September Catchall
Who: Lea and anyone! (One thread semi-closed- see under cut)
When: Any time in September
Where: Various places
What: Job hunting, shopping, patrolling, just generally trying to be a responsible adult
Warnings: Shouldn't be any? Will update if needed.
Job hunting!: Afternoon of Sept 13- (Closed to Torchwood folks)
Rose's automated message had said to 'inquire about jobs at his local branch' so that's what he was here to do. He didn't need a job at the moment. But with David having told them that he wasn't planning on running for Guardian again when this term ended, Lea knew he needed to explore his options, just in case. Though when he thought about it, he'd probably be looking anyway, even if David's announcement hadn't given him something of a deadline; even if he was now doing it for a much better cause, he was still just using variants of the only two marketable skills he'd had when he arrived; fighting and fire magic. He needed to branch out a bit, to learn something new. And he figured that Torchwood might be a good place to do that.
Errands!: Around Genessia City, pick a date
Lea would be the first to admit that with Xion gone, his fridge had gradually began to more and more closely resemble the stereotypical 'bachelor's fridge'. Thus, he aimed to do something about it with a trip to the grocery store. And maybe do a few other errands while he was at it. After all, the coming of fall meant that scarves were coming back into fashion, so maybe he could scope out some clothing shops and see what they had. And he had been meaning to get a library card...
Patrolling: Around Genessia City, pick a date
Whatever his future prospects or lack thereof, for the time being, he still had a job to do. Thus, he could often be found patrolling various areas of the city on the lookout for trouble or people who might need a hand. Sometimes he had his Pokemon with him and sometimes they stayed back at the apartment, but either way, Deputy Guardian Lea was there to help the citizens of Genessia City, as well as any visitors.
Wild Card!: Any other shenanigans you might want, any date
Exactly what it says on the tin.

Errands
It was mostly ingredients to practice making various food for her business, but as she went to grab some flour she thought she could see something out of the corner of her eye.
So turning her head she recognised the hair. "Hey, shopping too I see?"
Re: Errands
"That," he said, "and I had a craving for sushi, and it's cheaper to make it myself- since I know how- than to pay what most restaurants want." He indicated the nori sheets, rice, and other ingredients in his cart.
Re: Errands
her eyes widened slightly at the mention of sushi. "I've never had any of this...sushi. What is it?" She asked curiously.
Re: Errands
"And there's lots of different kinds of sushi," lea said. "Most of them are made from some combination of sticky rice, vegetables, and some kind of fish or seafood, and it usually comes in bite-sized pieces. Some kinds can get really fancy, but your basic sushi roll isn't that hard to make. It's basically a sheet of nori- a kind of flattened-out, edible seaweed- with sticky rice and fish rolled up in it, which then gets cut into sections. I like to spice mine up with some hot peppers and wasabi dipping sauce though."
Re: Errands
It was a moment before she turned her head slightly. "I might try this sushi sometime then. Just for trying something new at least."
Re: Errands
"It's pretty good stuff," he said. "Just be careful when buying the fish; in a lot of kinds of sushi, the fish isn't cooked, so you want to make sure what you're getting can be eaten that way without potentially making you sick. If you know a good fishmonger, they should be able to give you some tips on how to pick out sushi-grade fish."
Re: Errands
"But I will make sure of that. Though does that mean it could last for a while for you at least?"
Re: Errands
Re: Errands
"But what other foods do you like?"
Re: Errands
"As for what else I like, hmmm... lots of different spicy things, like chili; I wouldn't recommend you ever eating the chili I make since it's really too hot for most anyone but me. There was also a kind of spicy noodle soup my mom used to make a lot when I was a kid, since she knew it was the best way to get me to eat my vegetables. And weirdly enough, I also like ice cream, especially sea salt ice cream."
Re: Errands
She smiled happily as she said that, she at least knew how to bake those. They were always fun. But soon she found herself pausing. "How does one put sea salt in ice cream?"
Re: Errands
At the question of how they got sea salt into ice cream though, Lea just shrugged. "I dunno, probably the same way they get other flavors into ice cream; mix it in while it's still liquid. Though with sea salt they'd have to mix it really well to make sure it dissolved; I don't think anyone wants to bite into a chunk of salt in their ice cream bar."
Re: Errands
But soon she shook that thought from her mind, focusing on the conversation of how one would get sea salt into ice cream.
"Maybe I could find a book that might know for sure. if I find one I can let you know then."
Re: Errands
Re: Errands
Re: Errands
"I do know they make little ice cream makers for people to use at home though," he said. "They only make about a gallon or so at a time, but it might pay you to get one anyway. That way you could try out new flavors and formulas without wasting a whole big load of food if it didn't turn out quite right."
Torchwood

Re: Torchwood
Once the cup was poured and she offered the pot Lea's direction, she leaned against the wall again, cradling the cup close to her mouth like she couldn't wait for it to cool. "Occupational hazard, yeah? Trauma centers and twenty-four hour plus shifts. How've you been?"
Re: Torchwood
"I've been alright," he said. "Mostly just came around here because Rose's message said to ask about jobs here. David let us know that he won't be running for Guardian again after his current term is up, so I figured it was probably a good idea to start exploring my options, you know?"
Re: Torchwood
For Martha, it was difficult to imagine not knowing what work she'd do. She'd wanted to be a doctor since she was a child and saw an X-ray of her broken arm.
Re: Torchwood
"And yeah, that's kind of the question," he said. "When I got here, my only real marketable skills were fighting and burning things, which is how I ended up working as a Deputy Guardian. I've since reluctantly learned the fine art of paperwork, but I'm still mostly combat oriented. I kinda want to get away from that though, if I can. Maybe learn something new, expand my horizons a bit. So as far as Torchwood goes, it'd really depend on what kind of help you guys needed; I might need a crash course on a few things but I'm a fast learner when I want to be."
Re: Torchwood
As for Lea... "The world's full of wonders. And if anyone can show them to you, that'd be the Doctors and Torchwood." She flashed him a bright but tired grin. "Have you thought about taking some classes? I admit, I'm a nerd for it, but it's never wasted time and it's a good way to get a sense of a lot of things in a short time."

Re: Torchwood
Re: Torchwood
"I do remember my dad teaching me about what he did, though, back when I was a kid," he said, thinking back fondly. "He made and sold accessories- essentially jewelry with magical enhancements. He showed me how he'd melt things like metal and glass and then combine them with bits of magic shards to get the effect he wanted." He smirked a bit. "Though I was really only into it when he'd let me melt bits of glass and stuff myself. I had a thing for fire even then, apparently."
Re: Torchwood
About half a cup down, Martha reached for the pot again and refreshed her cup. She was starting to feel less knackered at least.
"I don't know much about magic, though. What can you do besides fire?"
Re: Torchwood
"As for what I can do besides fire," he said, "magically speaking, nothing; magic like mine sort of makes someone a one-trick pony. But as a trade off, I can do pretty much whatever I want with fire without having to learn a bunch of different spells and things, and I can't be hurt by fire either. In fact, hitting me with certain kinds of fire magic will actually heal me, though that has a lot more to do with absorbing the same sort of magical energy than it does the actual fire. The same reasoning applies to why water elemental magic hits me extra hard, but ordinary water just gets me wet."
Re: Torchwood
"Have you ever thought of being a firefighter? Or since you have political experience now, like a fire chief?"
Re: Torchwood
He looked genuinely interested at the firefighting idea though. "I guess I do have 'political experience' now, don't I?", he said. "Never really thought of being a Deputy Guardian that way before, which probably says a lot about David as a Guardian. But the firefighting idea could definitely be a workable option. I've never really tried to control fire I didn't have a hand in creating, so I don't know how well that would work, but at the very least, I'd need a lot less equipment than most."
Re: Torchwood
She gave the coffee pot a longing look but nodded at Lea's suggestion. "Come on, then. Let's see what you can do, yeah?"
Want to fade out when they head outside, or keep going? :3
"Ooh, that sounds like a challenge," he said as he headed for the door, though he was smiling when he did. "I'll be sure and give you a good show, don't worry."
Let's fade out here. <3
