Home Sweet Home
The house that Yang and Mikaela shared wasn't too hard to find. It was the 'charming' little house, or 'rustic,' or 'quaint,' depending on who you talked to. Not quite as modern as the other marvelous automated villas, but certainly beyond anything the two girls had prior to setting foot on Genessia soil. Rather than call it the antique house on the block, Yang just told Blake to look for the one with 'BANES AUTO REPAIR' on the sign outside.
When all of Blake's belongings were packed and boxed up, they were loaded into a small half-trailer hitched to the back of Yang's motorcycle, and off she went. When moving boxes, especially those heavy with books, having someone with Yang's strength came in handy.
After everything was inside and the celebratory pizza ordered, Yang hovered outside of Blake's room with a half-consumed can of lemonade. There was still a lot of stuff to talk about, and she knew that wasn't exactly the Faunus's favorite thing in the world, so Yang tried to keep a respectful distance.
Tried.
Truth be told, she was kind of excited at the chance to spend time with her old Beacon partner, and she kept drifting back to debate whether or not she should let Blake unpack in peace, or barge into the room and talk all four of Blake's ears off. At least it wasn't just the two of them; Mikaela living there too seemed to melt away any heavy awkwardness. Who couldn't like the chipper mechanic? Yang was sure the two would get along great.
Yang poked her head around the corner, peeking in yet again, but this time didn't keep wandering to the end of the hallway. "Need any help?" she asked, before taking another pull from the can of lemonade.
--------------------
She had to admit: routine oil changes and maintenance on her bike was a lot easier when they lived above a mechanic's garage. Naturally she waited until after hours so she wouldn't get in her housemate's way or interfere with business. She sat on her heel with one knee up, loosening the bolt with her socket wrench until thick, used oil leaked and dribbled into the plastic drip pan. While she waited, she ran a cloth over the wrench to wipe away the oil splotches and scratched her nose.
Only then did she notice that there was oil staining her fingertips and under her nails. Tch... Sure enough, judging by the warped and stretched reflection of her face in the bike's chrome, she'd left a black smudge on her face. Wasn't the first either.
She chuckled quietly, distractedly humming along with the radio as she worked. "Time cast a spell on you, but you would not let meeee...follow you down...--no-- loved you but you would not let meeeee..."
Singing wasn't exactly Yang's talent. The song was still too new for her to have picked up the lyrics just yet.
Suddenly the music dimmed as a pleasant voice interrupted. "Visitor. Visitor. Visitor."
Yang looked up, her ponytail swaying with the motion, then rose to her feet and turned to the door to greet whoever it was that decided to drop in.

2.
Just kidding.
Takumi simply walks in with Fujin Yumi on hand, he expected to find some sort of trouble based on the noises and shouting he heard from outside.]
Is everything all right here? I'm here to help...
[Oh. It's just a woman. Working on some sort of machine? There was no danger? No threat? Well then. Takumi coughed into a balled hand.]
Oh... Was that you just now? My apologies. I, uh... I thought someone may be in trouble.
Re: 2.
[...And she has no idea how to respond to that. Wow rude, she wasn't singing THAT loudly. On the other hand, he did rush impulsively to save someone he thought was in peril, so it kinda evens out.]
Nope. All good here. Appreciate the thought, though!
[She chuckles. At least they're both embarrassed, so they're on equal footing.]
Come on in. I was just changing the oil for my bike. You want something to drink?
no subject
Takumi tried to act natural. Just a few small steps in pacing, getting a feel for this establishment.]
Yes, please. Thank you.
[While we waits, he gets a closer look at the motorcycle.]
That's a "bike" then?
no subject
[She tosses the oil-stained cloth onto her shoulder and stops at the mini-fridge, stooping down to take out a pair of colas in glass bottles. Popping off the caps easily with her metal thumb, she holds one out to her surprise guest.]
This? Yup! I mean, this girl's been given all kinds of upgrades I don't usually see where I'm from, but two wheels with a motor? That's pretty much enough to classify a motorcycle. Or motorbike.
[She takes a swig from her cola before crouching down next to her bike, resting comfortably on her heels.]
If you like, I can take you out for a ride once I'm finished up here. ...Long as you don't mind the smell of grease, natch!
no subject
Takumi humbly accepts the drink and takes a swig, then a cough. Too fast! Slower this time.]
Thank you. I'll take you up on it. I'll be sure to bring Ryoma here. He'll be fascinated with this city.
[A pause.]
Ryoma's my brother, by the way. Anyway, what do you do? Do you mainly work on these... Motorcycles, was it?
no subject
Lots of princes around here. Still, it's always nice to have family around. Older or younger brother?
[She has no objections to playing tour guide for the two of them. Takumi is certainly better company than that one rich dude she invited.]
[As for his question, she chuckles, tightening a lugnut with her metal hand. She doesn't even need a wrench, so there are benefits to steel fingers sometimes.]
Not professionally. My roommate is the mechanical genius around here. Her name's Mikaela. I'll introduce you sometime, if you like.
[Satisfied that her work is done, Yang picks up the drip pan and the funnel to start cleaning up.]
This city's more advanced than the stuff we're used to, but we still get a lot of business. She's got a knack for looking at complex parts and figuring out how they work. Cute, too. You'll like her.
[She winks.]
How are you holding up, anyway? You seem like you're adjusting with grace.
no subject
[Don't call him cute for that. He has enough to deal with. He watches Yang in curiosity, trying to determine what the basic use is for some of the things she uses. The technology and designs are far different from Hoshido, but in the end have the same uses.
He only stops his wandering gaze when he is told about the roommate.]
Mikaela, huh... I suppose it won't hurt to meet her, if she's not busy.
[Shy much? But he had to really stop and think about how he's adjusting, rubbing the back of his neck idly.]
Yeah, I suppose I'm fairing well. All things considered... How long have lived here?
[Now. Who wants to tell Yang about all the fights he got in?]
no subject
[She smiles over her shoulder before putting up her tools.]
I've lost track. A year here and there. Gone home once. Heard there were a couple different versions of me running around too. That should weird me out more than it does, but what can you do?
[She shrugged and picked up a clean cloth, leaning toward the mirrors on her bike to check out the smudges on her face. Wiping at them didn't do much good.]
I should clean myself up real quick, then I'll be good to go. Want to come in?
[She seems to assume he does, as she's heading toward the door after gesturing toward it with a jerk of her head.]
You can tell me more about your home world and family. Never had any brothers of my own, what's that like?
no subject
He follows Yang in, hopefully he doesn't see anything he shouldn't. He let out a quiet hum thinking about how to describe Ryoma.]
Ryoma, he... He can be as gentle as a cherry blossom in the breeze to as commanding as a thunder's roll, much like our father. He would be a great King.
Our country is Hoshido, where food is plenty and nothing is wanted. It's what peace looks like.
no subject
Oh, hey Yang! Just wanted to congratulate you on the new place!
[... Well, that was awfully straightforward.]
no subject
[She grins, always glad to have family over. She wishes she had Bumblebee, but after what happened with her first motorcycle, she doesn't want to risk destroying one of her few prized possessions by removing it from the old gate to Remnant. Instead she's got her customized bike from Smoker's shop. It's...well...'beefier' might be the best way to put it.]
Maybe you can help me pick a name for my bike. How've you been? Apartment's not on fire anymore, I hope?
no subject
The whole "not real" thing still confuses me, though, not going to lie...
Things have been pretty good! Though... Totally not sure what to name the bike. Maybe...
[Ruby glances over it.]
Burst Magnum? No, that's more like a cannon...
no subject
[She crouches next to her bike to finish up her work. Now that Ruby's here, she works at a faster pace so she can wash up and welcome Ruby into her house.]
Yeah...I don't know about the whole 'not real' thing personally. The people seem genuine enough, and they do feel things. That's real enough for me.
[She'd rather not treat them any differently for the most part.]
It's more like...they're native, we're not. That's the only real difference as far as I can tell.
no subject
[Ruby sighed.]
But, yeah, the electrical thing is dealt with for now, at least...
no subject
[As long as everyone's safe, that's what matters. She works quietly for a few minutes more, comfortable with the familiar silence. Once she's finished the oil change, she picks up the socket wrench to start putting things back together.]
Made any new friends, or are you sticking to the gang from Remnant?
no subject
open
Mikaela would be lying if she said she weren't a little bit nervous, she hadn't really gotten to know Blake beforehand and she was important to Yang. What if they don't get along?
So while Yang is helping Blake get her stuff, Mikaela is working on a welcome cake. Just a simple chocolate cake made from bake mix but by the time the scent of freshly baked cake is filling the kitchen and spreading beyond she is pretty pleased with her achievement anyway. ]
no subject
Dibs on the spoon!
[She's running for it. The only thing more enticing than a chocolate cake is stolen cake batter.]
no subject
[ She's yelling but also laughing, running for the spoons with Yang. Her huntress friend is bound to be faster, of course, so she doesn't even really try to win for real, just sinks against the counter giggling. ]
But you're sharing the batter or no cake for you!
no subject
Ho ho~! Victory. Is. Sweet.
[Smirking at her roommate, she pushes the bowl that held the batter across the counter. The bowl definitely has more batter than the spoon, but Yang would prefer not to use her left hand to wipe it up. Spoon suits her better.]
How've you been anyway? I know I keep weird hours so I'm not around as much. We'll have to have some quality girl time real soon.
no subject
She almost wants to stop Yang from going whenever she sees her anywhere near her room but then she stops. Even if she's going to give her some distance while she's settling in and she appreciates it, but it's a weird and complicated situation where she's not sure if she wants the distance or the opposite.
Not that Blake is doing anything to break the silence about it, or at least Yang is much faster at that. "You know it's weird to realize how much stuff I seem to have here, didn't even realize until today... Do you want... to stay? I'm almost done, just this last book box left and I don't mind company."
no subject
"Yeah!" she agreed, cheering right up. She strolled in and cast her gaze around. "Boy, this takes me back, you know? Different stuff, but it's gotta be nice to have room to sprawl out. Beacon's dorms were on the cozy side."
She grinned, trying not to get too nosy, but surely there was no harm in stooping to read some of the spines on Blake's massive book collection.
