If you have a moment, I wish to speak with you. My name is Ozpin, and in my world, I am Headmaster of Beacon Academy. The students under my care are trained to hunt monsters, and as their teacher, I feel a certain responsibility for their safety, and as there are some of my students here, I try to keep abreast of potential threats.

Some time ago, I saw a video feed in which a young lady was seen using blue flames to attack civilians. Since then, I've noticed that you share some mannerisms - particularly in your dress - that would seem to indicate that you are from the same world.

If I am mistaken, I apologize, however, should you have any information about the potential guardian of Fayren calling herself Azula, I would like to hear it. I bear neither her nor you ill will. I simply wish to remain informed should the worst possible scenario come to be.

Princess Azula was unaware of the reality of her situation when she threatened the lives of those at the Regency, and handled it like she would've had she found herself inexplicably in enemy territory back home. Asserting dominance, demanding and expecting those demands to be followed, making someone fear you until they do what you want them to... It's easier to throw stones at rhino than it is to ask it to leave. [ a shrug. ] There's simply no point in being nice about it, especially when they're already scared of you and aren't likely to take you seriously even if you did ask politely.

She apologized to those people and the damage was repaired.

First, allow me to introduce myself. I am Professor Ozpin, Headmaster of Beacon Academy. I train my students to fight monsters, essentially.

The first thing I would like to ask is what your relationship to her is.

Understandable. Next, I am curious as to how this... firebending was it? How that works.

You're born with it. Either you're a bender or you're not. There is no trick to gaining the ability to bend an element. You have to have it already. And if you do... It's part instinct, part training. How good you are at it varies from person to person. My sister and I are both master firebenders.

I suspected as much. Do not misunderstand me, I have no intention of trying to control you or your sister, or attempt to move against either of you. My interest is simply out of concern for the safety of my students.

I didn't presume you were trying to. Weiss Schnee speaks very highly of you, and I trust her judgement. She wouldn't have placed her faith in you if you weren't deserving of it.

[ weiss holding the professor in such high regards was, honestly, one of the reasons zuko was willing to share as much as he was. if weiss trusted him, then zuko could, too. (he was just bad at trusting people, at letting anyone in.) ]

Our bending is fueled by the sun. It's... It's part of us, tied in to everything. Your bending can flare up when you're sad or angry, and you bend as naturally as a non-bender eats, sleeps, and breathes. But I assure you, we both have excellent control. We've both had tutors, private firebending instructors. We know what we're doing and how to be safe while doing it. A firebender's flame doesn't burn unless you let it.

[Ozpin will mentally file away that connection to the sun. Presumably that would mean operating at night would give them the advantage. Now to address the elephant in the room, with as much tact as possible.]

It is not your skill or level of skill that concerns me. Your sister has shown herself to have something of a temper, but given the circumstances she found herself thrust into, I can hardly blame her for reacting in such a way as to establish dominance.

However, that does establish a precedent that I do not wish my students to be caught on the wrong side of. If you could provide some insight as to how we can go about avoiding angering her, I would be greatly appreciative.

[ an advantage over azula, at least. zuko told weiss that he learned how to bend differently from the dragons, how to draw his power from within, but he withheld that information from ozpin. the sun warriors swore him to secrecy. he shouldn't have even told weiss, but he'd been driven by a very teenage desire to impress her when she asked about dragons.

Don't question her lineage, her status. I can get away with doing that, but I'm family. If anyone else were to remind her that she's the princess of nothing here, she wouldn't take too kindly to it. She was raised to be proud, to hold herself in higher regards than the rest of the world. She fully believes that she's superior. It's best not to challenge that superiority complex.

[He makes a couple mental notes. Superiority complexes are never healthy for a community like this. More and more it seemed like she was a powder keg just waiting to blow.]

[ superiority complexes aren't healthy for anything, but that's what the fire nation breeds, especially ozai's section of the royal family. zuko's forever grateful for the hard life he was forced to lead for giving him the power to see past the tip of his nose and not hold himself so high. ]

She's crafty. Very crafty. Don't underestimate her. You might think you're two steps ahead of her, but chances are, she's already ten ahead of you.
