Action
Around Genessia
[All things considered, Vlad's feeling incredibly calm for someone snatched away in the midst of battle, with no indication that his Master has been granted the same fate. Not to say that he isn't irritated at the thought of losing his wish but on the other hand, perhaps this way he will live long enough to set things right for himself.
The fact that being able to act of his own volition is even an option might have something to do with his better-than-anticipated mood. Or perhaps it has more to do with the wealth of progress and development that's demonstrated even by that projection of the woman in white and the strange device he now has in his possession that is supposedly some form of communicator. And as he begins his exploration of Genessia, with it in mind to find the archways leading to the areas represented by the blue and green jewels prominent in the pendant he has also been gifted, that fascination with what he finds continues.
He doesn't venture into any particular place, happy to remain detached for the time being. But he can be found pausing to examine window displays that catch his attention, only the faintest trace of curiosity in his expression to betray his thoughts.]
Around Everglade
[Once he's determined there are means of travelling between cities that are near-instantaneous - less impressive for one who keeps the company of mages but still something to be applauded - Vlad's first order of business is to find out why the powers that be have determined that he is suitable for the particular areas his pendant suggests. And while the blue isn't quite so prominent as the green, it's significant enough still that he makes Everglade his first stop.
It doesn't take him long to figure out the connection. And he is not happy about it in the slightest.
That's not to say he doesn't explore, and he even finds some establishments that are suited to his aesthetic tastes - but it's all underwritten by a subtle but apparent irritation that this is somewhere the powers that be have determined he belongs.]
Around Fayren
[Of anywhere he's been of yet, it's Fayren that feels most like an approximation of home. Between the clear presence of magic that bolsters the existence he has now and the general feeling of an era closer to the one he knew in life, it doesn't take him long to decide that this, of all the places he's seen so far, is the most suitable base of operations for him. It'll take time for him to get to where he really wants to be, but at least he has a goal in mind now.
And for that, he's a little more relaxed as he explores, with particular pause outside of the Cloister of Trials - he's not in any position to venture in just yet but the idea of the place intrigues him all the same in spite of his growing awareness that there may indeed be other ways to rid himself of the cursed power that haunts his existence as a Heroic Spirit.]

[The name associated with this message reads Lancer of Black. It takes a moment for the feed to settle - even as he has taken some time to try to understand the workings of the smartphone, he's still an embodiment of someone from ages past whose understanding of the modern world has been filtered through mages who tend to shy away from an abundance of technology. Eventually, however, there's a clear shot of him in what appears to be one of the rooms of the Amagi Inn in Fayren - he's travelled enough for today, after all.]
An intriguing place I have been brought to, I must say. I won't deny that I would prefer to see to it that the task ahead of me back home were seen through but I am here and I persist in spite of my concerns that my presence may not be sustainable without a particular connection. For now, that will have to suffice.
Though I do have to ask as to the best means of securing a supply of magical energy, now I am without my own. My explorations thus far have led me to determine that Fayren is the best place to start but I am open to the input of others. Particularly as I suspect familiarity is affording bias to my judgement - even the technology in Genessia itself is far beyond anything I have seen so far. Is this the luxury of a country not required to be at constant war, I wonder?
Oh and one other question. These gems upon the pendants - is there any way to erase their prominence? I can't help but take exception to one of them and if possible, I would prefer to sever any perceived association with the city one of them represents.
[He's not naming names, but his prominent gems are blue and green and he's mentioned satisfaction with Fayren so it's probably not hard to guess.]

[And it's not easy to admit that there are versions of himself more closely reflecting the legend than he does who he doesn't have an immediate outright hatred for. He can't quite explain it - perhaps it's in knowing that there are those who must suffer the burden while being more than just a man, who have nonetheless managed to subvert all expectation of what the legends tell them to be.
If he looks at it like that, perhaps they're not so different.]
I do not know that disappointing is the word I would use. It does not surprise me that bloodshed is our legacy, regardless of the reality we hail from. It is the context being so misunderstood that rankles further and that I have rather more difficulty in accepting.
[Which is really probably for the best. His vampiric Noble Phantasm draws strength from just the legend of Dracula, so there's every chance the existence of other versions could make it a heck of a lot more dangerous.]
Re: [video ; private]
Still, he's the most established of us "manifestations". The most established and perhaps the deadliest. He's not one to be trifled with and reason seldom works but even so, I wouldn't be quick to turn a blade upon him for he's a widower in grieving.
[Augustine is already quite aware about "Lisa" and the whole drama that ensued shortly after her death. Soma filled in the blanks for him before.]
The most common misconception about vampires in general, happens to be that everyone assumes all of us to be evil. While that indeed might be true for some, I, for one, don't think of myself as such. If anything, the only reason why vampires exist in my world is because of the wonders of science not because we are evil demons from hell.
[Though, not many people are likely to believe that. Even some people in Genessia don't believe him.]
I'm at ease knowing you're taking this all in stride. I was quite surprised as well to meet another Tepes.
[Which doesn't mean his temper isn't going to land him in trouble if the wrong Dracula catches him at a bad time but the intention's well enough, at least.]
Still, widower or not there is no joy to be taken from what our history has been twisted into. Perhaps it would be for the best were our paths never to cross at all.
[Sure. Because that's going to happen. Still, he has to offer a wry smile at that last.]
I suppose the removal of any form of shock factor is helping there. That, and you are more agreeable than I would have expected given what fiction has warped my history into. If such a legend must exist, I am at least pleased that not all versions have allowed themselves to live up to the monstrous beings we are all supposed to be.
Re: [video ; private]
I trained with mages when I was younger.
[If Lancer has a nasty temper, then Dracula might be in trouble. Which is a good and bad thing. At least this means Augustine won't have to deal with Dracula's nonsense alone.]
It would be for the best but not possible. You two are bound to meet but for your sake, and your sake alone, ignore him. That's what I do mostly but sometimes I wish we could talk. That man seems...lonesome.
[A slight sigh escapes him as he ponders about Dracula. Augustine just wants peace between them but alas.]
Oh? [Augustine's face lights up in a smile. A rather cheerful one.] I take that as a compliment, my good king. While I do admit that my humble beginnings were less than humble, nowadays my focus is in my art and my love for history.
[He grins proudly.]
Do you like opera?
[He's not entirely sure why he's admitting all this but Augustine seems, at the least, a worthwhile potential ally. And besides, isn't he due at least one alternate version of himself he can stand to be honest with?
Even if said version is showing more concern for the fiend Dracula than Lancer would ever stood to entertain.]
Opera, hmm? I cannot say I have had much of the pleasure of experiencing the art, but I understand you have something of a talent for it?
Re: [video ; private]
[If push comes to shove, Augustine could possibly supply Lancer with the magic he needs to fuel his abilities. He'll offer if anything.]
Forgive me if this is too forward but I could possibly assist you. A summoner in my world is probably likened to a mage in yours. I'm certain I could help. It takes a certain level of mana to summon from the Ars Goetia. That's the grimoire that houses the seventy-two demons hailing from beyond Gehenna.
[He's an accomplished mage but his love for the arts takes precedent.]
Goodness, Soma told you that too? [He laughs.] Nevertheless, I do! I'm currently signed up with a talent agency but I usually perform at local galas as a freelancer.
[Of course, the Grail isn't even in Black faction hands any more let alone guaranteed as his but that isn't something that can detract from the promise that had seen him answer the summons.
He has no need of such a contract here, he thinks, but the possibility of securing energy isn't one he can just ignore either. And, well, it's rather fitting after all, given the circumstances.]
I will continue to explore other avenues, but I cannot deny I would be grateful and certainly open to discussing how we might best be of use to one another.
[Because he will at least seek to offer something in return. It is only fair.]
Is that so? Perhaps you would be kind enough to advise me of one of your performances so that I might find time to attend.
[Not that he even has a job yet but that's another day's crisis.]
Re: [video ; private]
[He gives Lancer a slight nod.]
Of course! If you can find a different means to draw magic from, it would be ideal if it's from a non-sentient source. Again, Fayren would be your best chance.
[His smile brightens once he hears that last bit.]
It would be my honour to do so! I plan on hosting a small performance later in the month. That is if I can rent a decent stage before August arrives.
Then I'm sure I don't need to justify my actions. I am not one to take them needlessly but caution is not always the more desirable option.
[And he does even know what caution means. He's just not afraid to push it to one side where needed.]
Oh? Are such things difficult to come by around here?
Re: [video ; private]
But for now, I think you could stand a bit of free time from the battlefield.
[He chuckles lightly.]
Sometimes. There's plenty of venues here willing to host an aspiring artist but there's one too many aspiring artists around. It can get a little daunting at times but I'm far too dedicated to surrender.
[It's been a very long time since he hasn't had war at the back of his mind. He's not sure he knows what to do with himself with that being the case. But he supposes he may as well enjoy it while it lasts.]
Well, determination is in the blood, after all. Perhaps a collaboration with others would prove beneficial, in such a case?
Re: [video ; private]
[He smiles encouragingly. Augustine wants this old king to live the best way he can in Genessia. He's curious to see what Lancer will do.]
It just takes time. So, don't let yourself get frustrated.
[He grins at that suggestion since Lancer doesn't know that the dhampir is already creating a cast for this performance.]
Considering that we distantly share the same blood, you better believe I'm determined to make this happen. A collaboration, hm? I might just know a few people who could assist in this performance.
I just need to convince them.
[Not least because he has never had to work a day in his life so the notion of having to actually find work to support himself is going to be a fun one.
Doesn't mean he can't lend his support, in words if nothing else, to others in the meantime. Especially when he knows they are more than mere empty platitudes.]
Well I am certain you will find a means of doing so. Please do let me know when things have developed to a point where a date for the performance might be agreed.
