004: Aftermath [Action/Video, Backdated to Darkness Event]

[When Vyers finally regained consciousness, it took him a moment to remember where he was, what had happened. It was lucky he'd not been too badly burnt as the fire passed over where he lay.

Slowly, memories started coming back through the haze:

Lucifer. The hospital. His wings...

He had to get somewhere safe and make sure no one was hurt. If Lucifer's spell had worked, then those people would be...!

But every attempt to move was agonising - those gaping wounds in his side and across his back. His right arm and ribs heavy, sending stabbing pains through him, probably broken when he fell...

He couldn't get up.

Vyers lay there on the pavement for a little while - he needed to call for help, warn the others, work out what happened - but what could he do like this? That spell... The hospital could never have withstood a power like that.

Reluctantly, he reached for his videophone and - with great effort - managed to open a video feed. He would have locked certain people out the video, but right now it took almost all the energy he had to grasp onto it and get it working - the device had already been damaged by the long fall.]

[It was a few hours after the hospital's destruction when the shakey video comes on - distorted by a rather large crack across the screen - Vyers can be seen lying on blackened pavement, jacket torn and drenched in blood. The hand holding the device is shaking, so Vyers is only in the shot half the time.]

The hospital, I-- D-did those people-- a, anyone--

[Vyers' voice is raspy, delirious, talking through shaky breaths.]

Ergh...! Can't move… [coughs, his voice sounding more strained as he felt another twinge from his back.]

My-- my w-wings, he took--my--wings...

[A strangled sounding sob escaped him, the demon flinching as he did so. Everything hurt. Every little movement sending a flare of pain through his body.]

Thought I, could stop him...as--as I, did before… [coughs, blood running down his chin.]

That spell, it... The hospital…!

...Gods, help... them... p-please...

I am just glad to hear that you are alive..

[Kodachi admits with a small smile. But it then fades as she starts to look upset. It was noble of him to think in that way and, to be honest, she didn't really expect that. It seemed to be un-demon, really. But she keeps that thought to herself.]

I know about him! Though.. I am upset that you considered it a good idea to go and fight him on your own! I understand that you are a demon, but.. But it was still foolish! You should have told me! I can fight!

[She slams her hand against something hollow and metal.]

We could have together! If.. If I had lost you, I would not have been able to bear it!! Did you even think about that!

[Well, he was always considered a noble demon. Kodachi would probably not be pleased to know that he had died in the past to defeat another demon that threatened the Netherworlds.

Her anger certainly did nothing to help his feelings any, especially after Lucifer's mocking. It was not supposed to turn out like that, he was supposed to have defeated Lucifer and stopped the destruction in it's tracks, not end up like this!]

… I thought that I had the power to defeat him alone, that my power would easily be enough to stop him…I did not want anyone else harmed by his brutality, as well.

[HIs voice was wavering, coming through quieter than he intended.

Vyers was so glad she could not see his face.]

I apologise, I…must have worried you terribly.

[Kodachi puffs her cheeks as she glares at the screen, but after his apology.. Well, she can't stay angry for much longer. Besides, now wasn't the time to scold him and she feels a little bad about doing that. Still.. It's rather frustrating.]

Well.. I.. I can understand that. I tend to work on my own as well, to be honest, so I have no room to speak such harsh words. But I never really felt I had anything to lose then.

[The Black Rose shakes her head; she can relate for a different reason.]

I apologize as well. Do the medics.. Know what will become of your wings? Is that he worst of it?

[It takes him a little while to respond - the anger, perhaps, got under his skin more than he would have like to admit. The feed was muffled for a moment as he put his hand over the communicator.

He did not want her to hear him cry.]

I…can be a little…reckless, perhaps…yet…I managed to defeat powerful Overlords with my strength alone…I thought this would be no different…

[He sighed, picking up the communicator again to reply properly.]

No, do not apologise. You have every right to be angry with me.

[At the question of his wings, the feed went quiet for a moment, once again. Vyers was still overcome with denial of the fact that he might not be able to recover his wings. His voice wavered, coming out smaller than he intended: ]

… I… they are not sure what can be done.

[Kodachi's gaze falls downward; not thinking anything in particular of the silence. Things can't be easy for him right now; for the time being, she decides it best to be supportive.

But then there's a gasp in response to his last words and she raises both hands to her mouth. For a moment, she isn't sure what to say.]

.. Surely it is just a matter of time! There are all sorts in Genessia, one of them must be able to help! [She swallows hard.] Besides.. Even without your wings, you are still magnificent to me.

[Vyers hesitated. All the healers who had seen him so far were somewhat at a loss as to what to do, and others had written off the possibility of restoring them entirely.

Still, those last words, were…perhaps just what he needed to hear right now.]

…Do you think so?

Think so?

[Kodachi can't help but smile a bit.]

Do not be ridiculous, I know so! In the times we've had our talk, they were the furthest things from my mind- While wings may be a part of you, I do not believe they represent who you are.

Which is my poetic and fatherly Dark Adonis. And that is plenty to boast about, would you not agree?

[A small smile came into Vyers' face as she spoke.]

Hmhm, I suppose you have a point...You flatter me, truly...

[Tentatively, he switched on the video on his device. It looked as if he was resting in a bed in the Nova City clinic, lying on his side and holding the bedcovers lightly around his shoulders. Bandages were wrapped around most of his torso, but despite his exhaustion - and the redness in his eyes that suggests he may well have been crying - he certainly looked better than he had in the original video.]

... I think perhaps even I need a vote of confidence, now the worst has past.

[Awww, Vyers! It's so obvious he was crying, but Kodachi doesn't bring any attention it, instead just keeps an encouraging smile.]

Oh.. Then I know just the thing for you! What kind of food do you like to eat?

[Not that any of the kitchens in Genessia are available but.. She can loot any ingredients she wants! That will just be her little secret.]

[Vyers was grateful for that, really. His ego was battered enough that having his tears pointed out would probably have just encouraged him to switch back to audio again. At her smile, though, he managed a little one of his own.]

...Ah, well... I do enjoy sweets, actually.

[Something his son had inherited, apparently.]

... Is that true? [Kodachi raises a hand to her cheek and twists her lips a bit as she adds, perhaps a bit too innocently.] I thought for certain you devoured souls! Though I suppose even if you did, I do not quite possess the skill to prepare them dipped in chocolate..

Well then! Sweets without souls it is!

I would like to think I am far too refined for simple souls. They are hardly a delicacy, even within the Netherworld itself~

[He couldn't help but chuckle a bit - although whether she honestly believed demons ate souls was anyone's guess - before his expression turned more earnest.]

Oh! Yes, of course, that was such a simple and obvious answer, however did I manage to miss such a detail! Ah ha ha!

[With obvious delight, she claps her hands, though manages to settle down a bit to respond to the thanks with a wink.]

Oh do not thank me just yet but tell me, are you tired? I cannot decide if it would be best to see you tonight or tomorrow.

[It was endearing, really, how Kodachi kept going as if she had known the 'truth' all along - perhaps out of a fear of looking foolish?]

Perhaps...well, would you like to come by tomorrow morning? I do hope I will be in a slightly less sorry state, by then.

[Truth be told, he was a little worried that he would doze off before she got there - he'd already been drifting in and out of sleep when she called up. He was exhausted.]

That would not be perfect as it gives me plenty of time to prepare!

[Sweets for breakfast? She could do that. Not to mention it gives her more time to find the ingredients and cookware she needs. But yes, Kodachi appears quite relieved.]

In that case, do try to get some rest.. And I shall see you again soon.

[In Vyers' mind, sweets for breakfast were perfect for when he was feeling as sorry for himself as he did now.]

Wonderful. Well then...yes, I think I had best get some rest. I would not want to be rude and fall asleep on you tomorrow.

[After giving her farewell the feed ends and she scrambles about, bringing us to the next day. Kodachi's never actually been in Nova City before, but thankfully the hospital isn't difficult to find.

To say she's excited would be an understatement, and after whatever security measures are taken, the nurse allows Kodachi into the room, she adorn in a long, frilly, dandylion yellow dress. She doesn't charge right in, however, she knocks on the door first after opening juuust a crack.]

Special deliveryyy~. Are you decent?

[Vyers was sleeping fairly contently by the time she arrived, but stirred awake as she knocked on the door.]

A-ah...yes, come in...?

[He had at least cleaned himself off since the day before and, whilst he still looked drained, the tell-tail tear tracks had been wiped away. He had still not replaced his jacket, but judging from how much of his torso was bandaged, that would probably not make too much difference.]

[The door slides open and in comes the Black Rose, though in her possession is a white, three leveled serving cart, with each level covered by silver lidss. Vyers may catch the sweet and warm aroma even while the food is still covered!]

Good morning~. I hope you are hungry, because I have brought quite a breakfast for you!

[Her tone is rather sing-song, as she's not only happy to see that her 'father' is looking more well than the eve before, but she was too happy to be cooking for someone she cares about. She pushes it over to bedside.]

Goodness, where are my manners? Did you sleep all right, [slight pause, then mumbles under her breath with a light blush.] father?

[As Kodachi entered, Vyers carefully pushed himself to sit up, propping the pillows up behind him. He still felt weak, and his wounds still hurt, but it was nothing like the pain he had felt in the aftermath of the fight.]

Thank you for coming so soon.

Goodness... I have not seen a breakfast like that in a long time. It certainly smells wonderful~

[Once he heard that mumble, a soft smile came into his face. He felt truly touched by the effort.]

...Yes, thank you.

Why it was no trouble at all; in fact it was my pleasure!

[Kodachi tries not to let her voice get too loud, but she is clearly quite excited, and appreciative of the flattery.]

Oh, you have not seen anything just yet.. Behold as I reveal my true power~. Voila!

[Kodachi raises the first lid, that reveals a platter or carbs upon carbs.]

The starter consists of cinnamon rolls on sticks with brown sugar dipping glaze, spiced apple donuts, and gingerbread coffee cake with plum jam.

[She then withdraws the lower shelf, and removes that lid.]

The main course is strawberry brie grilled cheese, served with baked chocolate croissant french toast with skillet apple pie biscuits! And of course your choice of freshly squeezed orange juice or apple juice to drink~.

And save room for dessert~.
