[How many full-fledged knights come for a stay? Lightning is armored, armed and looking every inch a servant of her goddess, Etro. This woman doesn't do weak and she is pausing only to address any who might be watching. Then, when her message is concluded, she will continue on her way. Time doesn't fix itself, you know, and she has a little sister to guide...to find...

Her job is never done - or so it feels.]

Was this your desire, great Etro? [Her exhaled breath lifts her pink fringe.] I am Lightning Farron, a servant of the Goddess Etro. If it was by her will that I was brought to this location, so be it, but I sense that someone has interfered. I must return to Valhalla.

[She glances at her audience sharply.]

The unseen will reveal itself in time.

The Mothercrystal, Hydaelyn, has tasked me with keeping the Darkness from encroaching upon my home world.

Sounds familiar. [A little too familiar.] The Goddess Etro has tasked me with much the same; keeping Chaos at bay and ensuring the world of the living and the world of the dead remain as they are meant to be. Many timelines have opened, revealing infinite possibilities, but there can only be one outcome if the world survives.

Yours sounds to be a much more complicated burden. There is only a single timeline I must worry about [ thank you, Alexander, for your assistance with that ] and fourteen worlds, though one has been lost already and I believe the others have their own champions.

[ this isn't something she talks about much at all, though it's nice to know there is someone who can understand the weight one's Goddess can thrust upon them. ]

One is a great burden. I will not count your duties as less important or vital than mine. [If that one is lost, what else is there?] It would be nice to work with other...champions.

[But so far all she has are her l'Cie powers and the powers granted to her by Etro.]

All I can do is fight...defend. I'm good at that.

Yes, it would be an interesting change of pace. It is all I have ever known, and I have always been the only one.

I know various forms of combat and healing. I am also capable to some degree with all forms of crafting for armour, accessories, and weapons, if ever you find your equipment in need of repairs.

[ and then because she realizes she forgot something important -- ]

My apologies - I am Era. It is good to make your acquaintance despite the circumstances.

We could keep each other company. For the time being. [Offering friendship is still awkward as hell. Lightning might not ever be the confident presence she wishes to show the world.]

I can fight and I can heal. I am also capable of casting elemental spells.

[But repair...] My sword might need sharpening. The armor Etro granted me does not seem to sustain damage.

[She nods in acknowledgement.] Likewise. You can call me Light.

I would not be opposed to that.

[ but elemental spells you say? ] You know black magic?

I recently purchased a high quality sharpening stone. If you don't know how to sharpen your blade yourself I would be happy to show you how. [ a curious hum escapes her ] That sounds very convenient. It is not unheard of for me to need repair my equipment in the midst of battle.

[ making friends is something Era is good at, despite her fairly extensive lack of experience with people. she is more than happy to find more allies for herself here. there is a smile in her voice when she pipes up again ]

Is that what it's called? [That is an odd way to put it. She considers herself a warrior for Light or for good.] They are based on natural events. Thunder, lightning...

[She touches her gunblade with gentle fingers, not drawing it.] Please. I do not have time, during battle, to repair anything. If I paused, my opponent would gain the upper-hand.

[A rare touch of color - almost rosy - follows Era's agreement.]

I'm not sure what to make of all of this.

In my world, yes. Lightning, ice, and fire are elements wielded by thaumaturges and black mages. Earth, air, and water are for conjurers and white mages.

Both are powerful and both are responsible for a great flood in the Fifth Astral Era, leading to their usage being outlawed shortly thereafter.

[ And she has learned both, though her status as the Warrior of Light gives her a great deal of leeway with using forbidden arts. She kills the Primals plaguing their nations and they don't enforce their laws on her. Win/win. ]

It is ... disadvantageous. I usually make sure to repair before entering combat, but sometimes such a thing is impossible. [ It's incredibly embarrassing, even when nobody notices. ] It is not difficult to learn, nor does sharpening a blade take much time.

[ Era falls silent, taking a moment to consider Light's statement, then decides she must mean her sudden awakening in another universe. ]

If you've questions about Genessia I will do my best to answer.

If I can control them all, what does that make me? [Because she can. Does that make her an Oreo Mage?] I have no intention of causing a great flood. I'm only defending myself and Etro's legacy.

[While the goddess slumbers. A state Lightning will soon be sharing as a crystal. In her opinion, whether the magic is forbidden or not, as long as it is used for the good of humanity and the world, it is acceptable.]

Then I look forward to being your student. [They are at enough disadvantages. Lightning doesn't mind eliminating one more from her too long list.]

Has there ever been anyone named Serah Farron?

There is no need to label yourself as one or the other, or anything at all. I am both a black mage and a white mage, though I can't be both at once.

The flood was caused due to the War of the Magi. The Black Mages were at war with the White Mages, and they drew excessively upon the elemental aether of the planet to power their spells. The only magic that uses water aether are healing spells, not offensive spells, and thus there was an excess of water aether that overflowed from the earth.

Give me one moment - I will check the records.

[ it takes her a few minutes to figure it out. while she's been getting better with modern technology over the year she's been tossed around various worlds it still isn't something she's particularly adept at just yet. ]

I couldn't find any record of a Serah Farron ever being on the network. I am still relatively new to this world so it's possible I missed something, but I can say with certainty she is not here currently.

[When it's explained like that, it does make sense. Maybe Lightning should be paying attention to where she draws her power, but if she doesn't use it, she might lose and that...

That isn't acceptable. The world must carry on - for the sake of everyone.]

I'll use the spells as sparingly as possible. [With greater knowledge of what they can do when the pull on the planet's resources is too great.]

...thank you. [It had been a shot in the dark.] She is my sister. I'm supposed to protect her.

You should be fine to use them as you would normally. The War of the Magi had thousands of mages casting spells excessively for an extended period of time. Under normal circumstances flooding is of no concern.

[ Era's first instinct is to think this something she can't relate to, but then Alisaie springs to mind. A sister, if not by blood then by choice - at least in Era's view. Alphinaud, too, is a brother to her. ]

I have no family by blood, but there is a set of twins who I view as younger siblings. They were both here at one time, though they left long before I arrived.

I wish they were here so I could see them again, yet am grateful they are where they belong.

Nothing has been normal. I'm not even sure what that means anymore.

[She just knows what she has to do. Moving forward is the only tangible choice.

She is silent, recalling memories that she would rather not. Her parents... Serah's birth... The day she became a sister.]

I don't have that sort of guarantee with Serah and she is all I have. I would break the world if it saved her. [Her one weakness.] I trust her to make the best choice. She has as much knowledge as I do - maybe more - but I would feel better if we were together again.

In this context it would mean a situation where there weren't thousands of additional mages draining aether from the world simultaneously.

[ Look! An attempt at... a joke? Maybe? Because trying to think of what 'normal' means to her something she doesn't want to do right now - her 'normal' for nearly a year had been having Aymeric by her side, and now... ]

Aymeric is not all I have, but I can understand. I have no guarantee that he is home and safe, for he and I were kidnapped by another realm prior to Genessia that was in the midst of war. He has yet to follow me here.

However, I trust him and his ability. He will be safe, and we will be reunited again. Just as I am certain you and Serah will reunite someday.

Then we have nothing to worry about in that regard. I am one woman, regardless if I am blessed by a goddess or not.

[Normal isn't normal for either of them. Maybe comfortable would be a more appropriate term? But Lightning does look amused. She is strong, but there is no way she can match thousands of mages!]

You must worry for him. I feel the same way about Serah. Life isn't a guarantee - we might face war or death even if we are together - but I would feel better if I saw her.

[Admitting that much is difficult and yet...freeing.]

I am certain of that too. I must be patient.

[ That gives her a moment's pause, because Era hasn't worried for Aymeric. Worried she may not see him again, or that they will reunite and he won't remember their time in Xistentia. Or he won't be her Aymeric...

But never for his safety. ]

He is the Lord Commander of the Temple Knights, and leader of the nation of Ishgard. I have no need to worry for him. He is strong. I've no need to worry for him. [ She hasn't really spoken much of Aymeric since Thancred arrived, not wishing to subject herself to the inevitable teasing about her finding an husband in the Lord Commander, and how he was right all along about them. ] However I will feel infinitely better when we are reunited.

I hope you will not have to be patient for long, Light.

[Lightning blinks, unable to hide how impressed she is with Aymeric's credentials. Yes, he might be safe, but being a knight doesn't make him utterly immune. Serah is so much stronger than her, but that won't save her from all pain either.]

I would not blame you if you worried anyway. [Concern isn't logical. It is felt, desperately, and without reason. When there is a reason, well, that just makes it worse.]

I hope for the same for you. [All of this talk is rather awkward for her.] We approach each day with hope that we will see our family and our friends. One day, that hope will be answered with joy.

...I worry he may forget our courtship, as it happened in another world much like this one rather than home.

[ See? She can confide a little bit! ]

It is important to have hope. It is also important to keep oneself busy in the meantime.

You'll need to remind him. I know that will be difficult, but if you love him, you can endure it.

[Because being strong is the only option in places like this.]
