001 - Arrival [Action|Video]
Action
What the ever-loving fuck was this? It certainly wasn't the Razorback or the Rocinante, that much was certain. Not with the water there. Even on Earth, she spent very little time near water - it simply didn't hold the fascination that it had for Martians and the Belters. But now? She wished that it was nowhere near her.
Brushing herself off, she began to move out of the cave, towards what looked like civilisation. It felt odd to back in full gravity, though she was glad to be rid of the mag boots, heavy, ugly things they were.
It didn't take her long to find the hologram, though she was unimpressed at the sheer lack of information which she was receiving from it. How the hell could she work out what was going on from that? Anyone passing would see a somewhat older woman, giving the hologram a very sour look in the hope of decent answers. "Motherfucking piece of shit."
Video
[Fucking primitive piece of shit technology. Even as a child, which was longer ago than she cared to admit these days, technology was further on.
However, she composes herself as the true politician she is, before sending a general message. Any sign of inner concern was certainly not showing in any way. Instead there was someone who had given more speeches than she care to remember.]
Greetings, citizens of Genessia. My name is Chrisjen Avasarala [and if anyone was from Earth, Mars or the Belt, they would know damn well who she was], and I have just arrived in this charming place. I have received the basic information as I'm sure everyone did, but as I am still finding my feet, I would appreciate any information that fills in anything after the rather scant introduction.
[And there was not a single curse in there. Arjun would be proud of her.]

I am Lady Remilia Scarlet. I'm afraid none of us know who or what brings us here, only that the general conscious over in Nova is 'we're working on that.'
[ Her (French accented) tone is generally a diplomatic one. And she's too pale, has crimson eyes and a pair of bat wings. ]

One of the advantages of her job was that she was used to assimilating information quickly. The reference to Nova was noted - one of the surrounding cities, according to the information she'd been given so far. Interesting, and something to investigate at a later date.
She noted how this Lady Scarlet looked, but made no comment. She'd been dealing with Belters, after all, and in many ways they were barely human anymore.]
Nice to make your acquaintance, Lady Scarlet. I'm glad to hear that someone is working on that, at least. [If they weren't, it would have been so much more frustrating.] May I ask how long you have been here?
no subject
Hmm, just over two years. If you're worried about life back home, it's fine. There's some manner of time dilation here.
no subject
I wasn't until you mentioned it. [Time dilation sounded familiar, most likely something Michael Iturbi had mentioned during one of their many conversations. Another old friend killed by events. How many more?] I've heard of time dilation...
no subject
I'm not sure what's causing it, but the speed of time here and back wherever we come from is quite different. I'm told those who went back home ans came back return to the moment they left.

You are told? Does this happen a lot? [Oh she is full of questions, and it is the fastest way to get information, after all.]
action;
"...I take it that you're displeased with the hologram." He states with a somewhat nervous chuckle. While Augustine's dressed in a modest black and white suit, his fondness for lace and ruffles still takes precedent. He looks like he stepped right out of the eighteenth century or so. Augustine could easily be confused for a cast member in a period drama but he's not. If anything, he's just a flamboyant gentleman with a strange love for the Baroque period.
"Need any assistance, madam?"
Re: action;
She turned towards the man, taking in his outfit. Did he escape from some kind of convention? Not that she had any room to talk, with her fondness for bright colours and expensive, extravagant saris. "Yes, I have newly arrived here... somehow, and I'm trying to find my feet." The jump from space to being on solid ground was disorientating in more was than one. She gave him one of her winning smiles. "I would appreciate any help you can give."
Re: action;
"Weiss here is a rather helpful guide but no one wants to talk to a hologram all day." Once they were at the main menu, Augustine signals for Weiss to start explaining the over history of Genessia. "You see, this is place...is something like a nexus. A busy intersection where different universes cross paths. You're stuck here definitely by the forces that be but thankfully, Genessia is a rather vibrant and interesting realm." Augustine plans to elaborate further but right now, he focuses on the basics.
Re: action;
She kept half an eye on the hologram while at the same time listening to the other man. "Force that be?" she asked, picking up on that quickly. Someone who was in charge? Negotiation space, perhaps. "What reason do they have for bringing people here? And oh, I'm glad it's interesting. I so hate being somewhere dull."
no subject
He peeks over at the woman briefly. Augustine wonders just how the madam will take the news. So far, she seems relatively calm but he can tell she's a fiery one. Also, her sense of style is beyond anything he ever seen. He's quite impressed with her and he doesn't even know her name yet.
"Unfortunately, I don't know why we've been brought here other than the fact the spirits feed off our energy, our life force, if you will." A frown settles upon Augustine's lips as he closes his brochure. "Though, that's...not entirely confirmed. I know the City Guardians are expected to support the barriers with their essence but---" He sighs.
"Forgive me but this place remains a mystery to me even after all this time."
no subject
She was silent while listening to his explanation regarding the spirits, but anyone watching her would see that she was distinctly unimpressed. "I must admit, the thought of anything feeding of my life force is, at the very least, disturbing." Given the issues the human race was having with the protomolecule, it was more than disturbing, but she would go with that. The alternative was to have a screaming panic attack, and she simply did not do that.
"As long as you have nothing to do with the spirits, there is nothing to forgive." People caught in a trap were unfortunate, but not to blame.

"Weiss Schnee, Head of the Schnee Company, is also the president of the GSRF. It's an offshoot foundation founded by the wealth of her company. She used to be the City Guardian of Nova City as well but she has retired since then." Surely Weiss could point this woman in the right direction. Surely.
"Ah, on that note." He suddenly smiles. "I just realize we haven't introduced ourselves yet."
no subject
"No, we haven't. My manners must have left me in the surprise in being here. My name is Chrisjen Avasarala." She paused, as if she wanted to say 'Deputy Undersecretary, but realized that the UN probably meant nothing here, so there wasn't much point in using that. "I'm from Earth, but I was orbiting Io before arriving here."
no subject
"Augustine Gheorghe Vlad Tepes, at your service." The dhampir says with a slight bow. "It's a pleasure to make your acquiantance, Madam Avasarala. It seems we both hail from two different worlds but we both know of Mother Earth." He grins some. "You was orbiting space prior to arriving here? My, what an experience that must have been." Augustine has never been to space. Of course he knows it exists but he doesn't know the first thing about it.
no subject
Well, there was, but she was old enough and cynical enough to hate being out of 1G.
Video
Hello, Ms. Avasarala. I've never heard those names before. What do they signify? Ah, I'm Ted, by the way.
In exchange I'll tell you what I can, having been here a while. Anything you wanted filling in in particular?
Video
How about we start with something like how long have you been here? [Not that she had anything to gauge it against. How long was long? But it was a starting point.]
Re: Video
[And because he's in an especially helpful mood, he'll answer questions she didn't even ask! What a guy.]
The world itself has records from we pendant-bearers for nine years, in 2009. We're on, as you can likely guess, 2018 now. Though there's but one entry there; activity hadn't really started in earnest till the later part of 2013. I'm not sure why.
Re: Video
Pendant-bearers? The box that I found when I woke up? [But what caught her attention was the year?] 2018? Well... shit. [That was a long time ago.]
Re: Video
Yes, the very same. Is that a bad year?
Video
I wouldn't know. It was about 350 years ago.
Re: Video
Eheh, glad to see Earth held out so long. Suppose things will seem a little less contemporary, eh? Unless you go to Nova City.
Video
Well, it's been close a few times. And what is so different about Nova City?
Re: Video
Oh, I rather meant that living in a far-flung future would mean Nova City would be more familiar to you, not less. More automation, many more things in the air rather than earthbound, and so on.
