[There's a dark-haired teenager with the lost expression of a new arrival wandering around the streets, clutching what few belongings he has and staring around at everything. He... seems to be talking to someone? But he's not using his phone, so maybe the person he's muttering to is just himself.]

... If living here for the first month is free, and if I forego two of my three meals a day, this money should last a few weeks longer than intended. But how to afford art supplies... More than that, even with my art, how do I gain an income...

[Someone is a little anxious about the welcome talk and getting shunted into an unfamiliar city. Since he has to stay here for the foreseeable future, his situation has shifted from figuring out who is behind this and why (apparently nobody knows? yikes???) to the more immediate, material reality of his situation. He really has no idea what to do to make ends meet.

Spotting a passerby, he just straight up steps into their path and shoves his pendant into their face.]

You there! I would like to know the address of any place I could pawn this trinket off to. [uh]

Excuse me. I was informed I could use this in order to find others from my home. [A pause... Who should he ask for first... Only his friends spring to mind, so--]

Does anyone know an individual named Ren Amamiya? He is my age, bespectacled, and often smells of coffee. Or perhaps Ann Takamaki, who is the most beautiful woman to have entered my gaze. Or there is Ryuji Sakamoto, who is loud and a bit crude, with dyed hair... [talk about descriptor whiplash]

I seem to talking on for longer than intended, so I'll stop there for now. I hope if anyone knows these individuals, they would be willing to point me in the right direction.

[The passerby halts in her passage to eye Yusuke critically. She barely gives the pendant more than a flicker of a glance.]

You intend to foolishly barter away one of your possessions without knowing its value? Did you pay attention at all to the holographic recording?

[She stands stiffly now with her hands behind her back. Actually, she does bear a striking resemblance to that girl, but her voice is deeper and more mature.]

[ Cordelia stops in her tracks, only just managing to catch herself when Yusuke steps into her line of sight. She looks down to the pendant, then to Yusuke with a curious cock of her head and furrowed brows. ]

Were such a place to exist, I would not advise visiting it. Those pendants are something that should be kept close. [ Didn't you read? Or listen? He looks young though, Cordelia won't judge too hard. ] Are you new?

It's hardly foolish. I know its value, which is why I would like to barter it.

[He... kind of paid attention? But he also wants money. He takes back the pendant, since it's clear she isn't interested, and gives her a once over.]

I am Yusuke Kitagawa, a student of fine art. [pause] Former student, I suppose.

[He obeyed her order, so that at least keeps her opinion from dropping drastically.]

Winter Schnee.

[There's a faint, very faint easing of her shoulders.]

And you will remain an art student when you return to your world. Your situation is most likely temporary.

[She shakes her head with a quiet sigh.]

Your pendant will allow you to move from city to city. You may find this essential to your safety should one of the cities come under unexpected duress. And if you have any fighting capability at all, you may wish to move toward the danger for the sake of protecting others.

It is no mere 'trinket.'

[Yusuke shrugs, pocketing the pendant.] If it's so important, perhaps I can buy another one later? This will do me little good in the immediate future if I have no money.

--And yes, I just arrived. Are you native to this place?

You make it sound as though attacks on the cities are fairly frequent...? [His brow furrows, concerned.]

I doubt I will be much help in protecting others. But if keeping it is a matter of survival, I suppose I will make do.

Probably, but I'm sure it costs quite a bit to replace. They're specially made for newcomers, at least from what I understand.

[ She shakes her head, producing a pendant of her own similar to his. Along with it comes a second necklace, adorned with a winged cross that's tangled itself in the opposing chain. Rude. ]

I've been here a while. You should have been given some money to sustain yourself until you find a job. [ a beat. ] Unless you lost in the bay?

[He understands, though, and that satisfies her. Hooray for Yusuke who will not be slapped in the head for the sake of foolishness!]

Monitor your device. If the guardians are performing their duties adequately, you should receive ample warning if there is any danger to be found. Have you found your temporary residence?

[ One of the things that Sertoria tends to do when she's leaving the hospital is to walk the streets for a bit before returning home. It's a nice day at least, especially since it's warming up. However, she wasn't expecting someone to quite literally approach her.

The angel takes a step back, azure eyes wide before she quickly rebounds, allowing her calm nature to take over once more. ]

That will not be necessary, sir.

[ It's your lucky day, Yusuke. Her expression changes to a smile while she takes out her wallet from the robes she's wearing, glancing at him while thinking to herself. ]

Since I have not seen you around here, I am going to assume that you are new to Genessia. Would you like enough for a few months? I do not use my money on myself, so I would not mind giving you enough to last.

I have. Though I can only reside there for a month, correct? Having once been homeless before recently, I would rather avoid such a situation again by making preparations in advance.

[... by selling things that should be prized possessions, apparently ...]

[He blinks at her pendant, then shakes his head.] No, I still have the money. But the lack of regular income is concerning, and I believe I will struggle, so I would rather dispose of a glorified passport if it will not help me get by here.

[he really has no idea what he's doing]

Understood. As long as you are not careless with your spending, you should have enough credits to last at least a few months. May I direct you toward the employment agency? I'm certain you'll wish to peddle your art for a living, but the local laws insist that one works under the direction of another for at least a month before being allowed to open one's own business.

[Winter takes a half-step as though to play tour guide, should he accept the offer.]

For all you know, opportunity awaits in one of the other cities. No point in throwing that away.

[ someone would definitely buy it, she's sure, but she's also doubtful it would do all that much for him in the long run. ]

Why do you believe you would struggle?

[Yusuke is stunned into silence. First from the radiance of the beautiful individual before him, and second, that said beautiful person would like to give him money.

After gawping in a way that is decidedly not beautiful for a second, he finds his voice.]

While it pains me to turn down such a generous offer, I'm afraid I must. I cannot simply take money from others when I have nothing to offer in return...

[he gives her a deep bow]

Yes, aheh, to all three. Every single one is, as far as I know, still here. Goodness, they must be busy if I'm the first to say so. Well, good fortune for you, then! I can direct you to their devices, if you like.

[Ryuji's suffering from post-girlfriend depression don't bring it up.]

[So far no luck, so Yusuke's face lights up at the response.] Truly?! Thank goodness.

--Ah, I'm not glad that they're kidnapped, please make no mistake. I suppose I am just selfishly glad to find some familiar faces... [And if there's anyone he can count on to help in a crisis, it's those three.]

[ His response earns a small raise of a brow from Sertoria before an idea forms in her mind. "Nothing to offer in return"...? She ordinarily doesn't mind giving people things for free, but she also realizes that there's people who like to work for things that they're given, too. ]

I do not mind giving you the money for free, but if you are insistent on doing something for me in return, is there anything you would like to do here that would work off of your strengths? I could help you obtain a job here and perhaps a place that is not the commons.

[ She never minds helping other people, especially those who are new here. ]

I do not peddle my art like cheap market wares.

[He seems a bit haughty at her choice of words. But he's also completely at a loss, and she seems like a competent individual to follow, so he falls into step with her.]

If that is the law, I suppose there is little to be done... A month is only a short time.

[Well now, this isn't the first time Pipimi has stuff shoved in her face. Popuko does that all the time.

She looks at the pendant, tilts her head to the side as if studying it and then gives it a knowing nod.]

I could send you to a pawn shop, but you know what? I'll make your life easier and buy that from you myself! How much do you want for it? [~~Pipimi no.~~]

I'm still just a student, so I have yet to learn how to make a livelihood as an artist. To do so in a completely different environment is a daunting task.

[SIGH]

And more than worries about material concerns, what kind of art do people enjoy here? Can the medium even be said to take the same form in another world? Will this place be a source of fresh inspiration, or a hindrance? I am overwhelmed with questions...

[She turns her head to regard him with a cool gaze over her shoulder. It's not an argument she wants to indulge, but seeing as the subject seems to be dropped, she continues her brisk procession.]

Indeed. You may find a method of preserving your income further if, upon opening an art studio, you place your residence in the same building. There are more than one individual who have requested one or two modest apartments above their shops, or connected in the back. The sooner you find work, the less rent you'll have to pay in the interim.

[She cuts a neat path down the street, as people seem inclined to move aside for Winter. Eventually they reach the employment office where Winter comes to a halt, spinning about neatly on her heels.]

We have arrived. Do you require any further assistance?

[He straightens, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear and looking anxious.]

I am a painter, first and foremost. Until now I have always striven to paint for its own sake rather than for profit, as I wished for my art to remain unsullied by material concerns. But if such concerns have seized upon me here, then...

[Does he really have a choice? He guesses not.]

I would rather not be indebted to anyone through my art, either.

[Yusuke does some mental calculations in his head... and realises he has no idea what the exchange rate is for this world's currency and his own country's. Even if he did, it's not like he'd know how to value jewellery.

He clears his throat, trying to appear slightly less foolish than he feels.]

W-well, how much would you be willing to pay? I am willing to haggle.

[Yusuke follows along, noting how people seem to avoid her path, and he's not sure he likes that particular sign of authority. When they arrive, he shakes his head, then bows out of politeness.]

That will be all. Thank you for your guidance, Schnee-san.

[There's a faint turn of her head at the unfamiliar formality. But she doesn't seem displeased. Very well, she will adopt the mannerism in return.]

[Winter inclines her chin once before turning to depart, still carrying that militaristic and pristine air even until she's out of sight.]
