[ The blue-haired girl on the screen looks mildly annoyed, as if it's just barely under the surface and she's trying her best to keep herself composed. She is, after all, a princess. She was taught to keep her composure, even in the worst situation and while this isn't the biggest mess she's been in? It still sucks, for a variety of reasons. One of which is the temporary housing she finds herself in, but that's a rant for another day. ]
Evie Grimhilde, hi. Pleasure to meet you, I'm sure.
[ At least she's telling the truth, there. ]
I'm familiar with this whole 'in the wrong universe' situation. I spent a year in a wild west colony on another planet. Showed up there outside their Customs and Processing building while I'd been on the way to classes.
This time around, I was on my way home and suddenly, I'm here. I had someone traveling with me and I'm hoping they're here, too.
[ She shifts some on the twin bed she's seated on, trying to find a way to sit comfortably but not quite managing. Or maybe she's just stressed from her interrupted trip. ]
His name is Jack Kelly. You'll know if you met him. He's tall, dark hair, blue eyes, muscular.
[ And she's clearly fond of this guy. ]
And a bit rough around the edges, but friendly. If you've seen him, let me know. It'd be nice to be in an unfamiliar place with someone familiar. I know, the likelihood of that happening are slim to none. But, one can't help but hope.
[ That being said: ]
In the mean time, I was wondering what people could tell me about employment opportunities. I'm fantastic at cooking and sewing. I had my own custom clothing store back in New Dodge, the place I was before here. I'm also interested in chemistry. Straight A student back in Auradon and I helped with a crisis or two in the aforementioned space colony. If anyone has job suggestions, please let me know. I don't sit idle very well.
[ With that, she shuts her feed down and sighs, frowning some to herself. N o p e. She likes none of this goblin refuse. ]

VERY AGGRESSIVE VIDEO
[The young man that explodes onto the network is pissed off--but the brightness of his eyes betrays something else...something Evie's doing a far better of holding together than he is.]
Get one thing straight right now, sister: if you ain't safe at home? You damn sure bettah be right here wit' me, so where do you get off disappearin' like dat, hah? Hah?!?
Now listen here, you dizzy dame: lookin' fer youse gonna take too long. I'm walkin' right da hell outside, and you bettah be out there fast so's I can kiss you hello, 'cause if you ain't? I'm haulin' you back ta my room fer a month a'Sundays, and I ain't lettin' you outta my damn sight, you hear me?!
VIDEO: don't mind her. she doesn't take to being bossed very well.
[ Not even a question and it'd even be said in a vaguely dangerous tone, accompanied by an equally problematic and dangerous upward tick of her left eyebrow. But she's teasing. And playing. And just way too overjoyed to be angry, even if she is messing with him. ]
You can try that again, and I'll be right outside.
[ Lies. She's getting off of that uncomfortable twin bed and heading outside of her cramped room.
Slowly, so as to mess with Jack. But this slow isn't going to last very long. She's missed him and was in a panic over not knowing where he is. ]
VIDEO: S'ok. Jack only pretends he's good at bossing. XD
[Scoffing at the princess who could kick his ass? You bet your life. Is he scared of her?
...well, yeah, but that's never stopped him before. Never mind, he's already on the move.]
Shake a leg, sister--you know I can get real nasty when someone comes between me 'n my best girl. Someone gets in my way in these halls? I'm knockin' 'em down.
Re: VIDEO: S'ok. Jack only pretends he's good at bossing. XD
[ There's an unsaid 'that I love you' at the end of that, but she hasn't quite gotten up the guts to say it just yet. It's there in everything she does and ever has done for him, and in every smile and glance she's ever given him. Especially after meeting EJ and seeing how Other Jack and Other Evie treated each other.
So she's out her front door quickly, looking up and down her hallway for Jack. For any sign of that loud, abrasive, perfectly flawed boy that she loves so much. ]
I have no idea where I could possibly find you, so you should help me out.
Re: VIDEO: S'ok. Jack only pretends he's good at bossing. XD
[However, as he says it there's a distant echo, the voice on the phone clashing with a voice down the hall on a delay in a jumble of sound that's all Jack Kelly.
Angry and frustrated newsie at three o'clock.]
video: man, these two are perfect for each other and I can't.
There's really no stopping the laughter, even with the hand that goes over her mouth as soon as she's steady on her feet again. ]
Blue-Eyes!
[ She's so happy to see him, it's ridiculous. All she can get out is the first thing she's ever called him, her nickname for him now and forever. ]
Less Aggressive No Less Intense Video
[ Regina's staring at the girl on the screen, and she doesn't dare blink or even breathe in case she disappears again.
She'd swept into Regina's life in a blaze of beautiful blue, turned her heart upside down, and then there'd been Mal, and Jay, and Carlos-- and then Other Evie, Other Jack, little EJ who had called her Nana.
And then in the time it had taken to deliver her unexpected family to their safe new home, the first Evie had left again, taking a huge chunk of Regina's heart with her. She'd planned to visit, and then she'd wound up here somehow. Alone again and too desolate about it to do anything but decide she absolutely wasn't staying a minute longer than she had to in this common room.
Just now, two days into self-pity binge that had gotten old, she'd turned on the network and there was that beautiful face again. But no mention of her. Did this Evie even know her?
Her heart beats wild and desperate with the need for this to be the daughter she didn't have, and her eyes are bright with tears she refuses to shed, even as she combs her fingers through her hair. ]
Do you... do you know me?
video:
Of course I know you.
[ There it is, that joy that only Evie could express in her full body way. She's grinning from ear to ear, practically glowing with how happy she is to see Regina. And with Jack here, too, she's feeling more at ease. Not entirely down with the room she's in, but she can overlook it in favor of familiar and loved faces. And Regina's was certainly a very loved face. ]
Regina, one of the best people I know. I'm so glad you're here.
Re: video:
When I got back from settling your sister and EJ and Jack and you were gone...
[ She shakes her head, not quite unseating the lizard sitting on her shoulder with its feet tangled in her. It doesn't matter now. ]
I'm glad you're here too, sweetheart. Where are you? I'll come to you.
Re: video:
[ That's not an unpleasant surprise. It's an amused one. Of course Mal's mother is here. Evie is amused. ]
I'm sorry about that. I should have let you know. Just, Mal had been keeping secrets from me. Me! Her best friend for the past four years. When Mal disappeared and I didn't have answers, I had to go. Jack came with me.
Oh! Speaking of..he's here, too. We're both in temporary accommodations. They're...certainly uh...
[ If you can't say anything nice...frown a bit about it. ]
...they remind me of home. Just cleaner, and less crawling with villains and henchmen.
[ She hopes. ]
Re: video:
That's about the best you're going to get from her, Evie.
But Regina's much more expressive. ]
If you ever take off on me like that again... [ It's clear she was hurt and is angry, but there's not a shred of threat in her voice. Just maternal protectiveness and the anger can't hold a candle to love and relief she feels at seeing Evie. ] I'll come after you.
You and Jack.
[ Her lips purse into a small tight frown. ] Don't say the room number. Text it to me. I don't want anyone viewing this feed to know where to find you.
I'm in temporary housing for the moment, but we're not staying her. Tomorrow, the three of us will have breakfast and go find a house. Maybe one big enough for if Mal and the boys come, too.
Re: video:
[ So, there. At the mention of temporary housing, the semi-spoiled part of Evie comes out in the look on her face. ]
Can we please? A big one for all of us? I can't stay here too long. It's driving me nuts.
[ Hang on. ]
That...sounds a lot more snobby than I wanted it to. But I'm sure you understand.
[ Sending her room-number! ]
Re: video: -> Action (prose pretty please)
As soon as she gets the room-number, she smiles softly and nods. ] Don't go anywhere.
[ The screen fills up with purple and then goes blank.]
* * *
Regina's heart wouldn't stop racing but she didn't care if she couldn't catch her breath. She needed to see Evie, right now, face to face. So she knocked on the door, waiting impatiently while Maleficent scampered down her arm and into her pocket.
"Evie?"
Action: For you? Anything!
She has no words for Regina when she gets there just yet. Just a hug first, the best hug one Evie Grimhilde can manage, the smile on her face most likely permanent.
"Hello, lovely."
Re: Action: For you? Anything!
"I love you, too, Evie." The backs of her fingers brush Evie's cheek. "Hello, sweetheart."
Action: BEST FAMILY HANDS DOWN
"It's so good to see you."
Re: Action: BEST FAMILY HANDS DOWN
It was strange now, to try to talk like everything hadn't changed. Like they hadn't found each other in two worlds, now, as if the threads of fate or True Love were binding them together. She didn't know what to say, so she said what she felt.
"I'm starting to feel related to the Charmings after all. This is what they do. They find each other." And she felt that, yes, she would do whatever she had to to find Evie now.
Re: Action: BEST FAMILY HANDS DOWN
Evie was sure she'd hunt through the universes to find Regina again if they got separated. This woman was Mother, even if she hadn't said it out loud. But boy did she feel it.
"I'd say come in, but these rooms are cramped and I'd like to be outside, if you don't mind."
Re: Action: BEST FAMILY HANDS DOWN
"The Shrine has gardens. Shall we check them out? Maybe find some coffee along the way?" This also felt awkward, but only because Regina didn't plan outings. Walking and talking with Evie would be perfectly natural.
Re: Action: BEST FAMILY HANDS DOWN
"I'm more than fine with that. Just give me a moment to leave a note for Jack and we'll be on her way."
Jack wouldn't handle it well if he didn't know where Evie was and Evie'd rather put his mind at ease as quickly as she could. So it's a hasty note written on a note-pad and left where he'd find it the moment he came in.
"Okay. Let's go. I'll follow you."
Re: Now they finally get to talk about stuff.
"Walk beside me," she said when Evie was ready and she stood to join her. "It's much easier to talk that way." Then she smiled to say she wasn't being bossy or peevish the way her own mother might have been, but rather inviting Evie to be her friend as well as her almost-daughter.
no subject
"It really is. There's no shouting to be heard if you're behind someone, and no having to look backwards."
Once they were out of the Commonspace building, Evie sighs with some relief. "Honestly, Jack's boarding room was bigger, and I miss it."
no subject
She pats Evie's hand where it rests on her arm and then lets her hand swing free. "No matter the intention, a small space always feels like a cage." At least to those who'd been trapped in one ever, or held anywhere they didn't want to be. "Freedom was what I wanted at your age, too. Freedom and love."
Although it hurts even now to think of Daniel, it's time-dulled and soothed by finally having her closure with him. Her smile carries only a hint of wistfulness when she shares it with Evie. "Tell me about him. Jack. Tell me how you met and how you fell in love." He makes Evie happy, and that's enough for her as an almost-mother. As a friend, she wants to know it all.
no subject
It really is obvious that she's in love with the Newsie. Head over feet, wanting nothing but the best for him. Seeing the best in him and taking it along with the bad, accepting everything about him whether she likes it or not.
"Jack Kelly is a Newsie from New York in 1899. He was running a strike against Pulitzer and the heads of other news organizations because they raised the price the newsies had to pay for stacks of newspapers to sell. It was unfair, because the newspaper companies would make the kids eat the costs of whatever they didn't sell, and selling papers isn't easy."
Evie looks at Regina, still speaking as they walk. "He's stubborn and resilient and takes care of the people he cares for. And he's am amazing artist. Don't ever let him tell you otherwise. His drawings are the best I've ever seen."
As for how they met?
"I met him in the Merchant Dome back in New Dodge. He gave me a blue flower that I preserved with a spell that, sadly, didn't make it here. He carried the cart I used for clothing deliveries back to the shop and we talked about my home. It upset him, I think, because he stayed in a place similar to the Isle. It was called the Refuge. It was for orphans. The conditions were horrible. Rats and vermin everywhere, never enough food or room. He likes to tell me he broke out by sneaking onto the back of Governor Roosevelt's carriage."
Evie believes it, even if it does sound ridiculous.
"We started dating when he brought me my favorite mushroom dumplings from that one vendor in the Merchant Dome. We had a date on the roof of my store before I found a tenant for my apartment and I've slowly fallen for him since. It hit me how much when I woke up here without him. I haven't told him yet, but I think he feels the same way."
no subject
It also explains his 'colorful' speech. Regina's nowhere near the snob her mother was, but she's still glad to know it's historical. Evie deserves the best of everything.
What she hears in Evie's voice when she talks about the Newsie is the same pure, almost innocent love she'd felt for Daniel and it makes her smile. A little wistfully, maybe, but not bitterly at all. Although the first thing she's doing if her own mother arrives is sealing that boy's heart in his chest. And Evie's next. Him first, because Evie will be interesting enough to survive the first assault. Jack would be dead before Cora learned his name.
She's surprised to hear the hint of uncertainty in Evie's tone when she says she thinks he loves her, and it's a hint that Regina's thoughts may have gotten away from her. She thinks back over what Evie said to find the thread and then nods knowingly. Not having heard the words yet, the uncertainty makes sense.
Regina pauses and turns to lift Evie's chin on her fingers. "Trust me, that boy is crazy about you," she says, and then she kisses Evie's brow unselfconsciously.

Were you traveling with this person when you left wherever you were? Like, in the same vehicle or really close in proximity or something?
[Because data-points, and information! He's also interested in that whole 'having been to another world thing before' too.]
As for a job, the paper's a good place to look once it's out. It's always got job listings in it. You've listed your skills, but what are you interested in?
[Oh yeah, and manners. There's a half-bow, and a bit of a sheepish smile.]
Sorry, also--didn't mean to pelt you with questions right away. My name is Trunks Brief. I also arrived here with a traveling companion, except Mai and I were pulled from the same point in time, and arrived here at the same time. Hence my questions...
Re: [Video]
[ She had to say something about that. ]
I was. We'd both made the decision to return to my universe to talk to a friend of mine about stuff she'd been hiding.I figured if it was something she had to try to hide, it was pretty intense, so my boyfriend and I were taking a shuttle back to where I was from.
We'd gone to sleep and the next thing I knew, I was waking up here.
[ She wasn't impressed with this situation. Not in the slightest. ]
My interests are fashion and chemistry. They're as different as can be from each other but...[ A shrug. ] Not only did I sell clothes out of my dorm room back home, but I was top student in chemistry. And don't worry about the questions. I don't mind.
It's a pleasure to meet you, Trunks.
Re: [Video]
Th-thanks. And that is eerily close to Mai and myself, when we arrived. We were in the same vehicle and everything, but woke up here in the different pods. We did wake up at the same time though...
[Gonna be making some notes about that, as it's another data point.]
You sound like my sister...which reminds me also--
[Another sheepish smile, hand coming up behind his head and scratching at his neck.]
There is no not-awkward way to ask. Are you sure we're not related somehow? My family here so far consists of my mother from one universe, me from another, and my baby sister from a third--and all of us from different timelines. Like--how I don't have a baby sister in the universe I'm from.
[Better to ask now, and get it all out, right? Stranger things have happened.]
Re: [Video]
[ So much teasing, Trunks. His question about them being related has her tilting her head some in thought, giving him as good a look as she can get on the smartphone before shaking her head slowly, letting out a soft 'hmm' before speaking. ]
I don't think we are. But then, you have to take into consideration that up until two and a half years ago, one of which was spent in a universe far from my place of origin, I lived on a magically barricaded prison island. I'm afraid the only person I know I'm related to is my mother, and she's the only blood relation I've met.
Re: [Video]
[He's learning; being teased by Bulla has helped.]
The odds are low, but with my family? I figured I'd ask. Far as I know none of us have ever had anything to do with a magically barricaded prison island. You don't have our last name, either...which helps.
[You probably don't want his last name, Evie.]
More seriously though, it shouldn't be too hard for you to find something. Bulla has a job as an aesthetician at a yoga studio. I'm part-time with Torchwood and the rest of the time have been doing the occasional odd job or helping Mom get Capsule Corps up and running. Mai works for a mechanics. Really, you shouldn't have any trouble finding something--I just got lucky in that there was family here for me already and we're used to sticking together.
I'd definitely check the paper though for specific listings. If you haven't got the latest one I can find where our copy went, and pass the information to you.
video;
[She technically still does it but is planning on stopping when her business was finally up and running. She still wasn't sure as of yet.]
But hello and welcome.
Re: video;
[ She misses it, that much is obvious. ]
Hello! Your hair is lovely.
video;
[Soon that won't be so much of a problem though.]
So getting a decent job is always a good idea when it comes to where you live. Some of the places are expensive after all.
[She paused for a moment.] Ah, thank you. Though I might not have it for much longer. I'm thinking of cutting it.
Re: video;
Not to mention, I want one big enough for myself, a dear friend from the universe I was in before, and my boyfriend.
[ But now they're talking hair, one of her many interests, so her chin rests in her hand and she smiles at the girl. ]
What kind of cut are you considering?
video;
[She paused. She honestly wasn't sure.]
I don't know, I just know short at least. Which I guess would be weird as I am used to having it long. But that is if I go through with it anyway. [She smiled slightly.]
I forgot to say I like your hair too. It's lovely.
[Of course, Lust still isn't certain if a Philosopher's Stone can be created out of this world's "people" but she's more than willing to make an attempt. She has nothing to lose.]
Chemistry, hm? Interesting.
[She's leaning back against her desk, a few meaty tomes stacked next to her gloved hand.]
If you're as gifted as you claim, perhaps I could be persuaded to take on an assistant. Perhaps a pupil if you show aptitude.
Re: [Video]
I also helped find a vaccination for a disease that reopened old injuries and mimic'd old diseases.
[ Does that help? ]
[She chuckles warmly, closing her eyes and lowering her head for a moment.]
There will certainly be no shortage of jobs and opportunities for you to make the most of your skills in that case. You're welcome to apply here at the Ivory Tower should you wish to study alchemy and transmutation. I haven't had the opportunity to teach anyone outside of my world just yet, but the possibilities are intriguing.
Re: [Video]
[ A shrug from Evie and a grin. She's pretty proud of herself, here. ]
I'd love to learn. I've heard of alchemy but not transmutation. It sounds fascinating.
[Lust inclines her head.]
You may borrow one of the beginner's primers if you wish to dabble, and see if it strikes your interests. Should that be the case, I can tutor you further.
I'm pretty good at finding people all things considered. If you don't mind my asking what does Mr. Kelly sound like and...smell like.
Re: [Video]
[ The sounds of something rattling around off-screen as Evie rummages in the backpack she managed to bring with her and then she pulls out a small camcorder. Pressing play and scrolling through videos until she gets video of Jack talking and then a moment later, singing.
His New York accent is rough. His tone playful and mischievous. But there it is. ]
How's that?
Re: [Video]
[Matt had the grace to laugh and nod]
I understand that....but it's how I identify people first before sound. I'll catch his scent fast enough on my own. The voice clip helps though given I'm from New York myself.

Oh, but no one wants me baking. Trust me. I'm terrible at it. Cooking, however. I may have to look into Monoka's.
I didn't catch your name.

Ah! Sorry. It's Ted. [Always forgetting.]
Huh! How can the two be separate? I'd have thought the skills of either rather transferable...

Well! Welcome to Genessia, none the less. My name is Eliot Durant, and I’ve been here for quite some time. For employment, it’s quite possible to open one’s own business after meeting some specific residency requirements. I believe there to be a number of restaurants here that might appreciate some new menu direction.
Video
It's a pleasure to met you, Eliot. How long have you been here?
