Eighth Scoop: Interpretations [Video]

[ Neopolitan comes onto the screen, obviously recorded by someone else since her hands are empty, in her usual outfit. She stands in front of a large crowd with signs and angry faces. Some signs read "We deserve to be heard!", "Speak up for the Unspoken", and a few other signs in actual sign language. There is a microphone, but it seems to be set up for her device, since that's where the voice for her gloves comes from.

"We need a voice, and you need us because we basically pay your salary. These fine people are fed up with the lack of action from all cities when it comes to sign language interpretation. We can't rely on typing. It's not a logical medium to hold conversations with face-to-face. So I'm offering my services to interpret for all City Guardians and other high ranking officials during important press conferences and the like. We shouldn't have to wait hours, or even days, for an interpretation of what was just said during a live broadcast.

And let's face it: closed captioning sucks.

We won't stop just with sign language, but expand with Braille, too. We need just as much access to communications as those without disabilities."

There's applause, both audible and visual as Neo steps off her literal soap box. She'll rally in every city if she has to! ]

[ A light bulb goes off in her head. ]

It can't be that hard to create sign language to text/speech, right? I have gloves that can do it, but they're specially designed for me to use.

It shouldn't be too difficult for a breathtakingly mad genius, which fortunately, I am one of the best.

I'd like to see those gloves. It sounds like interesting technology.

[ Neo will definitely arrive to the cafe, on time, and already sitting with a mocha with lots of whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top. If this person doesn't show up soon she'll have to order something else, or go somewhere to get ice cream and bring it back to the cafe. She idly looks at the gloves Mewtwo created for her, wondering how this random person could possibly recreate something like it. ]

[he shows up about half an hour later, jacket covered in random feathers. It's probably best not to ask.]

There you are. Nice to meet you. Are these the gloves? May I see them?

[ She's not even going to ask about the feathers, but Neo does give him a look for being late. In that half an hour, she did go get that ice cream. Although outside food isn't allowed, she managed to convince them. By making a perfect prismatic image of a new mocha for her to enjoy. No one would be the wiser.

Since she's wearing the gloves, Neo looks to them before looking back at the stranger. Straight to the point. That's definitely appreciated, but she can't help but be wary of anyone that wasn't Roman. Neo removes one and hands it to him, with a look of 'don't try anything funny'. ]

Sorry I'm late. Got stuck over the freeway. [don't ask]

[He lifts up the glove]

Ahh interesting technology this... [he peers at it this and that way, not bothering to remove his sunglasses] Can you demonstrate them for me again?

[ Neo takes the glove back, looking over him to see how the feathers could possibly have anything to do with the freeway. She didn't want to know for the moment, so she put on the glove and started making signs after balling up her fists once to get them to sync with her device.

"The lag between the signing and speech is pretty minimal." ]

[he watches]

You know if you implanted telepathic circuitry in that thing it would be near instantaneous.

[ Just the word implant has Neo raising an eyebrow.

"Does that involve cracking a few skulls open?"

If it's for the sake of science, she can help with that... ]

[ L3-37 scrutinizes her for a while before her hands start to move in Genessian sign language, one of the languages she has been learning since her arrival in Nova City. ]

I hope you are going to make them pay you for your translation services.

[ Safe to say that Neo is impressed that someone else can use sign language. Finally!

"Of course! I don't do anything without a price." ]

[ She mock salutes Neo, pleased by her pleasant surprise. ]

Good. I don't believe in rewarding people's laziness. That will just make them lazier. Are you an activist fighting for accessibility?

[ "That, and I like to make people's lives harder than they are."

Which is quite easy to do.

"Besides, it's annoying having hardly anyone put in some effort to learn sign language. All this tech and we haven't gotten that far? Sounds like discrimination.

And a lawsuit."

Can she sue all the cities for discrimination? Neo is seriously pondering the idea. ]

[ She pauses, processing. ]

I'm not sure what I can do, I don't know a lot about the laws here, but if you need help I'll help. Suing the government sounds fun!

[ "...let's do it. We can figure it out along the way. People make lawsuits all the time, so it can't be that hard."

She might have just made a new friend. :D Giving hell to the government with like minded people is always fun.
