Fight the Hordes and Sing and Cry
WHO: Nero, Yang Xiao Long
WHAT: It's off to Everglade to rescue the human sacrifices from a demon trying to summon an eldritch god. Yang calls in Nero, and they're off to fight. A couple of cards, these two!
WHEN: August 19, 2018
WHERE: Everglade
[Over the past week, seven people have gone missing. Nothing unusual for Everglade, but this time, there's something unusual. Namely, one of those people got away. Yang got the call through the bounty hunter network, and naturally, she didn't turn it down.]
[The survivor told her all the details he could, about the culprit, the location, and the purpose of their imprisonment. The ritual won't continue until the demon fills the last seventh spot, but it's only a matter of time before someone else gets dragged off.]
[As soon as Yang knew demons were involved, her conversation with a certain newbie sprang to mind, and she looked up his number in the directory before sending Nero a message.]
'Demon trying to sacrifice seven people to summon an eldritch god. On a time crunch, heading to Everglade now. You in or out?'
[Attached were the coordinates, because she's almost completely sure Nero is going to be in.]
[When he arrives, he'll find himself at the edge of a murky bog, still hazy with the sinking sun. Yang's bike isn't parked too far away, and the huntress herself is walking along the edge of the waters with a frown on her face as she examines a mossy tree, shakes her head, and moves to the next. Her fingers skim over the slimy bark, questing, but she isn't finding what she's looking for.]

The only thing he had given in terms of a reply to the message was: On my way. before he strapped his beloved Red Queen to his back, made sure Blue Rose had her bullets in place, and was out the door of this little commonspace he was to call home for the time being; hopefully enough of these hunts would change that.
Everglade is about as much as he expected it to be, complete with murky bog and a touch of fog. Nice, would work well for a haunted house location (they have those here right?) or something. Still, it's best to keep on guard and that's what he does even as he spots the familiar blonde and makes his way over to her. ]
I really hope you're not gonna tell me one of us needs to feel around in that.

[Another dead end with this tree. What gives? She flicks her wrist to get rid of some slime, frowning.]
This is where the victim escaped, as far as he can remember. Demon came after him to pull him back, he got attacked by some bog creature. Demon fought that, and the guy slipped away with some injuries. I'm not seeing any footprints or cave entrances, though, so there's probably a secret switch or something to open the way. If we're lucky.
[She kicks at a root with the toe of her mud-caked boot.]
If we're unlucky, it needs a secret password. What about you, got any demon radar powers?

displeasure of dealing with one of those before. But, hey, first time for everything, right?Of course, there's the possibility that there was just the one bog creature and it was killed. But maybe not. Maybe there's a chance they could get a little bit of help there. ]
How about we see if anyone's still home?
[ And he fires a single round of bullets straight into the center of the bog and just... waits. ]
no subject
Works for me.
[Her footsteps squish in the soft bank of the bog as she comes to stand beside him.]
[It isn't long before the swampy waters start to bubble in one particular spot. Then that spot begins to boil. Yang's gauntlet extends as she bends at the knees, more than ready for a fight. The surface of the swamp explodes as something large, lumpy, and dripping emerges to stand at nearly twenty feet tall. It's covered in slime and moss, molded out of mud and rotting vegetation with two glowing green eyes fixed on Nero and Yang.]
Intrudersssss... Mooore intrudersssss...
no subject
[ When the creature comes to emerge from the swamp, Nero takes only a step back, Blue Rose held at his side as he stares to the thing towering over them. When some of that rotting vegetation comes to drip down on them, he throws an arm up to try and block the majority of it before he wipes at his cheek and makes a sound of displeasure at the display. ]
Gross, dude. Ever heard of being a good host?
[ Although being called an intruder, well, guess the creature's not totally wrong there? Either way, Nero holds Blue Rose out at the thing and cocks his head to the side. ]
Look, we can do this easy way or we can do this the hard way.
no subject
[The mud monster responds with a furious swipe of its arm at the two intruders. Yang kind of expected that, fists pointed at the ground as she fires and uses the recoil to propel herself backward. A twist and a flip, and she lands with a grunt.]
Doesn't seem like he's in the mood for a friendly chat.
GEEEET OOOOOOOUUUUUUTTTT!!!
[The creature bellows, slamming a fist down toward Nero as if to hammer him straight down into the ground.]
no subject
What gave it away?
[ He catches sight of that fist coming down and, off to the side, he darts, coming to even roll a bit to which he lands on a knee, Blue Rose pointing up at the creature. ]
Hard way, huh? Fine by me.
[ And bang bang bang goes three rounds of bullets, charged with demonic energy in the colour blue, toward the bog creature. ]
no subject
[The bullets sink harmlessly into the massive creature's bulk with wet squelching noises. Yang's hit first, and the monster ambles toward her with a raised fist, but once those demon bullets spatter into its mass, the thing focuses intently on Nero. What passes for lips peel back, revealing sharp rotted stumps for teeth.]
Yooouuuuu...one of theeeemmmmm...intruuuuuderrrr...!
[It lunges for him viciously, swatting with an open palm to squish him flat. Yang seizes the opportunity and leaps on that arm, racing upward as she jerks her left arm back to reload. Halfway toward its shoulder she leaps high and slams a bullet-powered fist into its face.]
HAAHH!
[Instead of knocking it back with the fury of her blow, to Yang's surprise, her arm sinks right into the mud and filth. She jerks back, twice, but she's stuck fast. Welp, that didn't go according to plan.]
[Snarling, it seizes hold of her in its hand, pops her loose, and flings her carelessly into a tree. The force of the impact is so hard that half of the trunk explodes, scattering wet bark and moss. Yang hits hard, grunting, and slumping to the ground.]
[But she's getting back up, palms braced against the mud, rolling up to her feet. She rocks a little, but her fists are up again.]
[OOC: I was thinking the demons might emerge and try to grab one of them during the fight. Any preferences on which one?]
no subject
[ Honestly, if they weren't so damn busy right now, Nero might stand back and watch Yang go at it because damn if he can appreciate a person firing off like that.
Of course, the whole baring those rotting teeth - stumps?? - gets Nero to make a face and he flips backwards to stand, Blue Rose pointing at him for another round or two, fingers ready on the trigger. ]
What, you got a problem with me, too? Good to know that's still a thing regardless of what world I'm in.
[ But since this seems to be getting a lot more up close and personal, Nero switches out Blue Rose for Red Queen and tears the blade off his back, having the tip tap down against the earth just as he catches sight of Yang sent flying. ]
Yang!
[ He calls out to her, snarling over to the creature as he plunges Red Queen into the earth and revs her up a couple times, red sparks flying from the blade as a furious fire crackles within the blade. ]
You got such a problem with me, then let's go! I ain't got all day to wait for this dance, pal!
[ And it's with Red Queen crackling away in hand, that Nero leaps from the ground and soars to land on the creature's shoulder so that his lovely Red Queen can be plunged into its neck for a good, hard slice along. ]
no subject
[It seems as if the blade should meet something hard, or at least find resistance. The sensation is like dragging his sword through thick mud that sucks and clings at his weapon. The green light of the monster's eyes burns brighter as its head not so much swivels but shifts position to glower straight at him.]
Intruuuuder...tainted one...
[Yang grits her teeth. Naturally her first instinct is to rush it and try again, but it's too big, and too goopy. She's just going to get stuck if she hits it with her fist, so she needs to look at this with a clear head. She draws a breath, lets it out slowly, and thinks.]
[Meanwhile, the shoulder Nero is standing on suddenly becomes much softer, and he begins to sink. If he doesn't leap back, he'll find himself sucked in up to his knees.]
no subject
But, welp, so much for this idea? Because Red Queen isn't slicing this head off as he had anticipated and it has Nero grit his teeth as a tch leaves his lips rather harshly. ]
Yeah, I heard you the first couple of times!
[ Honestly, this creature sure isn't coming off as the brightest crayon in the box.
The spontaneous sort of quicksand tomfoolery that's suddenly happening on this shoulder, however, catches Nero by surprise and he tugs at Red Queen to try and free her from the goop and mess of this thing's neck before he suddenly finds himself sinking into this shoulder. ]
Shit.
[ Letting that curse slip under his breath, Nero tries to pull himself out with his devil bringer (his glowing hand) holding tight against whatever piece of rough surface he can reach out to but to no avail.
He's definitely going to need a shower after this. ]

Suffocaaaate...
Nero, heads up!
[The monster's features start to shift in Yang's direction, but don't quite make it before a shattered tree is swung against its leg hard. The thud is fierce enough that the vibrations run through Nero's feet too, and holding the base of that very large tree is Yang. It's bulky and hard to grip, but the sheer weight of the makeshift weapon isn't a problem thanks to her semblance. The tips of her hair have begun to flicker as she grins.]
[If the size of her fists was the problem, then she just needed to upgrade to a bigger weapon.]
[The smash of the tree destabilizes the monster and it begins to tilt precariously, no longer trying to suck its captive inside of its arm. Down it comes, a tidal wash of swamp water crashing over the bayou edge as it lands hard.]
[It won't stay down long, though. Yang drops the broken half of the tree, now that it's firmly lodged in the creature's leg, and aims her left fist at the shoulder joint. A twist of the arm to shift the ammunition shells, and three quick blasts of twinkling blue rockets power into the arm that's got Nero. When they hit, sheets of ice crackle and spread, firming up the mud into something more solid. Yang pauses to reload, giving a short nod to her partner.]
You know what to do.
no subject
It's the crackling ice that's truly the icing on the cake here and when Yang gives a nod in regards to the next move here, Nero just grins as glowing blue fingers curl into a fist.
Yeah, he sure knows what to do alright.
The strength that resides within his demonic arm shatters the ice the second it connects with a hard blow from the demon hunter and he only relents for but a few seconds so that he can dislodge himself from the creature and tap down to the ground. But he's not finished yet, oh far from it, especially with this creature here being a rude little shit and sucking him into his arm like that. Honestly, no manners. It's only with Red Queen held back with his left hand that his right lunges forward and that blue spectral arm manifests almost instantly, reaching for the creature's leg to wrap around tight.
And he has every intention of swinging that creature around a couple times and then chucking it across the way with that spectral arm of his. Bon voyage and all that. ]

*
[Yang comes to stand next to Nero, putting a hand to her brow as she watches the swamp monster go sailing. Wordlessly she holds her palm out without looking at him. Low-five. He more than earned it.]
Guess that's that. All that's left is figuring out how to get into the demon lair.
[................. She sighs. She'd rather fight another swamp monster than go around feeling up all the trees.]
Any suggestions?
no subject
So much for the whole the enemy of my enemy is my friend bs.
[ Honestly.
Dusting himself off some, the call for a suggestion has Nero looking around and taking a moment to simply stand there and listen. ]
Don't suppose a tree branch is a magical lever that, if pulled, will take us to the lair, huh?
[ Could that actually be a thing? Far too easy for them if you ask him and so, Nero just looks back to the swamp and all its murkiness. ]
Or a chain or something laying in this mess that can be pulled to open a way in somewhere.

[Yang turns her head to look at the bog, and the murky water that gives absolutely no indication as to the water's depth. Ugh... She's going to be extra pissed off if that nasty stuff gets into her hair. Grimacing, she gathers up her mane in gloved hands, twists it, and stuffs it into the collar of her leather jacket. She really should invest in some hairties to carry in her pockets, for real.]
Guess I'm going in. Coming, or are you going to check for more trees?
[Praying that the seams of her boots are tight to keep out the water, she carefully eases in one foot. The water level rises to mid-calf. Okay, not so bad so far... She feels ahead with the toe of her other boot, testing for anything that stands out in the silt.]
