of noisy humans. I don't like it. It's better to be out in nature, so I can think.

Nature's not nearly as fun when it rains. And by the looks of it, it's about to.

[Arietta appears tensed. It's her liger instinct, after all. Slowly she relaxes.]

Really? It's going to rain? I didn't know...[At that she looks up and small droplets began to fall.] I thought it would, but I wasn't sure.

Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you. [And here she thought she had allowed enough distance as to not alarm her.] I'm Colette. I'm really sorry to bother you, but you sounded new so I thought I'd come say hello and welcome you to Genessia! I wasn't sure if you had anything to eat yet, so I made these for you.

[She holds out the basket, oblivious to the fact that she's arrived too late to help with that bit.]

[ Well, Remi is still a dangerous predator. ]

Perhaps it might be worth trying an inn? Humans can be fools, yes, but there are the occasional exception. But let me introduce myself. I am Lady Remilia Scarlet.

I'm sorry to hear that... But you shouldn't say that. It's not your fault, okay? When things like that happen... Your family wouldn't want you thinking that way, right?

[Shaking her head.]

My family was killed by humans. There is someone...I know her as a colleague, she helped them. [Realizing she's talking to a stranger.] It's...it's a long story, but I wasn't strong enough to win to prove that I was right and she is wrong, and that was all. In a duel, there is a winner and a loser.

Still, thank you for the kind words. [She is surprised by such kind words.] Do you...do you think so? I just wanted to make mother proud, but after I buried her, it was hard after that.

[That's something Satou can relate to. Making her mother proud was all that she wanted when she was growing up. Unfortunately, it didn't quite happen.]

I don't think a mother's pride can be swayed easily. And I'm sure that you standing up for what you believe would make anyone proud. That's harder than any fight, I think.

[Colette is never late and never a bother! :| She stood there dumbfounded and simply took the basket. Arietta takes a sniff and opens it to find the delicious homemade sandwiches she made.]

...Do you really made these? They look delicious! I'm sorry that I'm full now, but I can eat these for tomorrow.

[Where are her manners? She tried to remember that if a human gives you a gift. And this human is nice.]

Thank you, Colette. My name is Arietta. Yes, I'm new and I arrived here a few days ago. [With a sigh.] Um...I think that hologram at the bay doesn't explain much about Genessia.

I don't know much about inns around here. There's so many I stepped inside of one. Found it very noisy and smelly. And then I ran out.

Lady Remillia...[She hoped she got that right.] My name is Arietta. It's nice to meet you.

[Eventually, as they walked together, the rain began to slowly pour, though it's a light drizzle.]

[Now this is someone who really understands. Not like Anise who is snooty and mean, and call her names, and not to mention the winner of the duel. At least, that's how Arietta sees her.]

I...Oh...thanks again. My mother...she isn't human. She's a Liger. Even though nobody understands her, I did and she took care of me when I was little.

But she's gone now. So I'm trying to figure out what to do next...

[And then in the video, there's the sound and sight of rain begin to falling down and putting the campfire out. The raindrops blurred out the screen of her phone.]

Oh no! It's raining! I guess I have to find an inn soon.

[Something in Satou is triggered by Arietta's story. The similarities may have ended, but she can't leave the girl alone either. When it starts raining, Satou can't ignore this feeling any longer.]

You don't have to figure it out alone... Where are you? Do you have a place to stay? I have an apartment that's way too big for just one person so... You know. If you need a roof over your head. You don't need to be sad and alone when someone dies.

There's an inn in the city nearby, but it was noisy and full of humans, so it will take me a while to find another one.

Oh! You don't have to. Also, I'm in the countryside of Fayren, so I have to walk back to the city and it's a far walk. I didn't know it's going to rain today.

[In other words, she's saying she's very far where Satou is currently located, and it's a half hour walk to go anywhere else. Then she realized she didn't properly introduce herself.]

I'm Arietta.

Arietta..? nice to meet you. My name is Satou.

[And Fayren is quite a ways away. Satou can't help her worrying. Noisy humans are probably going to be in most Inns, no matter how far Arietta walks.]

I can come get you. The rain'll make you sick if you walk in it, but... Maybe I can bring an umbrella, or help with my magic.

Perhaps I can find you a more upscale one.

[ Remilia isn't opposed to carrying the girl and getting to shelter faster, she'd only have to ask. ]

[A tiny parakeet has been flying around in a particular pattern. Ceaseless in its flight. However, it suddenly changed as it circled overhead for a brief while before flying down and perched somewhere near Arietta, watching her with an uncanny intelligence as if it was spying on her. While it is plain sight, it looks like a ordinary bird. But it should be obvious to long-time residents, and logical thinkers, that ordinary parakeets aren't usually the beach-going types.

What could this little bird, and its master, be thinking about?]

[Colette's smile grows at the praise. She might have been a little late, but it still sounds like she's being of help!]

It was no trouble at all, really. I should have figured you would have already eaten this late; you can eat them whenever you want.

[She nods in understanding at Arietta's confusion over the current state of affairs. She hadn't been much better when she arrived a year ago.]

I think Miss Schnee did her best to explain everything that we need to know right away. To list everything would probably take too long. There are places you can go for more information, though. The Schnee Company is really helpful for basic getting started questions and I think the Genessia Scientific Research Foundation might know a bit more on the specifics of things? I'm honestly not too sure. But I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have!

[It took Arietta a while to noticed the bird. It was so small, but being raised in the wild her whole life, she was raised to be observant using her senses of hearing and instinct.

She watched the small bird but thought of nothing weird about it. She didn't connect that parakeets are supposed to be pet birds not accustomed to the wild. Or it could be a feral one.

Innocently, she only smiled, and didn't go chase after it, but simply watched. Such a cute thing!]

Oh?

[No, Arietta makes no connection. Like most people, she would it's a clever song-bird who flew in from the forest or the city and just flew this far. It's not uncommon. Nope, make no connection that's it a cleverly disguised spy for it's Master.

Speaking to the bird, just offering a simple smile.]

Hey there. Hope your day is good as mine.

[The bird tweeted intelligently. Though this type of bird is usually clever, so there's probably nothing odd about it.

Except for the fact it seems to have chosen to observe her.
And the other fact there was a disembodied voice suddenly echoing around. One belonging to a man.]

Are you lost?

[Was the voice coming from the bird? Or from all around?

[Arietta doesn't expect to carried and it wasn't necessary. The girl didn't mind walking side by side with her. If anything, she only appreciates an umbrella to shelter over her head from the rain and so it's the thought that counts.]

That doesn't sound so bad. Please, lead the way.

[In half an hour, once Remillia finds her a nice inn in the next town, standing in front of the building.]

Is this place all right?

[It seemed indeed that the disembodied voice is echoing all around, and right away, Arietta sense this is no ordinary bird. She stood still, quietly staring at the bird and is quite...fearful of the small thing. Her instinct tells her to be afraid, but of what? The deep male voice reminded her of the Commandant vaguely.]

N-no. I got a map. So I'm not lost.

[She didn't want to tell the truth. That she felt...disoriented and out of place. Genessia is not Auldrant after all. A pause. A beat.]

What about you..? Are you lost...?

[ Good thing Remilia was prepared for the rain. At least half an hour isn't too long? ]

[ The good thing about this, is that as a deputy guardian Remilia is a public figure (and that she's dating a former guardian) and that means people give her discounts. ]

Yes, this should be fine. I'll let them know you're a friend of mine, and pay your way.

[The bird preens it's wings for a moment before the echoing voice continued.]

In a sense, we are all lost.
Ripped away from our worlds and destinies, denied our sacred right to do what must be done. And ultimately left with no other recourse than fill our days with menial moments.

You were denied your sacred right as well, were you not?

[Yes, he knows that voice well. It was the voice that he specifically had refused to let go of his mask for; reminding himself that yes, her arrival was a real possibility and what allowing himself to get comfortable might do.]

Don't be stupid, go sleep at the Commons or an inn or something.

[There's a delay in response, but that because Arietta already arrived at the inn thanks to Remillia and took a short nap. The background in the video shows she's already found shelter at an inn.]

Sync...? Is that really you? Are you here too?

[Well, considered her having a sort of relief.]

I am at the inn already.

[And by the looks of it, she's all right, so consider her well-being accounted for.]

[That's...a pretty steep question to ask of her, considering she's pretty simple-minded for the most part. Her answer took a while as it required her to concentrate into deep thought, and her response may not be satisfactory for the prince.]

I see.

[Except her sacred right, she lost it all to Anise. She had hoped the duel basing on her feelings and concepts of justice and honor will settle the feud once and for all, and it did. She simply lost her sacred right, not denied. It's her weakness that determined her fate and favor from that battle.

For that reason, she felt...she cannot admit it to the bird that she simply lost that sacred right. Though by sacred right, Dhaos probably meant of one's existence of what they are born to do. For Arietta, for her, it means, the right to be a Fon Guardian and to stay by Ion's side. Therefore, in that difference...]

I think so. That's something to think about.

[After all crossing into new worlds and different dimensions, existed outside the Score, nor it's foretold and she doesn't anything of it either, just general understanding of it as she has people explain to her the way Daathic run in the religious and political way of things. She wished Ion or anyone she knows are here to explain things, but everyone gets Weiss hologram instead.]

Maybe there's something in the library within it's books as I haven't taken a look there yet.

Oh, you don't have too! I had Miss Remillia show me the way to one of the nice inns, so she's taking me there.

Though if you wish to help out, maybe it's best if you wait for the rain to stop and do it tomorrow when the weather is sunny and dry.

O-oh, you certainly don't have to pay for me!

[Ah too late, it seems she already did.]

[And for keeping her dry during the journey too.]

[It's certainly a big help. She'll keep the sandwiches for later for now. With a thoughtful look as she listens to Colette's simple explanation.]

I see. I didn't go to the library yet, as I had seen it in the city, but I wanted to see the rest of the cities that I saw on the map. I haven't heard of those places before, so I'll have to look into later.

[She didn't want to overload Colette with anymore questions. She felt in debt to her for the sandwiches and her welcome basket.]

I hope it's not too much to ask, but perhaps you can show me the way back to the nearest town? Maybe we'll make it before the rain falls if we go there now.

[For Arietta, she has to go on foot. Unlike Colette, she has no wings to actually fly over there.]

[Thankfully, the bird hides Dhaos's disappointment that the girl didn't quite understand.]

If that is the recourse you seek, it is within your right.

[Perhaps this human isn't interesting after all. And he could've sworn she talked about failing to protect; something Dhaos, of all people, could understand.

The bird Will give the human another,moment, though.]

[Good, one less thing to worry about, since whether he intended to or not, he did in some way feel responsible for her, and only slightly less resentful about it.]

Genessia has made me a little, well, softer.

[ This is what happens since she began to be more considerate. ]

[With her being here, it simply means Genessia do randomly pull people from his homeworld at different times.]

[She sends him the coordinates.]

Is there anybody else here from our world? I haven't heard from anyone...I mean, the other God-Generals. I don't know what happened to them. The last one I was with, it was with Largo.

[Head tilt.]

Softer? How so? You must be here longer than me.

[After all, she arrived here a shy week ago.]

I've been here over a year... I suppose I was more stingy when I arrived.

[ Remilia will hang around, if asked to. Of course she'll send Sakuya a message that she'll be a bit late coming home. ]

[He leaves it at that. Would it be better for her to know anything that happened? The other question was, did she care? They weren't especially close-knit, but they had gone through a lot together, so perhaps on some basic level; all of them would care.

Rather than being a jerk like usually he clears his throat.]

Dunno, we could be from different times, and it's just us, for now. Dunno if that'll change or not.
