[A twitchy nose with a fine set of full whiskers comes into view, along with a pair of prominent front teeth. Tilo's large, black eyes shine as he blinks a few times quickly. A small paw comes up to adjust the hood over his head and his nose and whiskers twitch again.

When he speaks his voice is rather high pitched but not grating or squeaky, one might even find it pleasant.]

Why does everyone here wear pants? How can you tell someone's station if everyone walks around in trousers all the time?

[Sabo isn't even going to comment on the appearance of this little guy, since it's really not that strange to him. What he's asked is strange, though, and he has to think for a second before he can answer.]

Well, it's really not acceptable to walk around without pants in public.

[These tall people are so odd. Why wouldn't it be acceptable? What are they hiding?!

Tilo scrunches his pink nose and blinks a few times ago.]

[He chuckles a little.]

It's indecent, for one thing.

Also, wearing a full set of clothing can be an interesting way to express yourself!

[The first comment has his head tilting in confusion, though the second gets an enthusiastic nod. This causes the bell at the end of his long toque to bounce and jingle.]

Hats are very expressive, yes! All mice agree. Do you wear any hats?

[Sabo takes no time at all to grab his hat and put it on. He points at it and smiles.]

I wear this one! Had a very similar one when I was a child. It's very special to me, and I like the way it looks.

[His brow lifts in surprise, black eyes shining happily.]

That is a very fine hat! Does it represent anything?

My style, and I guess it represents the time I spent with my brothers!

Well, some of us wear skirts and dresses, so not everyone wears pants?

But often walking around in less than that is pretty embarrassing, and unless you're in a summer heat wave it can get cold too.

I don't see how it could be embarrassing. But, this is why I ask. It's interesting to know!

Does it often get cold here?

[He looks down at himself, both small front paws curling in near his chest]

I'm not embarrassed.

You've got fur, so naturally you're better protected against chill.

And it's less embarrassing.

Most of our hair only grows in a few spots.

Gets cold closer to winter, Everglade is slightly chillier due to the lack of sun most days.

[Oh yes indeed he has noticed the great lack of hair on these giants. Frogs can get quite large and they are entirely hairless, but these things have so much hair on their head! Fascinating!]

Winter make for good months to bundle up inside with the family, here, or home, or anywhere, I imagine.

It’s been a while since last winter though! I might have outgrown some of my old stuff.

[A thought occurs to Tilo and his already large, round eyes get even larger and rounder.]

It must takes a thousand lengths of cloth to cover your kind...

[ It takes Konoka a moment to realize that he's much, much smaller than she is. Size descrepancy is a real thing now!

Oh! Well, I assure you, it doesn't take that much effort to get enough cloth, despite how it looks from your end.

[Tilo gives a friendly, mousy smile. He's teasing her a little bit.]

One sheep makes cloth for a thousand mice!

[ It was cool learning about other cultures. There was a question that formed though... ]

How do you guys shave the sheep though?

[Ted's smile is very wide at the mere sight of the newcomer. Especially his (he guesses a male) dress.]

For modesty's sake. As this world is very motley, no caste or importance whatever can be discerned from dress. Action, romantically, will prove the most telling sign.

Speaking of dress, yours is very fine. What station did that signify for you, back there? And what's your name? Hah, might as well say the significance of that too, please.

[The compliment gets a mousy grin, and Tilo's ears twitch happily. One little paw pats the fabric of his hood.]

I am Tilo. This is the Kolba of a Minstrel. No mouse worth his weight in grain is seen without his Kolba on.

Ahaheh, then I'll endeavor not to see you out of it. "Tilo"...hold on.

[As he wasn't told, Ted repairs to a book he retrieved from somewhere to find out. By now he's got the awkward dexterity of flipping pages and holding the phone simultaneously.]

"A low German diminutive for...people!" Huh! You must be a very patriotic minstrel-mouse indeed.

Ah! Pardon; mine's Ted. And now I can see another reason for our bottom-wear; most of us haven't the gift of fur. But we've size enough to make up for it, which helps with locomotion. Are you making out all right with that? Able to get around quick enough?

[What a considerate giant! Although it's not well seen in the video, Tilo's long tail gives a content wiggle at the tip. He gives a shrug and his whiskers flatten against his muzzle]

Very thoughtful of you, Mr. Ted. It has been difficult. But, I am getting my exercise in certainly.

[He laughs with good nature]

Eheh, afraid you'll have to wander more than usual, eh? Should it ever become too difficult, you're welcome to hitch a ride with me if your paws tire. You need only call.

Oh! And if you'd like to hear or play with other minstrels, I know a few of those too. I'd love to hear you perform some time.

[Again he thinks, what a kindly giant! He has to admit there is some thrilling dangerous allure to riding around on a giant's shoulder. He laughs nervously.]

I will keep it in mind. And, I am happy to perform a tune anytime you like, Mr. Ted, in thanks for your kindness.

[He's very flattered. Flat...flattened...uh oh! He may have forgotten to tell something.]

When we meet face to face, I'll employ you for that express purpose. Ah! And, er, have you ever been to a contemporary city? By the world's standards, I mean. In addition to foot-traffic, pay special attention to the vehicular. Have you seen cars yet? Those large, metal carriages that go swiftly by? Be careful when crossing the street, lest you meet your end by them. Just mimic what the other pedestrians do, and you ought to make out all right.

[ Oh... dear... oh this cute thing... oh my gosh. ]

[A duck... yikes. Mice do not, by and large, like any kind of bird. They are big and unpredictable, and often like to eat mice-kind. Ducks don't eat mice (do they?) but they are dangerous all the same.]

Ohh. Feathers and fur, I hear they make up for the trousers your furless kind lack. Is your duck friend here?

I mean.. I don't want to ask the obvious here but I'm going to have to ask the obvious-- do you know someone's station by their ... uh ...

[What in the skappbeetle's butt is this question about? Tilo squints, then blinks quickly a few times. He worries his little paws together.]

Are you asking if you can tell by their worldly possessions? Yes, yes I suppose that too. Usually a peasant has little, and no trousers to speak of. A king has many goods and fine silk pantaloons.

So, the more clothes someone has the more ... uh .. rich they are?

A dress then, I take it? I assume you to be a doe?

A doe is a female deer, isn't it? But I am not a deer. I'm human.

[There were things she at least did know. That was one of them.]

[Human, right. There were no humans where he came from! Of course not all people from his world called their females 'does' and their males 'bucks' but mice did, and he always reverted to that line of thinking.]

Female mice are called does. Forgive me.

What do humans call their women-folk?

Oh, are they? That I didn't know.

I guess they call females, what I just said. Woman, girl are another two depending on age I believe.

[Tilo wonders at the fact she doesn't seem altogether certain. Surely a giant would know what giants call their females? At any rate, woman and girl work fine enough.]

Would you be a woman, or a girl, miss?

I guess a woman since I am 18... I guess that would make me an adult.

[She paused for a bit before nodding.]

They usually wear trousers for the sake of modesty. Unless you wear either a skirt or a dress.

Only those of high social status normally wore any kind of trouser or pantaloons, where I'm from. Most of us have fur, but some do not, such as the Frogs of Vaelia.

[His whiskers give a twitch and he cocks his head to one side.]

I am learning that humans are very different from mice!

Vaelia? I never heard of such a place. I would love to hear more about it.

[She couldn't help but to smile even more at his movements.]

Beorcs are quite different. Though I must say that I am a Heron and not a Beorc.

But people wear pants because it keeps them nice and warm...or cool. Either or~

Their ranking in society, be they peasant or king. A king wears the most fancy sort of pantaloon!

Ooooh okay..uh, now..correct me if I'm wrong;

a King is a leader among humans, yes? Ooh they must have very fancy pants..I never knew.

Because humans don't have fur to keep them warm as you do.
