action, around Attleton and Nova City, morning and lunchtime

[ Yay, it's Cassian's birthday! His second since arriving in Genessia, in fact. Except, you know, the birthday boy hates parties and being the center of attention alike and would rather not have one at all, so he will be doing his best to treat this day as just a regular day. It's not that his birthday is a secret, as such, just not something he has any wish to go out of his way to share with people.

He will be going to work as usual in Attleton and can be found on the streets of Nova City late in the morning on the way to and from a meeting with a client.

At noon, he can be found in the Attleton park, sitting on a bench looking solemn and lost in thought while he is feeding crumbs of bread to the ducks. His eyes keep going back to the wedding band on his hand. His life has changed so much since he arrived here. He has changed so much. It makes you dizzy if you let yourself think about it properly. ]

[ There's Cassian, looking annoyed... and very sparkly, with glitter in his hair, his face, his clothes... everywhere. Every time he huffs in annoyance, a cloud of red glitter is stirred up on his desk. So much for keeping it quiet and avoiding any ridiculousness.

Resigned to his fate, he holds up an equally glitter-covered card saying "Happy Birthday" and the remains of an exploded, obviously glitter filled balloon in a package - a little gift from Lucky, not that he knows that yet. ]

Whoever sent this: not funny. Thank you.

birthday party: SoKaCa house in Attleton, evening

[ If he had thought he could get away with having his birthday go unnoticed, Cassian is proven wrong once he returns home. He notices something fishy as soon as he opens the door and finds the house surprisingly quiet, no pets or pokemon greeting him by the door.

He comes to a sudden stop as soon as he walks into the living room, which is decorated with party streamers and balloons, a large birthday cake on the table. The terrace door is open, letting guests and pokemon wander outside to enjoy the gardens that are lush and still blooming with fairy magic.

The party has been quietly arranged by Sonico, careful to keep Cassian none the wiser while she invited guests and planned it. She is the welcoming hostess tonight, while Cassian himself looks a little bit embarrassed but quietly pleased and does his best to socialize. ]

OOC: Sonico has been inviting Cassian's friends, so if you have CR with him or are just curious about that party going on in Attleton, feel free to assume you got an invitation.

[Guess what heathen went through public records and sent him an anonymous human skull set to ooze glitter and glitter slime when moved. It her. Purple and gold of course.]

Enjoying it?~ [So vague on purpose.]

[Cassian's got a glitter-dusted Fennekin pawing at his leg to get his attention, then when she's sure she's got it, she heads for the door, as if she knows who's behind the glitter.

Once she gets outside, she heads straight for a tree, where a voice can be heard.]

Aravis whyyyyyyyy?

[And Lucky peers out from behind the tree, giving Cassian a sheepish grin.]

[Kay is so thankfully for the party Sonico organized, he's been at a bit of a loss about what to do this year. But even if the party involved and excessive amount of unnecessary glitter that was getting into Kay's joints, it's very nice and he's glad they can celebrate it all as a family.

He walks over Cassian, holding a flat box in one hand and their cat Fest in the other. Fest, only just white, is covered in head to toe in shiny glitter -thankfully it's bio eco friendly glitter- and shines far more than she used to do.]

Ey, birthday boy. I got you a present.

[Inside, there's a simple tie. That's it. The most average and boring looking tie, that Kay knows Cassian would never use in a million years. But if he grabs the tie, he will notice that under it there's a picture of the Rogue One team, that Kay has requested Styxx.]

[Mavis got an invitation and, of course, she made a point to come. She even brought a present, though she's hiding it in a bag right now. She will wait until she finds the 'birthday boy' to give it to him.

Until then, she looks around to see if there are people she recognizes. And whether she knows you or not, she has a smile for everyone.

And she's still not wearing shoes.]

[ Ayame got the invitation and decided to spend the next few hours wandering Nova City in search for a gift, even while she was on duty as Deputy Guardian. It took a lot of thought before she finally sees something that would be different than the suggestions she saw on the network or from the magazines she reads. "Gifts ideas for men"; the lists she saw were predictable, so even if this gift was a little expensive, she wanted to give Cassian something great.

But that gift won't show itself just yet. Ayame makes an entrance by walking through a portal, dressed in her usual stylish casual clothes now that she's off duty. Behind her is her big wolfdog Himiko, and her two cats Hibiki and Sisko. She figured they could use some socializing ]

Don't run off, alright?

[ Ayame calls to her pets, who all seem to have ignored her commands. Himiko and Hibiki are excited, whereas the munchkin cat Sisko seem to listen more. Ayame is off to where she could get a drink, because of course she will. To the first person she sees, she simply smiles and nods at them in greeting ]

Good afternoon, how are you today?

[ It's a skull, Lydia. That's not exactly a subtle present, glitter or smile or not. ]

No.

[ Have a glare. ]

[ Still looking very glittery himself, Cassian crosses his glitter-covered hands over his glitter-covered chest and glares. There's glitter around his eyes, too ~~he looks like he dabbled in 80s glam rock~~. ]

If you're going to send anonymous glitter bombs, next time make sure your pokemon doesn't lead me right back to you.

[...oh...my...]

[To her credit, Mai managed to keep a (mostly) straight face as she turned her communicator screen on, allowing only the slightest hints of an amused smile through. And a touch of sympathy at the degree of damage.]

I'm sure whoever it was meant little harm.

[The moment she saw all that glitter, she knew a certain someone got glitter bombed and she really wanted to congratulate the person that did it. As it was, Rip might.. just be laughing her ass off and might have just accidentally turned her phone on.

So pardon all the laughter, Rip finds this hilarious.]

But everyone loves glitter! [#1 suspect right here. If it was with a rubber duck instead of a birthday, Marco himself would believe he did it in his sleep.]

[ If there were rubber ducks involved, Cassian would already have found his perp. As it is, Marco is indeed a very suspicious suspect. ]

No. [ He wipes some glitter from his face, only managing to smear it more evenly over his face. ] I don't love it. As you certainly know.

[ He's scowling. A scowling glittery man, who sadly doesn't look very scary right now. ]

I'm so glad at least one of us is having fun.

I'm sure whoever did this thought it would be hilarious... [ He scowls at the sea of glitter he is bathed in it. ] I disagree. Strongly. And I intend to tell them so, equally strongly.

Hey... Let's see what you got me, hm?

[ Even throughout all his glitter woes, Cassian is smiling gently when Kay approaches him with his present. He runs his fingers over his hip before taking the present from him, opening it - carefully, since you never know if Kay's presents are explosive.

He frowns at the tie, taking that one very carefully out of the box since he's now absolutely sure there's something else to it... And then freezes at the sight of the picture. Their team. ]

Operation Fracture... [ His voice is a mere whisper. Jyn, Bodhi, Chirrut and Baze... ] It's been so long. [ Theirs are faces he hasn't seen in such a long time. They had been here at some point or other, all except Chirrut, but none of them had been able to stay.
And when they had been here, he had been too caught up in keeping himself busy and keeping himself from thinking to appreciate the second chance. One of his many regrets... He runs his fingertips over their faces. ] They... [ He falls silent, lips pressed together, and leans slightly into Kay. ]

[ Cassian chuckles a little when he catches sight of Ayame arriving with her dog and cats - much like her, he has no doubt the pets will enjoy the chance to socialize. And it's nice that their friends know them well enough, and feel at home enough here, to bring their pets along. ]

Ah, well... Still feeling a little surprised. Sonico did catch me by surprise with the party. [ He gives a sheepish little smile. ] I didn't think she could be sneakier I am. Just goes to show me, huh? [ Not that he's upset. ] I always keep saying I hate surprises but this is a nice one.

Mavis.

[ He is grinning slightly as he approaches her, eyes flickering down to her bare feet before he shakes his head and decides it would probably be rude to ask. ]

I'm glad that you could come. Looks like we're making progress in meeting without some crisis or other going on.

[Give her a moment. Rip may need a few before she's able to speak without laughing harder at the sight of him scowling while full of glitter.]

Too... hilarious! Good luck getting glitter out of your hair. It takes forever.

[That seemed fair.]

Just so long as you ensure the punishment fits the crime.

She learned from the best.

[ She teases, implying they've been influencing Sonico in how to be sneaky. Ayame gestures toward the party grounds, taking the first step to stroll toward it ]

Then that makes me feel better for what I'm about to do. Saying that takes away the surprise, but I'll keep what it is a mystery.

[ She gives a knowing smile, clearly Sonico's not the only one who's been learning from the best, as Ayame is learning in how to be more playful from the likes of Gale and Dante. Although she's always been like this for sometime now, it just goes to show how much she trusts Cassian and how comfortable she's grown around his presence ]

Thank you, Rip. [ This is said between gritted teeth. Oh, how he hates this. ]

Is there anything else you'd like to contribute?

Don't worry, I'm not going to overreact, or react with actual violence. It's just glitter at the end of the day. But they do deserve a lesson.

[ He chuckles softly, his eyes soft, body language relaxing a little more, unknowingly mirroring Ayame's comfort in his company. He does take note of it, though, and finds himself quietly content with it. He may not be good at being playful but he can value that Ayame, a soldier like himself, is able to relax with him. All the more so after she gave him a chance to see where she had lived and worked. ]

Well then I'll just have to try and guess, hm? [ He gives her a little friendly nudge with his elbow. ] Or would that be taking away from the mystery, too?

Hmm, guessing it can be fun.

[ She shrugs, putting her hands behind her back as she thinks of a first clue ]

It has a remote control.

[ He freezes, wide-eyed, face caught somewhere between alarm and excitement. ]

Is it a bomb?

Do you mind if I ask what exactly it is you're planning to do?

[Mostly for curiosity's sake. Public declaration of revenge aside, Cassian seemed one of the more rational individuals in the city. She trusted he would minimize the amount of innocent casualties.]

Not-

[ That actually surprised Ayame enough to cause her to pause. Why would- But she recovers immediately anyway. ]

Not literally a bomb, but the youths of this world have a phrase to call some thing "the bomb" to describe something spectacular. Which I believe to be appropriate for this gift.

[ Ayame shows pride in her choice of gift that she puts her hands on her hips and puffs up her chest a little as they continue to stroll ]

Alright. Second clue: it is a luxury item.

I don't know yet. That depends on who claims responsibility, for the most part.

[ And he's also not the best at non-lethal revenge so... Might take some thought. ]

[ He tries to look innocent when Ayame looks flabbergasted - half tempted to defend himself with the fact that Kay and him gift another explosives all the time. Then he thinks better of it. That might make it worse.

He chuckles a little, hands raised up in surrender. He's distracted when Bahryn, his Pachirisu, scampers up his leg. Cassian cradles the squirrel-like pokemon against his chest while his attention returns to Ayame. ]

If it's a luxury item, I'm afraid I'm out. I wouldn't be able to guess that. Unless you give me another hint, maybe?

Alright, but it's inside the house already.

[ Ayame gestures to the door towards the house, changing direction to walk toward there while inviting Cassian to follow ]

For the third and final hint, moments before the great reveal... Here it is: it's large.

[ Ayame lets herself in, shrugging and smiling in her usual assured manner whenever she's planning a surprise. ]

And it is in the living room. For now, if you want to move it elsewhere, let me know.

A fancy new touch? A television set? A massage armchair?

[ He's just firing off wild suggestions now. Luxury items, what would be large and luxurious and go into the living room. ]

A giant cat climbing post?

[ He's laughing a little at himself and his own cluelessness, body posture relaxed as he walks with Ayame. ]

Am I allowed to go and look yet?

Huh... Yes, you are allowed. Because it's not physically there yet but it will be in. Count to three.

[ Despite just throwing out random item names while they walk... Cassian actually got it right. She laughs, nodding with a hint of both surprise and pride as they reach the living room. It's definitely large and fit for the use of many people and pets, she thought. Kinda makes her miss her old house, really.

But as they both wait for three seconds to pass, a portal appears out of thin air inside the living room, revealing the present to be a massage chair after all. The reclining kind that mimics "zero-gravity" supposedly. ]

There we go. I didn't simply pick a random one either. It's among the best that I've seen. Happy birthday, Cassian.

Wait... I got it right...?

[ He looks even more gobsmacked by the good luck with his wild guess than by the very fancy massage armchair itself. Luxurious, indeed, he's never seen anything like that outside of posh furniture stores in Attleton.

He turns to Ayame again, chuckling a little, running a hand through his hair. ]

Thank you, Ayame. That's unexpected... and a very useful gift. [ At this, he looks more than a little amused. A treat, but still a useful gift. Ayame gets him. ]

[ Kay hasn't been any luck avoiding the glitter, I sticks to random places of his frame, in small vents and grills, but he's given up on trying to get rid of it. He's silently amused at Cassian's confusion when he sees the tie, it only makes the man's reaction better when he finally sees the picture. ]

It's nowhere like the real thing. Kay wraps an arm around Cassian back, holding hi. I think the artist managed to capture Jyn's serious face just right too.

[ Ayame places a hand on his shoulder, nodding in acknowledgement of his gratitude. ]

I figured it would be useful for how much you tend to push yourself, and it's good since you wouldn't have to be touched by someone else to get the relaxation you need.

[Mavis chuckles.] Or so you like saying. Admittedly, you made it a lot more easier for us by not being a candidate for the last Guardian election. [She pouts slightly.] Somehow, I think I should be mad at you for that... But I'm glad you and Kay can have more time together.

And I'm here on a mission. [She holds a square box to him. There's a bright blue ribbon around it.] Happy Birthday, Cas! I hope you like it.

[Inside the box are two things: a cookbook for Cassian to make romantic yet easy dinners for him and Kay - whenever Kay has a human body at least - and a brown scarf with a black Fairy Tail's emblem embroidered on it.]

You're very velcome Cassian~.

[She just keeps giggling at the sight of him.]

Maybe~. At least you only got one glitter bomb und not say... ten or twenty.

[ He grimaces in distaste, looking down at himself. ]

Oh yes, I'm so grateful for that. I will make sure to share my gratitude with the person responsible for that one glitter bomb, how about that?

[snickers.]

If zhat's vat you vant~.

[ He scowls, still trying to wipe off glitter. ]

Yes, yes, that is exactly what I want. And what I'm going to get.

[ He accepts the presents, looking a little startled by them even though presents shouldn't startle him any longer after several celebrations in Genessia. ]

[ He opens the box, taking out the presents and smiling a little as he realizes the thought behind the Date Night In cookbook. The scarf has him blinking at it, this one takes a longer moment for the significance to sink in. When it does, he wraps it around his neck and makes an awkward, aborted half-movement towards hugging Mavis. His eyes are soft as he meets his friend's eyes. ]

Does that mean I'll always be welcome with Fairy Tail when I'm wearing it?

It will be, believe me. It's a very thoughtful gift, thank you.

[ And he's a little awkward in figuring out how to show his proper gratitude. Fortunately, the white cat coming over to sniff at the new addition to their living room proves a distraction. ]

I'm thinking that new armchair might even lead to a truce between Fest and me.

[She looks genuinely happy as he puts the scarf on. And when he leans down to attempt to hug her - because she's way shorter than him - she gets on tiptoe and finishes the job. She even lays a soft kiss on his cheek.

Sometimes Mavis wonder about Cas' world. He must not have gotten much hugs or displays of affection while he was there. Once she even dreamt she was travelling with him in his 'spaceship', exploring.

She smiles brightly, glad he understood the significance of the scarf.]

Yes. Always. Even if, for some reason, I'm not there to vouch for you. [Because she's not in Genessia anymore, or something.]

So, how old are you today?

28 years old. [ He smiles wryly, his fingers curling around the edges of the scarf. ] I sure feel older... Especially here in this place.

[ He shrugs a little, eyes going distant. ]

Back home everyone I knew had lived lives similar to mine, but here there are so many pendant bearers who retained a certain... youth, or innocence, despite the hardships of their lives. And there are all these Attletonies who have never seen half as much as I have despite being twice as old.

[Rip just keeps snickering his attempts and doesn't pity him in the slightest.]

[ Ayame nods, accepting his thanks warmly even if he was a bit awkward. Ayame can relate; being an awkward turtle herself. Her attention was caught by the sight of white fluff coming over to bless the massage chair with its presence ]

Ah, it's Fest. I see they're just as adorable as I left them.

[ Ayame squats down, reaching a hand at Fest to invite the cat towards her. By now, she's got some experience with cats to be comfortable around them ]

Speaking of stresses, I have been considering to go back in the world of business. Although I am sad to say it wouldn't be fashion related.

[ She says with a chuckle. Fashion remains her passion, although that isn't really the most lucrative or helpful ]

[Mavis chuckles softly at that.] Quite the opposite of me, then. [This place was a fresh new start, and more often than not, it made her feel younger than she actually was.]

True. [She nods.] But in the end, age only matters when it comes to putting candles on the cake, doesn't it? [A wink.]

Speaking of cake... [She looks around, curiously. Where's the birthday cake?]
