Wake Me Up Inside
WHO: Lucifer, Orihime Inoue
WHAT: After the devastation at the hospital and the horrible tragedy that resulted from Orihime's powers backfiring, she flees the city, and wakes up somewhere unfamiliar. There might be a werewolf in here somewhere. AND THE DEVIL.
WHEN: July 18th, 2014 - Backdated
WHERE: Lucifer's Mansion - Everglade
NOTES: Anyone passing within the vicinity of the mansion over the next several weeks will be guaranteed to have a nightmare the next time they go to sleep. Be forewarned.
She'd run until her legs could no longer support her. Collapsing to the ground, she felt damp earth on her palms, and wedged into her blood-stained fingernails. It was his blood. She'd killed him, murdered him with her powers. The look of shock and pain on his face wouldn't leave her mind. Even as she lay collapsed, she wanted to keep running, and her muscles twitched in a failed effort to spur her flight. She didn't know where she was, and she didn't know where she was going. Her worst fears had come true: she'd gone crazy, and killed someone she cared about. He'd worked so hard to overcome his distrust of humans, opened up to her, even took off his mask in her presence. And she'd killed him.
She sobbed hoarsely, her lungs burning, her throat dry, and curled up on her side. Her head was spinning, and blood seemed to be spreading out from her hands to seep into the ground. Orihime couldn't tell if she was hallucinating or not. Killing Adam might have been a hallucination too, but she didn't think so. The stark reality of what she'd done, and the gritty details too harsh and real to be denied, made her certain of her sin. She'd killed the one person who needed her more than anyone else, betrayed his trust and faith.
She was a monster.
At some point, she blacked out. She wasn't sure when it happened, but she remembered feeling a rising dread as the inky darkness crept over her vision, and a soft chilling voice seemed to whisper in her ear.
Hush.
When she awoke, she didn't smell blood or dirt. She smelled clean linen and....wet dog?
And everything around her felt soft. She cracked open her eyes, feeling a dreadful thirst, and found herself staring at a white pillow, silk bedsheets, and a heavy down comforter draped over her exhausted body. The room's furnishings were old, but elegant, indicating wealth. She'd never seen this place before in her life. Rubbing at her eyes, she made herself wrestle up to one elbow so she could blink blearily at the beautiful bedroom. Had she claimed this herself? Or had someone taken her in...?
She hoped it wasn't the latter. An act of kindness could prove deadly with her in the state she was in now. This home definitely belonged to someone, so she couldn't stay.
With a newfound urgency, Orihime swung her legs out of bed, and promptly fell on the floor. Her legs were so terribly sore! Nonetheless, she grit her teeth and pulled herself upright. She had to go, somewhere far away from people so she wouldn't end up hurting anyone else.

Before more could hope to cause more trouble for Lucifer, he decided to disappear on everyone. He was too tired already and he needed rest. He reappeared not too far from the L Mansion when he saw Miss Inoue running and panting from a distance. She looked troubled. More troubled than when he had left her be in the hospital. She didn't look injured either. With everything that happened, Lucifer wasn't able to monitor everything happening within Miss Inoue and in her immediate surroundings.
When he saw her faint, he scooped her in his arms a few moments later and carried her home with him. She had a power within her that if he was able to tap, would have a lovely destructive potential. She was useful and at the same time, she was fragile. She needed someone to care for her.
He brought her to his bedroom. Using some of his arcane magic, he easily swept the dirt and visible injuries from her body. Afterwards, he replaced her clothing with a loose shirt he had lying within his room. Then he tucked her in. He remembered millions of years ago when he ran away from his sealed fate. He was just like her. All he could do was run, fly, scream and cry. He needed someone to take him in and say that everything was going to be alright. But nobody gave him that pleasure. No one gave him a haven to hide in. So instead, he created one and built walls to protect his fragile heart. A place where he can be safe. A place which he was now giving to Miss Inoue.
It was hard to ignore all the ruffling against his silk sheets. It was harder still to ignore the loud thud when Miss Inoue's body connected with the floor. He was sitting in the corner of the room with his back resting completely on a large ornate chair. "I wouldn't get up if I were you, Miss Inoue.", he drawled loud enough so she can hear his voice. Once lightning strikes not too far from where they were, Orihime will see the outlines of his face as light is cast in from the large windows of his bedroom. She'd notice both of his eyes were closed. She'd also notice a gargantuan werewolf sprawled beside Lucifer's feet. His red eyes watching Miss Inoue's every movement.

It was actually kind of cute.
She lifted her gaze to Lucifer's face once more. He was probably one of the last people she expected to see. She relaxed a little, clutching loosely at the collar of her shirt. She didn't question where she'd got it, since it seemed pretty obvious. Orihime was also not all that put out knowing that he was likely the one who changed her clothes. He didn't act like a pervert. If anything, she imagined him doing it with clinical detachment.
"I shouldn't stay here," she finally continued, eyes falling to the floor. "I'd just be a danger to you, and anyone else nearby. But thank you for taking care of me." She bowed quietly.

"You seem to be upset to find I took you in?", he asked calmly. Upon hearing the question, Lycaon flopped his face above his paws with his large red eyes looking at Orihime. As if the werewolf was asking her if she regrets finding a home here with them. After all, his wolf was very anti-social, but he adored those people whom he and his master trusted.
"Where will you go? Will you find a home with someone else and kill them?" It wasn't hard to assume what happened to Orihime based on her body language, words, and how she looked like after the event. She had bravery in her when she was contesting his actions. But when she fainted, she had none of that bravery on her. Something horrifying happened, and he knew why.

Her eyes were wide as she looked at him. Then the sight of him began to blur as her eyes filled with hot tears. She sank back against the bed, hugging her arms and digging her fingers into the sleeves of her shirt. Adam. She couldn't get his face out of her mind, etched with pain and shock. She'd beat at the shield with all of her strength, but it wouldn't break, and it wouldn't stop opening up wound after wound, injury after injury. There had been so much blood. What a horrible way for her friend to die.
"I don't know where I'm going to go," she admitted, her voice breaking. She'd given up hope on ever being sane again. With her powers, she'd murdered the person who had saved her life. She had little doubt that Lucifer would meet the same fate if he tried to help her. "But I don't think I deserve a home after what happened. How could I live with myself...after doing something so awful...?"

"Are you an idiot? You have no options and nowhere to go. Knowing that, why leave?", he asked coldly. It was the truth. If she didn't know where to go, why would she bother leaving?
As if affirming his words, Lycaon stood up, climbed towards the bed and placed his great weight on Orihime's lap. His strong tail wagging back and forth as he rested his head on top of his paws. There he pretended to sleep. As if telling Orihime he didn't want her to go anywhere.
"The question is Miss Inoue, why did you do it? And did you have a choice?"

She closed her eyes, and draped over Lycaon. He reminded her a lot of her Mightyena.
"Because I don't want to hurt anybody," she answered Lucifer. "I never wanted that. But I took his life, and betrayed his trust in me. I was human, a race he didn't want anything to do with. We became friends. He even saved me when the hospital collapsed, but I...I...!" Her expression tightened as the tears spilled down her face again. "What does it matter if I had a choice or not?!" she sobbed. "I couldn't control it! I killed Adam-san! He died and I was the one who did it. It wasn't an accident!" Her shoulders shook as she buried her face in the werewolf's fur. "If I did that to my friend, someone I cared about with all my heart, what guarantee do you have that I won't do it to you too? Or your dog? I've lost control of myself, and I can't get it back!"

"You've been troubled since you came to your senses, weren't you?", Lucifer asked with a low drawl. His silver eyes slowly opened. His lids seemingly sleepy. "You've been anxious since you woke up. Yet, I am still alive. My werewolf is still alive as well."

She took a few moments to collect her senses. Her eyes were red, and her nose was running. Orihime might be a pretty girl, but she wasn't a pretty cryer. She never had been.
"...You're the other voice that was talking to me in the hospital," she said after a moment. She hadn't recognized it at the time, but the calm intonations were resonating with more familiarity as he spoke. "The one that told me to save myself." Orihime looked over at him. She made no accusations; she just wanted to see if he would verify it. If she'd been selfish and listened to him, then Adam might still be alive. He never would have had to pull her out of the collapsing hospital.

Lucifer just looked back at her sleepily. No malicious intent. Cold, unemotional and lacked hatred. He knew how it felt to be judged by all of creation for acts of self-preservation. He knew how to live millions of years full of emotional burden that in the end, it kills everything in you. Nothing good remained in him. The only thing he had left was the desire to ensure that the angel he loved most would free herself from her cage. For her to destroy all those he hated.
Lucifer nodded at Orihime. "Had you saved yourself then, I wonder what would happen.", he stated plainly. Though slowly his eyes wakened bit by bit by their discussion. "Then again, I wonder who that other voice was and why you're slowly slipping away because of it"

The original owner of the voice had been erased from existence two years ago, wiped out of reality with the combined willpower of several people bent, literally, on the wicked being's destruction.
"I kept thinking, with time, it would get better. I just needed to distance myself from those memories." She shook her head. She'd been wrong, and it had proved to be fatal. "My powers reverse time, Lucifer-san. I could erase something from ever existing if I really tried. And I'm going mad. There's not going to be anything left of me before long, because I can't stop this." She shook her head slowly. "You can't either."

Lucifer watched the emotional turmoil within Orihime and noticed how it showed in the way her body moved and the way her eyes betrayed her. Still, his silver eyes remained cold and distant. It was not for him to show useless emotions. "Why do you run from it? What ever is inside you is trying hard to consume you. Why not consume it yourself? You are stronger than you know. Wield this power instead of running away from it"
no subject
"But it doesn't work here. I guess it's so I stay here instead of leaving for other places. I don't have that kind of strength anymore, though."
