1st Case File ~ [ Text ] ~ unicorns, otherwise what's the pleasure of crossing a wood

Searching for bestiaries. Medieval or otherwise. Preferably with unicorn lore.

Bestiary. Not bestiality. They're different, okay?

[....Why does that name sound so familiar? She frowns at her phone for a few minutes before responding.]

Bestiary books? ....I hate to state the obvious, but have you tried the library?

[....she can't help it. She sends a second text.]

...They probably have info on both. :P

I am working on different data bases. What city are you looking for information on?

If you're wondering about species of people here then no, it's usually considered rude to ask.

[Speaking of unicorns, here's one now.]

Why would you be looking for unicorn lore?

How the hell does someone get Bestiary and Bestiality mixed up? And why are you looking for unicorn lore anyway?

[Call her suspicious.]

[She actually snorts before she replies.]

Uh...huh.... I guess maybe Fayren would be the next best place to try? Not sure where though.

A research nerd huh? Then what do you know about Kelpies? There's more than just unicorns here after all.

[Unfortunately, Lily still didn't know how to take human form again, so until then, she was stuck chatting like this.]

You met the white one then? She's the one you speak of?

What if unicorns don't exist in this world?

[Difficult as it may be to discern though text alone, Mai wasn't mocking him in the slightest. She simply wanted the person on the other end of such a specific request to brace himself for the possibility that he might not be able to find what he was looking for.]

Are you trying to learn about me?

Just her and myself I think. Or so I have heard. But we are of two different kinds. Different worlds and different lifestyles.

Why would I not be somewhere safe?

[She sounded confused.]

And why would you, a complete stranger be concerned?

[She was honestly starting to feel she was safer here then she had been back home.]

I'm just going to let you know that there are several Earths out there but I'll list a few Unicorn legends and you can tell me if that's enough:

- Unicorns are not found in Greek mythology but in the accounts of natural Greek history. The Greeks were convinced of the reality of unicorns, which they believed lived in India, a distant and fabulous realm for them.

- Medieval knowledge of Unicorns stemmed from biblical and ancient sources.

The predecessor of the medieval bestiary, compiled in Late Antiquity and known as Physiologus, popularized an elaborate allegory in which a unicorn, trapped by a maiden (representing the Virgin Mary), stood for the Incarnation. This defined the medieval notions of the unicorn, justifying its appearance in every form of religious art. Some religious writers interpret the unicorn and its death as the Passion of Christ. The myths refer to a beast with one horn that can only be tamed by a virgin; subsequently, some writers translated this into an allegory for Christ's relationship with the Virgin Mary.

From there legends develop of rare beats that can only be approached by a virgin that will kill those who are impure.

- It's open to interpretation.

- In Harry Potter they are a pure beast and their silver blood can prolong someone's life while cursing them.

- I'm pretty sure that there is a Unicorn skeleton found in Germany. These are large creature that are prehistoric and don't look like horses with horns.

It's very likely that unicorns exist here but do not exist in your world. Just as they do not exist in mine.

I do not feel I am in need of help. No one has attempted to hunt me, burn me at a stake, offer me to a dragon, and I am also not currently a captive of a dragon or anyone else so I see no danger.

The only thing I need help with is figuring out how to go back to my human form but you do not seem like you would know the answer when it comes to such a thing.

[A form she missed dearly.]
