What: A general Velvet Lust catch-all post for May. Back-tagging in the future, and back-dating now or later are both fine. I haven't done one of these since last June whoops.

A. [OPEN - obligatory Tannusen prompt!]

It was night-time, and Velvet Lust was open for business. Tannusen could be found either at the bar downstairs, sitting on one of the stools instead of helping pour drinks, or upstairs at that bar trading commentary with the snarky bartender on duty. Either way, he was drinking tea.

His suit this evening was white with black patterning on the suit itself and the waistcoat, a black shirt, and red tie with skulls and crossbones on it.

B. [OTA - the Lil prompt!]

Upon the downstairs bar sat a small, ornate ball on a folded bit of cloth to keep it from rolling, its top half opened like flower petals and a colorful, six-inch tall hologram of a six-winged angel projecting from it. Its cheerful voice could be heard from a distance away, despite how tiny it was! (Note: This NPC is played by Squid! Here's an OTA!)

Of course, plenty of patrons came to Velvet Lust without intending to seek out the proprietor of the place. Whether to meet up with friends or just to chat up anyone they ran into, or perhaps to just linger outside for one reason or another...

Currently hooked up to an old cellphone and busily surfing the internet, he's still going to greet anyone that sits within earshot of him at the bar.

A | Closed to Tannusen

[After almost a year of planning and gathering money, Dray has enough resources to start his own business, the kind of job his parents and tribe used to do back home: being an architect.

That meant that he would be too busy to keep his current job and he needs to talk to his boss about it. He's a little nervous, even if he's smiling, as he approaches Tannusen. He's never taken such a big decision before.]

Tannusen? May I bother you for a moment? It's important.

[ Tannusen honestly hadn't been around the bar a ton during Dray's tenure here, as it had coincided with too many people the tiger liked vanishing from the world. But he was here tonight! Sitting at the downstairs bar with his tea between his hands. He cocked his head a little to one side as he looked at Dray, and then gestured to the empty stool beside him. ]

Of course. What's going on?

[He hasn't but thanks to the past Dray had learned not to disrespect authority, in rather painful ways at that. He knows Tanussen is much easier to talk with than any of the Eidion Guardians ever were, but he still wants to end their work relationship on a good note.]

Nothing bad. I finally have everything ready to open my own business and that's going to require all my time. I wanted to tender my resignation.

[ It's a good idea to respect the tiger's authority in what is unarguably his territory, regardless. Probably part of why Dray's had a job here for so long! ] Oh, yeah? Well, congratulations -- what's the business you're opening?

[Yup. Cats understand that kind of things about territories. Dray's body language relaxes and he gives Tanussen a bright smile.]

Thank you. It's going to be an architecture design studio that incorporates a small shop. I already had been working on some construction projects. This is what my tribe used to do in my home, before the war. We were architects.

Oh yeah? Maybe I'll hit you up if I ever figure out how I want to expand this place.

That would be great. I admit I'm a little nervous about having my own business, it's a first time for me.

I can still work until the end of the month of course, so you're not short on staff.

Sure thing. And I'm sure you'll do fine; I haven't heard of any other 'real' people doing architecture. That means no other architecture group can go through the gates to all the cities, so you'll have a huge edge.

Oh, that's something I didn't consider. [Dray's tail is moving lazily behind him, comfortable with the conversation.]

So far I've been working on Attleton, I'm designing the new boardwalk for Mayor Palmer and Guardian Andor.

Raistlin did indeed sit within earshot of the little AI.

Which was to say, he sat directly in front of the little ball and its hologram projection, the light of which reflected off his strange eyes as he openly studied the tiny angel.

And here came his whispering voice; "...And what manner of creature are you?"

And Lil, true to form, didn't miss a beat, apparently just happy to have someone to talk to. He lit right up, both figuratively and literally, six wings flaring out.

"Hello! Oh gosh, no ones asked me that before, honestly. Do you want what I am based off of, or what I am? It's sort of a mixture of both."

"Both," Raistlin extended one golden-skinned, attenuated finger and passed it through the edge of the hologram, his expression rapt. What was this? "All of it."

The hologram shimmered and flickered as Raistlin passed a finger through the light, the little angel shying back just a little out of reflex.

"Well, my creator based me off of him, so I'm technically a seraph, like he is. It's a type of angel.

However, I'm just a copy of who he is. Granted, a fully sapient and autonomous one! I'm an Artificial Intelligence."

Oh, Raistlin had met Szel, and the resemblance clicked.

Interesting.

"Why were you created, if you are just a copy?"

[sarcastass]

"Oh! To house information of course! And make it easier to access it. I'm a book! But... Well one you don't have to flip through to find what you're looking for. Just ask and I'll tell you what I have on it!"

And he sounded so proud of this too.

"I can even show pictures and video."

"Ah," that wasn't a surprised sound, there. "I have created something similar in the past. But, it did not speak like you."

That hadn't been its purpose.

"You are... technological in nature, rather than magical?" Fascinating that the shape was still that of a sphere, just like his gift to Astinus.

...Or was that Fistandantilus' gift to Astinus?

It didn't matter, in the end.

"Oh? Well, humans have come a long way! Tannusen has been giving me so many things to read and watch, it's so amazing to see all the progress humanity has made!" Nevermind that he had no idea what it was that Raistlin had created. Impressive still!

"Well, yes. The technology of heaven can look a lot like magic though. Most might still consider this magic."

"Most, are fools," stated as a simple fact, and with an accompanying sneer.

"W-well I'd.... Consider that judgement to be a bit harsh..." That's the grand scope of the argument here.

Yep.

"Is it better to hide from the truth? Perhaps out of some misguided hope that it will change?"

[sarcastass]

"Well no, it's not that- No I mean- most people... They mean the best. Most people are quite smart, when they're in their element."

[magus_majere]

"Perhaps the ones you meet, book," Raistlin folded his hands together on the bar. "You seem to be equating intent with result."

But, he had more pressing questions than a debate over the willful ignorance of other people.

"What are you a book on?"

[sarcastass]

"Oh! Oh no, my name is Lily." Because he and Tannusen had agreed on that being his name, and he'd grown somewhat fond of it. "I mean I know intent and result are two different things but- I mean- Most people when they're on their own aren't stupid, I promise."

Thank god for the subject change.

"Oh! Well, at first, I held all known information on the outer gods of my home universe! It was originally in a... like a real book, with pages, but my creator believed it would be easier and less er... painful, to put it into this format.

A normal book can't tell you to stop when you've had enough.

Now though, I've gathered a lot of information on just about everything here! Music, art, literature, current events both here and from Tannusen's home..."

A book with a name? Not even just its title, like a regular book, but a name. The more they talked, the more Raistlin's interest was piqued. And not really by what the book contained.

Books that drove a reader mad wouldn't be alien to Raistlin; many of those midnight and silver bound volumes in his study back at the Tower had the same effect before one could even read one entire spell from them. Only by knowing the trick to them, could one safely study them as he had.

"...Fascinating," oh good, here comes two metallic gold fingers to pluck Lily from its nest of folded cloth.
